Pension St. Nikolaus

We were traveling with another family and spent a great two nights at the Pension St. Nikolaus. We arrived in Munich from the US and drove to Golling the first day, so we arrived late and jet-lagged, but were welcomed warmly by the owner, who gave us a great recommendation for a late-night restaurant within walking distance, while checking us in. Lovely and comfortable rooms. Breakfasts were amazing! Cooked to order eggs (mit speck), in additional to the buffet of muesli, pastries, yogurts, cheeses, meats, and home-made breads. The gracious hostess kept making eggs and speck until we were stuffed, and we enjoyed our meal sitting outside in the sun, sipping delicious espresso. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to that part of Austria, and recommend it very highly. Very family friendly, and staff went out of their way to make our children feel welcome. Owner and staff spoke excellent english, and tolerated my poor german. Location was great for visiting Salzburg and Hallstat. For those unable to climb stairs, it should be known that there is no elevator in this establishment, and I'd recommend rooms on the side of the building away from the highway if you're a light sleeper. It wasn't a problem for us, but could be for others, as the windows on the east side do face the highway in the distance, and you do get car and truck noise. We had a lovely stay, and would recommend it to others.
