Koh Rong

We had the worst experience in Pura Vita. 
I’m easy going and never have issues while traveling. 
I asked to see the room and the receptionist would not allow till checkin time even tho there were plenty of rooms empty to see. I then got quoted a way higher price than shown online and would not match the price or show me which room I would be getting if I booked online. The staff was rude and seemed completely disinterested in hosting us. 
I left and tried to find other accommodations  but unfortunately the hostel near by was already booked out so needed up coming back to Pura Vita. 
The room was very run down, walls have mould, and the fan was rusty. 
We paid extra for a “sea view room” but it had the bed facing the wall and not the window where you can look at the view (no point in paying for cottage on a beach if you can’t enjoy the view). 
The power kept going out which made air conditioning constantly turned off. This seemed like an issue specifically with Pura Vita and not the hotels near by. 
Wi-Fi did not work at all at the are with the cottages, and only by the reception which made it really annoying. 
After checking out we asked if we could leave our luggage so we can go hangout at different side of the island without our bags and they wouldn’t let us (first time ever in all the many places I’ve stayed).
Overall terrible place to stay I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. 
Hope this message gets read by the owner and sees how his place is ran when he’s not around. His employees clearly don’t care. 

Terrible Experience

So we booked a beach side bungalow way in advance and learned upon arrival that it wasn’t available and finally had to spend our stay on the 4th line, the last one and furthest from the beach but got upgraded with AC room. This makes it lose one point.

The second malus I give here is because you really only pay for the location, there is no extra service whatsoever in the resort, no breakfast, no room cleaning, nothing in the bathroom but 2 towels, and make sure to bring money with you every time you go to the restaurant until they are familiar enough with you to let you go without paying before otherwise they get nervous...

That being said, Koh Rong is an amazing island, far from being as polluted as many would say, or at least it depends on where you go, and 4K beach where the resort is, gets the best of it, and there is everything you may need right next to the resort, lots of delicious small restaurants, shops to buy souvenirs and a marker where you can buy what you daily need.

Awesome location

BEWARE this is not a family friendly tour! We did not stay at this resort but they do offer boat tours that claim to be family friendly. Tour includes snorkeling, fishing, food/drinks and night plankton observation. I booked this tour as a mother/daughter outing with my 13 year old. We never made it past the first stop. After pick up at the pier we were taken with mostly twenty somethings to a nearby island. After pulling up to a parking lot of boats we were given gear and jumped into the middle of all the boats for snorkeling time. With little to see we went back onto the boat where music was blasting, shots of whiskey and a joint were being passed around. Our operators were also taking part in the fun. Lots of "now this is a party" yelling and let's rock the boat ensued.  I don't blame the young adults on the boat for wanting to have a good time but it was not the place for my young daughter. We asked and were taken back to the pier. Perhaps Pura Vita could offer two types of outings....booze cruise and a real snorkeling adventure for families. Mixing the two was unfair to everyone.

Snorkeling Tour

We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks. If you are looking for luxury, give it a miss. Be aware that there is no Air-conditioning and no hot water. The rooms are comfortable enough and relatively clean. The staff were delightful and friendly for about the first week then we felt like their interest in providing good service waned as they became more familiar with us. The owner of the resort is a lovely lady and always happy to help although I was very sad when, after a serious complaint regarding a cleanliness issue, we never heard a word from her again.... This ultimately spoiled what would have been a great review despite lack of AC and hot water.

Noise at night is loud until around 1am from the neighboring Miami Beach Resort...

DELIGHTFULLY AVERAGE

Lots of misinoformation about this island online.  There is a little convenience store, and the lodging at Pura Vita is much less primative than I had expected.  Very comfortable, good airconditioning, good food and drink. Beach/water are beautiful. Not a ton, ton to do here for families.  One or two night stay at max, but it is fun to get out and see what these islands are all about.  I think single 20 somethings could very happiliy spend a week or more here.

Where to begin!
When we arrived they were doing cobstruction work on the bar and eating area, and we got told everything including reception closes at 9pm!!
We got taken to a room that was dirty and ha a whole in the ceiling after complaining they moved us to another one which was identical minus the ceiling hole!
After 3 days and asking for our room to be cleaned we returned after a day excursion to find the room a mess and dirty bed linen and towels. still on the floor so at 9pm st night I was sweeping my own floor and making my own bed!!
Clothes went missing when we used the laundry 
No body cares if you so anything they take forever to answer you an that’s if they can be bothered to speak English!! 
Land top it off it’s a 30mib walk into town!!!!

Terrible

The arrival at the pier of long set beach looks spectacular with fine sand beach and turquoise water. A closer look reveals however trash everywhere. The staff is not overly ambitious and the facilities... rustic. My room had only a bed as furniture, cold water shower and no A/C but a fan. 
The food won’t kill you, maybe that’s already a plus. 

Overall the island is awesome and the resort has potential. For now I would recommend to look for another place at long set beach or coconut beach. 

Nice location, but not so much the facilities 

I was not a fan of Koh Rong in general. Really didn’t like the club/bar/trash/sewage vibe of Koh Toch the main ‘village’ (its a few min walk end to end) so we ventured to the bungalows further afield on 7k beach. 
The bungalows are overpriced at $60 with a paltry breakfast. They are falling apart and the staff is inattentive for the most part. The sink leaked on to the floor, the electricity went out for hours at a time, they have no plumbing for the shower - it just sinks into the ground below. There is piles of trash, construction debris, and Plastic behind the last bungalows. The whole island is just tossing their trash and refuse on the other side of the island. They burned a lot of plastic which stunk. 
Also they have lots of staff. I don’t know what they do with their time. We arrived at 2pm to be told there would be no towels until 5pm and they would bring us some. They never did. The next morning we got them from reception. 
The staff spends a long time on the am raking leaves. Natural leaves from the trees - but leaving all the plastic on their beach front. And in the walkway I saw the same empty cigarette packets and water bottles for 3 days, however leaves were raked. I don’t get it. 
We went to breakfast, only one other table of guests already eating. We ordered from the menu choices and just got the egg omelet and toast. 25 minutes, still waiting. I can only assume they were waiting for the chicken to lay the egg. 
Sad they don’t have snorkels or masks to borrow or even rent. We had to walk 20 minutes to a place to rent them and a kayak and see some stuff. 
The MAJOR drawback is the TECHNO that ‘unst unst’ boom boomed from midday until 4am on Friday. It was From the club/‘resort’ next door but it sounded like it was coming from under my bed. And we walked by that resort and NO ONE was dancing, it wasn’t a raging party, about 10 people were at the bar and bonfire - so why annoy 3/4 of all 7k beach?? Then the Chinese resort at the end started their karaoke type music and the battle was ON. Each got louder, and the mishmash of musics was even more annoying. I didn’t sleep until 330am until they stopped. 
Thank god Saturday there was no music. I almost didn’t stay and got a boat off the island. I’m glad I didn’t bc Saturday was much more enjoyable. 
The staff was clueless but somehow busy also. 
The one great thing was I left my airplane neck pillow in my room and 2 of the cleaning girls came running all the way to the end of the pier where I waited for my boat to give it back to me. Now that was nice and great customer service. 

Mixed feelings about this place. Loud techno ruins it. 

Cambodia's south coast is known for its isolated islands and spectacular white sand beaches. Koh Rong is one such island in the Sihanoukville Province of Cambodia. It is easily accessible by a speed ferry from the Ochheuteal pier in Sihanoukville.

We planned to stay at 4K beach of Koh Rong island for 2 nights. The 4K beach is named because of its 4km wonderful long stretch. it is also popularly known as the Long set beach. This beach is less crowded as compared to other beaches in Koh Rong and is famous for sparkling turquoise ocean and tropical jungle wilderness. Additionally, the main tourist party area Koh touch village is at a short walk away approx 30 min from the beach. 

Pura Vita resort situated at the center of the 4K beach met all our requirements including long beachfront, quality service and budget. Buva sea speed ferry that operates from Sihanoukville Pier to Koh Rong also stops at the 4K beach. The resort reception was only about 50-meter walking distance from the ferry drop point (4K Pier).

At the time of our visit, the resort had approx. 30 independent wood cottage in various sizes, which were approx. 4 to 5 meter apart from each other. There were a common dining area and a Thai massage center for relaxation. Also, there was a Mini supermarket to buy daily essential stuff near the resort.

We stayed in a single room cottage, which was at height of 1.5 meters above the ground level. There was a small open sitting area in the cottage. The room had a small bathroom with running hot water. There was an issue with power as it was fluctuating during the night. Also, There were many mosquitoes buzzing around as expected in such an island. To address this, they had provided a Mosquito net in the room, which was essential for peaceful sleep

Service staff at reception and restaurant were good. They helped us to book a ferry to nearby islands. Check-in & check-out was seamless without any hassle.

However, a couple of points to consider before booking this property  - No cleaning service provided during the 2-night stay and there was a hostel nearby which played loud music in the night.

Not luxury but value for money at this price point with privacy, peace at the stunning 4K beach of Koh Rong Island.

Big shout-out for location!

Pura Vita has good points, bad points and one overriding terrible point. Don’t come here if you want tranquility and relaxation. 

In its favour is the location: a lovely beach, relatively free of plastic   flotsam, with an excellent view towards Koh Rong Samloen. Phosphorescence just off the beach if you swim on a moonless night. The cabins, though simple, are pleasant.  Ours was reasonably clean and the bed was comfortable. The helpful reception manager dealt efficiently with our onward travel arrangements. 

Less welcome was the feeble intermittent Wi-fi in the Pura Vita reception area (excellent in the Malibu Hostel, next door) and the variable service in the restaurant/bar (sometimes OK but more often gormless). We quickly learnt to eat main meals elsewhere and were not surprised to find the bar closed before 10pm, despite full occupancy of the accommodation.  Beware mosquitoes too. We had more bites here than anywhere else on the islands, even at breakfast time. 

But the real deal breaker is the very, very loud, thumping music from the Malibu that pervades the whole of Pura Vita. Non-stop Techno / Dance through a massive sound system. It’s audible almost to the far end of the long beach but Pura Vita gets the full impact. On two of our three days here it started in the early evening and continued, full volume, until the early hours, then at slightly lower volume until dawn.  On our third day it finished before 6am, but had been going on since about 2pm the previous afternoon. There was no escape. Closing the doors and windows made no appreciable difference. We might almost have been on the dance floor.  Unless you are an all-night party animal this is not a place to even consider.
