Uncomfortable room, no chair to relax in. Two by four wood headboard. Sharp edged 2 foot x 2 foot metal night stand. Chair by writing area was hard metal. The rod for hanging clothes was over the counter where the fridge and microwave were. Impossible to hand anything longer than a shirt. The overall ambiance was of a cellar .Why people are giving four or five stars is beyond me. Though I will say I peeked into the “suite” rooms and I saw a couch.

While I understand no housekeeping, I thought it would have been more welcoming to have four bath and hand towels in the towel rack.  When we arrived soap had not been placed in our room.

The little breakfast house is cute, but the food is awful. Only waffles, teeny muffins and soft disgusting fruit. Some sweetened cereal.  Not worth the trouble..

The beach is hardly that. There is a nice porch on the back of the building where we sat when we were back at the hotel, because the rooms were so unappealing.

Every night I counted the hours until we left. Staff was pleasant.

Unappealing, uninviting and uncomfortable

This hotel is a bit off the main visitor part of town, but not so much that you couldn’t walk there if you chose. The setting is quiet; our room looked out on a grassy area of about 1/2 acre. It felt private, which I like. All rooms have an outdoor entrance. The room is spacious and there is plenty of room to put your stuff out and sit and read. We had two kings. Laundry facilities are free and the washers and dryers work well. 

We did not make it for breakfast, but my husband did check it out and was not impressed. This was late in the morning, however. The beds are pretty soft. I used the laundry room and one washer was full of clothing, the other had a sheet and someone’s shoes. They appeared to have been there a while, but not long enough to smell. The dryers were full as well. One was full of hotel sheets and personal laundry and I cannot remember what was in the other. Again, they had been in there a while and were not completely dry. I just took them out and dried my clothes. 

We would definitely stay here again. It was clean and not too expensive.

Clean and Quiet

We booked this room last minute for the last night of our vacation, and were unsure of what to expect but we were so delighted!! First off, the location is mostly ideal.  It is near all of the great restaurants and attractions, including Arnold Park and public parks.  The only downside to the location is that it is right off a busy street, and I could hear traffic through a good part of the night when the air conditioning fan wasn’t running. 
Our room was so spacious and open.  Even more importantly, our room was clean and comfortable.  The kids and I loved the super cool British theme, and even enjoyed a real working British dial up phone inside our room.   There was also an open green space for bonfires, a small walk-up food stand (which appeared to have a great menu and tasty food), a tasting room with live music during certain times, and a bike path around the property. Bikes (adult bikes) are also provided to help yourself to for a spin. The ONLY downside to this property was the lack of pool.  However, the lake is literally down the street. So I suppose you could possibly make up for that via lake recreation. We would definitely stay here again!

Loved this British Okoboji hotel

We had never been to Lake Okoboji before but decided to mark the end of summer with an impromptu family trip. A friend recommended this area and after looking online we found this hotel to be one of the few left available. The British theme was fun but besides a few signs, artwork, and a flag pillow, that was about as far as it went. We still thought it was charming and unique though! 
It didn’t have a pool but my boys are older now and renting boats and fishing on the lake worked better for us. The hotel was very clean and the reception staff were friendly and helpful, especially hardworking Owen! 
The room came with two king beds which were very comfortable and gave the 4 of us room to stretch out and it also had a refrigerator, a microwave, a hairdryer, and a coffee maker. The bathrooms were also very clean and nice!  And even though the daily breakfast and housekeeping wasn’t available with the Corona Virus, they let you know that you could request more towels and trash bags anytime, and that the McDonalds was right across the street. Or, they also had a vending machine for pop across the lawn or burgers and such at the Smack Shack located behind the hotel.  They also had a cute tasting room on the property but we weren’t able to check that out on this trip. 
They have a beautiful dock down by the lake, a lovely gazebo and corn-hole games on the lawn.  It is also right on the bike trail so be sure to look both ways before stepping outside. They have both types of outdoor fires,..the regular fire pits overlooking part of the lake with red Adirondack chairs, and then the gas fires out by the gazebo with metal benches. There is no elevator but it is only 2 floors and the stairs are wide, so it was very manageable with luggage. 
The hotel is also in a very nice location and close to everything,...shops, restaurants, golfing, and especially the adorable gift shop called Barn-swallow, which you can walk to!  
I think our only thumbs down would have to be the one metal chair in the room that was very uncomfortable (and there was no other place to sit in the room except on the bed) and the fact that the satellite for the tv was out the whole weekend. Other than that, it was a nice, friendly, clean place to stay and we will keep it in mind whenever we return again! 👍

Labor Day Weekend with Teenagers 

This is a decent place to stay a night or two, however it isn't anything special.  We had one of the 'suites', which wasn't anything special.  With the British theme, I was expecting more but it is mainly just in the sign and a few paintings.  There are firepits at night which are a nice touch.  The walls are paper thin and we could here people on both sides and above.  If just looking for a place to sleep, it's ok.

Average Hotel

We have stayed at this fantastic hotel many times over the last few years! Cleanliness, amenities and experience never disappoints. Close to all the things you love about Okoboji. No question, will stay again!

Lake View Perfection

The owner was super friendly and very welcoming. The rooms were awesome I love the shower and the beds were so comfortable, and clean. I loved the electric fires, walk to the dock, the smack shack and the openness of the whole building. I would love to come back again. Loved the Atmosphere.

Okaboji

The staff, the facility, the layout are super nice, welcoming, and accommodating. Day one- three interactions forced upon me and my family with other fellow guests who were other than anything nice. They were straight up jerks and they went out of their way to make it know they were there to be jerks. I couldn’t believe how rude people could be but then again you see racist flags all over the area unfortunately so maybe I’m vacationing in the wrong place? It’s a shame because this hotel is really special and unique. The beds are super plush and luxurious. The bathroom mat is the best find of any 4-5 star hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms are big, spacious, and love the floor to ceiling windows. I would otherwise recommend it.

Accommodating staff

We enjoyed our stay here.  I liked how big the rooms were, the fire pits to sit around and the convience to the dock.  The only thing, it has a lot of steps and no railing on the bottom landing.  It is slippery when wet and needs more hand railing to the bottom.

nice place

This motor lodge has been completely remodeled to a Great Britain theme. Our room was huge with clean, modern furniture. Step outside for a lake view, beach front with a private pier, fire pit, outdoor grill, game of bags, sit under the gazebo to have breakfast or in Adirondack chairs under a covered awning and watch boats go by. Breakfast was included plus free WiFi. McDonalds  is right next door and several other eating and drinking options within walking distance. You can also rent open air buggies or bicycles to cruise the loop. We checked in at midnight and the staff was super friendly.  We highly recommend plus the price was reasonable.
