The rooms were clean and well presented with the views breathtaking. We managed to visit during a random wet period and it made the guest house even more appealing. If it had not been for the rain we might not have sampled the homemade food or Caipairinhas and we would have missed out. The hammock in the downstairs sitting area was a perfect place to relax and listen to the relentless rain outside. The staff were all friendly and willing to help whenever they could. For the price of our stay the service and accomodation were exemplary. There is a hill and set of steep steps to climb before reaching the gate but once you know where it is the climb doesnt seem so daunting. Dont be put off by it. The view and location is well worth it.

Fabulous when Raining in Rio

Spent 2 nights there during World Cup. I guess the prices whre high due to that as well, but no reason for coldish shower, broken window. The staff was friendly and I learned a lot, got great advice about Rio, same from friendly guests, but they staff could not or would not fix anything. It's a 5 star for the hospitality and a very special and unique location up in Rio, but 2-3 stars as to facilities. If you do not care about facilities, and the price is better in modest pressure periods, and you like special atmosphere far from the center, its great. If you want to rest and be close to the center, not so. Thanks for the hospitality guys, anyway, it made for a good memory - especially as we could see the Redeemer lighted in green and yellow as we got up the alley and stairs to the hostel. An adventure for adventurous people, not for everybody.

Great staff and special romantic location but facilities terrible and prices bad

My friends and I were at the FIFA world cup and were pleased to reside at this guest house for three nights. The place is clean and well situated within 5 minutes of the train station and bus stops to Copacabana and other destinations in Rio. Their rates for the rooms was fair considering that it was during the final stages of the world cup. The staff is friendly and helpful and, could communicate in English which was not that common in Brazil. Breakfast was good and freshly prepared. 

The only sad bit was that they do not serve other meals and it is on a very steep hill which could leave one breathless by the time one got from the road to the place. Also, it was a bit far from main centers of attraction.

Nonetheless, we were sad to leave the place as it was fully booked for the remainder of our stay. I recommend it to anyone who likes backpacking as they have shared hostel-like dwellings and self-catering apartments as well. Its not so great if you have kids.

Value for money Guest house

We stayed in the suite, the room was really nice, beautiful fixtures and fittings. Toilet and shower was in the same room as the bedroom which is fine until you need a number 2 and your partner has to leave the room....

Big problem was the lack of AC which was annoying as we searched for AC rooms on booking.com so were surprised when it didn't have it. The heat was unbearable and the fan provided was useless, the fan was meant to be for 240v electricity supply but the rooms only have 110v, they tell you this is normal for Rio but it isn't,  we stayed in 4 hotels in Rio and all the others had 240v supplies. This also meant I couldn't charge my phone as the voltage was too low. It wouldn't even charge my phone when it was on standby (it's now fine in other hotels).

The pool isn't really a pool, more of an outdoor bath that wasn't cleaned during our 3 night stay so had a layer of scum on the surface.

Breakfast was small and you have no choice they just put something on your plate and that's it. 

There are many ridiculous charges such as a charge to phone a taxi, 50% room rate to stay after check out time (even if you're just staying by the "pool" and have left your room. Ridiculous charges for leaving your bags, even for a short period of time. 

All in all, wouldn't recommend and wouldn't stay again.

Unbearably hot!

I checked in this afternoon. Informed that no bed sheets and the kind lady at the reception said that they will leave it at my suite as i was going out for a walk. When i m back at night, around 23h, found that no staff at all at the reception desk, and no bed sheets... I started to check all the hotel (and really feeling bad,as a thief...) and finally found some small individual sheets,too small for my bed but...better than nothing..! Also, i didn t realize about the hotel has no conditioned air.When the weather is 40° really you miss it..but it was my fault as i didn t check it when booking. Also, consider that is not possible to pay with credit card, only with debt card (but many problems with foreign debit cards in Rio, they re not working everywhere...). It s a pity because the suite is really nice, well and originally decorated, but you cannot rule a guesthouse of 200 reais per night and leave guets unattended during night. Regards.

No staff during the night

The guest house is relatively inexpensive for Rio and clean but those are the only positives.

The location is far away from the beaches and activity. The cost you save in staying here will soon be made up with constant bus and taxi rides.

The rooms are unbearably hot. We could not get a good night sleep.

The worse part is the staff though. After the stay I posted a fair review on the booking engine we used. The owner Myle then sent me numerous harassing emails to to take down my opinions. Very unprofessional.
