This was such a delightful stay right near all the waterfront/Salamanca attractions. A vintage 1920s original hotel that was full of character. Family run, full of charm, with so many treasures throughout - all managed by a passionate hostess with so much personality. Our room was extremely clean and tastefully furnished and styled. It was so nice to stay in such a historical part of Hobart with everything in a short walk from the hotel. We strongly recommend our ensuited room!

A charming gem of Hobart

I so enjoy staying at The Astor when I am in Hobart.  It has so much history.  It is like step back in time. Tildy and Neil are very good hosts. The rooms and bathrooms are so clean. You could no find a better location in Hobart for the price.  It is so central to everything.  I would highly recommend staying there.  Contact Tilly and Neil direct for vacancies.


The Astor Hobart

I stay at this Gem every time I go to Hobart. It is a lovely 1920s type hotel but well maintained, comfortable and clean. Some rooms have en-suites but for the others, there are private bathrooms along the hall. The location is convenient and the cost very reasonable. The hosts, Tildy and Neil are most welcoming  and accommodating.  There is a good continental breakfast available and the Sapa Rose (Vietnamese) restaurant nearby has great meals . I r
ecommend booking direct with the hotel.

My favorite accommdation in Hobart

I stayed at the Astor for two weeks while taking a short course in Hobart. It was perfect - the owners are lovely, the location is fantastic and the stay was affordable. The accommodation is fairly basic, which suited my needs, and the building itself is beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful

What a lovely historic hotel run by a delightful couple. Elegantly furnished and spotlessly clean. Beautiful fresh flowers in the hall.  Continental breakfast was perfect with freshly baked bread,lots of cereals and a large bowl of fruit. 
This was a very lucky find and would highly recommend the Astor Hotel when visiting Hobart. Location is good as well.

on the edge of the CBD is only a few minutes walk to the docks or visitor centre where most tours depart and is also close to the main bus terminal and the airport bus drop points. It is not fancy but has everything you really need = friendly owners who live onsite, clean and quiet rooms, spotless bathrooms. price is great value for a cbd located hotel

clean quiet and great value

This delightful 1920s hotel is ideally sited in the CBD. It is basic, with  some rooms having an en suite, others not. But a great breakfast is included and there is some parking. Always friendly staff. It is almost like a time capsule.

Quaint and cosy

I stayed at Astor as I had to adjust my Tasmanian holiday itinerary and spend a night in Hobart. I booked direct with the hotel and was impressed with the prompt communication and friendly charm. 
Walking into the building is like walking back into time! The decor is so well preserved and the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. Warm welcome, comfortable bed, breakfast included, close to tourist sights, a cosy sitting room with lots of books to read and a very cheeky display in reception  from returning guests.   My only disappointment is that I could not stay longer.  Highly recommend  staying here when in Hobart

The Loveliest accommodation in Hobart

I didn't have high expectations, I mean it was cheap and their website was (at the time) years our of date.
I walked in to a warm-feeling classic style hotel, greeted by the owner Tildy who was quite a character and fun to chat to.
My room was basic and cosy, the bathrooms are quite "old school" but it adds to the feel of the place.
I will stay here next time I visit Hobart, the location and price alone were appealing but it also felt like home. The breakfast is included, fairly simple with break/spreads/cereals but that's all you need really. The dining room is comfortable and the whole place has a lovely warm feel in the decor throughout.

Homely classic hotel in the city

We have stayed at Tildy’s since our 40’s and this year we turn 6o. Our twenty year old children have now also been introduced to the Astors charm too and loved it.
Always welcoming Neil and Tildy, great team and love hearing about your adventures. 
Hotel is immaculate in its cleanliness and has room for everyone budget. Tildys love of eclectic art work adds to the experience with each room having unique pieces
Tildy and Neil will mind your gear during walk or river splash
Listen to your triumphs and commiserate with your bruises
Give advice on restaurants 
Post Covid  their warmth is even more a jewel to battered travellers
