We had a short break here in October 2022. The B&B is very comfortable, it is a short walk to the centre of Bruges and located in a quiet street. Our hostess (Vanessa) made us very welcome. The breakfast is a continental style with optional eggs. We parked for free on the ring road which is a 10 minute walk to the B&B. I highly recommend. 

Short break in Bruges 

This was a real gem. It is a very small BnB, with only two rooms with distinct themes. One room is the "Chinese Room", the other one the "Rokoko Room". The building is an older (17th - 18th? century) house, with a modern extension in the back that houses the kitchen and a winter-garden-like breakfast area. There is also a terrace in the first floor that can be used, weather permitting. The location of the house is very convenient, about 7 minutes to walk to the Grote Markt and the Belfry. There is also a close-by (not too cheap) private parking option offered. Vanessa, the owner, is very helpful and ccommodating, and has a multitude of recommendations on restaurants and sights to see in Brugge. Definitely recommend!

A really great place and hidden gem

Stayed 2 nights in Spring and we are so happy we chose this over a hotel
Vanessa was warm but never intrusive. We booked both rooms and had the entire second floor to ourselves. Vanessa's family occupied the third floor
The rooms were large. The room facing the road was not as quiet but it is not a busy street and it was quiet after 10 pm ish
As many in tripadvisor has mentioned, the breakfast was unparalleled and not repeated from morning to morning. There was a good variety of high quality food and the best home made sourdough bread I have ever tasted. The dining areas faces a beautiful garden and I wished we had time to linger or read or chat!

The parking area ( for a fee) is about a hundred metres away across the bridge and it is locked and covered. The space allocated is tad tight for bigger cars but the same can be said for all parking spaces around.

Highly recommended!

An experience of Bruges hospitality

We have been to Bruges quite a few times now.  We used to stay somewhere else, but it has since closed or at least doesn't have the sort of rooms we want anymore.  So we were forced to shop around.  In a way I am glad we had to move, because if we hadn't we wouldn't have found this place!

The location is very central, about 5 mins from the square with the clock-tower making it perfect for our short breaks.  The room was clean, well decorated and had everything we needed in it.  There was also a balcony accessible to all guests from the stairwell where we spent all our evenings sitting down watching the house martins flying around whilst reading - something about being able to sit outside and read makes a short break feel so much more like a holiday.

Breakfast was a nice surprise.  It was different every morning, with a lovely selection of cold meats, cheese, bread, pain au chocolat, yoghurt, fruit salad and eggs cooked to order.  The breakfast room is an impressive conservatory at the back of the house, with a lovely garden that feels a bit like an Oasis in a city.

Finally, our host for the stay was wonderful. She made us feel at home straight away and added that extra something to the feel of the place.  Many thanks.

The best B&B and host - Vanessa

First of all, the positives. Vanessa is a great host and goes out of her way to be helpful. And the location is a short walking distance from the main attractions. 

But there are some negatives (perhaps I should say minor problems), which I feel other travelers should be aware of. And of course, these items may or may not be of concern to others. One thing is the shower, toilet, and vanity areas. They are very small and in our room (the Junior Suite), they are located in an enclosure behind the bed. They are also on opposite sides of the enclosure, so if you want to wash your hands, etc. you have to exit one side and walk around the bed to the other. Obviously they are add ons to an old master suite where the toilet, etc. used to be down the hall. The vanity area, which is on the same side as the shower is very crowded with a large basin but no real room to store toiletries.

Some other items of note are that even though there are two old built in armoires in the room, only one is available since the other is used for storage. Also, the hosts don't want you to wear you shoes upstairs and they do provide disposable type open heeled slippers, but they are not very secure - especially when you are going up the steep narrow wooden stairs. And the "canal view" that's listed. Not from our room.

Lastly, be aware that payment is in cash, so be prepared. This is one of the things that's listed in the "fine print" of the booking confirmation, but a lot of the time we don't read that.

I rated our experience here as Very Good based primarily on Vanessa's friendliness and attention to our needs, but to be honest I have to rate the physical plant as Average at best. I am basing that on the fact that we have stayed at a number of B&B's during our years of travel. Again however, it boils down to what is important to you as an individual.

Very nice but some negatives

Situated a few minutes walk from the centre, this 16th century house has been tastefully restored and has two large rooms for B&B accommodation. Breakfast is served in a modern kitchen/diner/conservatory flooded with light. Vanessa, the friendly host, serves a varied selection of local produce and is a great source of information about the city and country.
Cards are not accepted.
If you want a change from the uniformity of a hotel then why not give it a try?
