I love Cat Ba so much I’ve been a few times. This hotel is owned by a lovely family. Rooms are spacious and hygienic, beds are very comfortable and clean. Our bathroom light bulb burned out the 2nd night of our stay and they fixed it before we even got round to telling them about it. Laundry, beverages, and breakfast are all cheap and well worth it. I was dubious because it’s so cheap but no gimmicks here. Just honest people. Which is why I felt so compelled to write a review. I particularly like that the receptionist isn’t too pushy with all the tours he offers. But I wish he would have said something because we took a boat cruise for 500k rather than the 300k tour they offered for a similar package. And bike rentals were only 80k! Can’t vouch for the quality of these things though we didn’t get a chance to try them out. 
Anyways if you do stay here take a look at their bulletin board in reception because they offer loads of tours.

The tour was fantastic we could see how it was more complete than the other boats around us. My friends and i choose the one day boat trip. Excellent qualities of services the food was great.. the tour guide is really kind and helpful.Highly recommended cat ba guest house

The hosts are amazing and friendly helped us with tours (me and my friend took the 1 day boat trip we got a great rate with our hostel everywhere else was over charging) and great site suggestions. Rooms are cleaned daily and blanket was supper cozy :). Loved my stay here, hope to come back again soon.

Amazing

A friend and I spontaneously decided to do a trip to Cat Ba to visit Ha Long Bay from there. After some quick research we decided for Cat Ba guest house. As it turns out it was a great one! First of all we got an upgrade to a family room with two beds instead of the regular one bed room we booked. The room itself was good especially when you take the very cheap price into count. Mostly clean and everything basic you need. No shower curtain though, only the shower head itself. After a quick visit to the city and a bad food experience we, from the on, asked the owner for advice. He was very helpful with everything. We booked our boat day trip with him for what we think is a fair price of 16$. The trip itself was nice, everything like we expected. We got a recommendation for a restaurant as well, which was way nicer and the same price as we one I mentioned earlier. You feel especially welcomed here as well, because the owning family really cares. We got free tea while we waited for the bus and got in some friendly chats throughout our stay. Without the great friendly and flexible service (we always booked the evening before) I think Cat Ba wouldn't have turned out as good as it did!

My lifesaver in Cat Ba

We stayed here 4 nights and were very pleased with everything. We'd read reviews about a cold welcome but we didn't feel that at all! It's a family run guest house and the whole family always say hello and help with whatever you need. They're very sweet and we felt very welcomed.

The room was great value for money (we'd originally booked just 2 nights), bed was clean and comfortable, shower hot and location good. Wifi was a bit temperamental but was good enough to use occasionally.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend.
