Great place to stay when you're away from home and still miss some homely space. Wonderful staff. Wonderful owner! It's perfect and cheap for someone going to Rio for the first time or out of their country, for that matter. People out there are too helpful and friendly. It took almost no time to get friendly with each one of them. Living in a nice place is one thing, but living with good and lively people around is more important. It adds a little more beauty to your trip! We even had a nice jamming session the night before we left the hostel. Henrique, the owner, is a very cool person and is himself a traveller. So, he is quite much aware with a traveller's spirit. Well, if you're looking for a memorable trip, I'd definitely suggest this place for your stay! 
Also, Rooms and washrooms are neat and clean. Free internet 24/7. Nice and safe neighbourhood. A bar with flags of various countries around the world. 
I'll highly recommend this place, especially, to Indian travellers out there.

I had screwed up and booked a hotel about 3 hours north of Rio, so we ended up staying here, unfortunately due to the cup I guess prices already started to rise. We stayed in their only double room, which I am pretty sure was a converted closet. You walk in the door there is the bed, a cupboard to squeeze your pack, and a bathroom. It's best if you don't both stand up at the same time. It wasn't horrendous, or bad, just kind of tight or cozy. We had also just come from our own cabana so that made it a tougher adjustment. It was close to a lot of things, and the staff were helpful and gave good advice. There was also plenty of places to get drink nearby.

Fun, but tight space

I originally booked 4 nights at the hostel before going to a hotel to finish my trip of 14 days in Rio, but ended up staying 5 nights and cancelling the hotel reservation.

The hostel is in a nice leafy area surrounded by bars, cafes and supermarkets. In fact the hostel has a bar of its own which is frequented by the locals which is a recommendation in its own right.

The hostel is a 5 minute walk away from Flamengo metro station and a 2 minute walk away from the bus stop. Buses take about 5-10 minutes to reach the beach at Copacabana.

The hostel gives excellent views of Sugarloaf, which I walked to from the hostel in a few minutes. 

They have a security guard, gates and intercom system so I always felt safe. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly and the hostel offers free internet 24/7.

As the hostel is not on the Copacabana strip it is also that bit cheaper and ideal for the more discerning traveller. It was nice to be away from Copacabana but within spitting distance.

The staff were very friendly and answered all my questions and gave me invaluable help with planning trips. The highlight of my trip was a visit to the Salguiero samba school which was arranged via the hostel. 

I became friendly with the hostel owner 'Henrique Joriam' who is a real life character. He has travelled widely and was a source of great entertainment. Ask him about Devassa beer.

I had a wonderful time and highly reccomend the hostel.

Marvellous hostel

My friend and I love this place. The location is perfect; it's convenient to go to many places; it's in a safe and nice neighborhood. Rooms are clean and tidy. The layout is unique.

The best part is the owner of the hostel. The guy has traveled to many different places and he is so funny! We drank with him and he let us try the carnival costume. My God we look absolutely gorgeous in that costume!

It's nice to have a good place to stay, and it's even better to have a great person to hang out with.

Great place!

There are pros and cons there. Let's start with the pros. The location of the hostel is perfect, close to everything and easy to get to the subway and buses. The staff is nice as well. Now the cons. The room I stayed in had too many bunk beds (4) for its size, which made the room a little bit claustrophobic, especially because it was scorching hot! I can only imagine when the room is full!!! The location and size of the kitchen are horrible. It's at the back of the bar, so if you want to get there you have to go through everybody who is at the bar, not so good and super small! Breakfast is not served until 08:00 am, if you have to leave early this is not nice. The TV could be a little bit bigger as well. All in all it depends on what you are looking for.
