The location was right over the water. The balcony was a bit of a disappointment. The entire corner area of the balcony in the living room was blocked off because that area of the deck was structurally compromised, and the video and photo do not show that. The owner did not admit to that till a day before we arrived. So much for false presentation. The unit was not properly cleaned. We had to clean the showers before we could use them. There was human hair on the walls of the guest bedroom. The sink in the master bedroom was clogged to the point where we had to wait 30 minutes for it to drain. The towel racks were all loose. The towel rack in the master bedroom was just hanging on the wall. When my wife used the rack, it fell off the wall and bruised her foot. The screen in the master bedroom slider was torn and the rollers were compromised. The kitchen was fine and everything worked including lights and fans and the shades. After all the fees this place cost us a $1000 per day. The units by us rented for half that amount. The common area below the unit that had tables and barbecues were blocked off because the patio was compromised by erosion. The beach was not really usable by children since the beach dropped off quickly into deeper water. Our boys used the chase lounges on the grass. Given all this we till had a really good time. The location was ideal for hiking and ability to have really nice restaurants near by. I called the host and she immediately got a repair man to fix the drain and repair the towel racks. All and all this is an average place except for the location.

Kahana Sunset A1

We were reminded every morning with the sunrise and every evening with the sunset why we came to Hawaii, and the peacefulness and privacy of Kahana Sunset helped us enjoy the experience. The beach was small but private. Our unit (C5) was excellent with every amenity at our fingertips and very clean.  It was less than a mile to a grocery market, coffee shop, the Napili Farm Market (Wed and Sat) and to restaurants.  Would definitely stay there again.

Private beach with spectacular views and nice community

Booked Kahana Sunset D7 6 months in advance. No problem booking and paying. HOWEVER, within hours of checking in the roaches came out of hiding. The ants on the table and kitchen were already busy when we arrived. The unit was not well maintained. Needs a DEEP cleaning. Dirty baseboards, vents, mice poop under the sink. Furniture old and worn. NO privacy on the patio. On the plus side, the kitchen was decently furnished. The roaches chased us out though. We were not willing to have them crawling in our stuff and going home with us, plus that’s just nasty to have roaches anywhere. We packed up and moved out at midnight on day one. Found a beautiful condo in Kahei that was immaculate and insect-free. Maybe other properties are cleaner and bug-free but don’t stay in D7 until they hire exterminator and cleaning crew that will do more than common surfaces. Sullivan Properties is the management company and they did apologize and granted our refund request.

Roaches chased us out

This place is beautiful! You couldn’t get any better location. The views and the water is spectacular. You can also snorkel around there.Sea turtles swim around. There is a pool and grills. The condo we stayed in was spacious, clean and had all the things we needed.

Paradise!

We stayed in Unit E7 for four nights at the end of May. Overall the experience was mediocre and we won’t be back because there are much better places to stay. The beach immediately in front of the property is nice but very small. The pool area is also very small. By 2pm the wind was howling every day.  The barbecues are too weak  to sear a steak. The tiny parking spots  are situated between posts that make it extremely difficult to pull in and out. Although this may sound kind of petty  it was annoying to deal with this stress every single time we came or went. The unit itself was comfortable but outdated. Tiny kitchen with zero dry goods for cooking. We have stayed at vacation rentals in Hawaii and on the mainland for many years. A rental is usually stocked with some basics purchased by previous guests and left behind. This unit did even have a starter pack of coffee. Check in is not until 4pm, no exceptions, so plan accordingly.There are too many good hosts who pay attention to the little details that add up to a great stay to waste your time or money here.

Kahana Sunset E7

We stayed in A3 with another couple for 2 weeks.  The grounds and staff working the  units were very professional and kind.  A3 has a beautiful view but that’s the extent of it.  It is seriously outdated with things falling apart , falling off or just not working.  The floor is missing patches of flooring. The  front door drops chunks of paint each time you close it.  The toilet roll holders  are falling off the walls.  The bath doesn’t drain (took over 24hrs). The stove  top only has a couple burners working.  Fridge has broken shelves.  Doors don’t close.  Internet crashed and didn’t work the last few days.  Coffee pot is a serious fire hazard.  The list goes on.  Whomever owns this place needs to put some TLC into it.  I really don’t think you will receive return guests. For the same amount of money I will get another unit with the same price but well looked after.

Great Property but A3 needs TLC

We have been going to the Kahana for 30 years or more.  At one time there was only the Kahana sunset pool.  I changed after we received very little notice about major work being done on the beach wall.  One time two weeks before we are suppose to show the beach and pool were closed.  I called the office and they were very apologetic and offered to find us a spot.  We now use Sullivan Properties.  Kelly and Steve are great and go the extra mile.  We ask our friends and family to call Sullivan direct. We had to cancel our 2019 trip but look forward to 2021

We have been going to the Sunset for a long time.

Whenever I visit Maui, even though I have family living there, Kahana Sunset is my home away from home. The secluded beach, "at the door" parking, the pool, are just a few reasons why. 

I normally stay in Building D, 2nd level. I was solo on my most recent trip so I stayed on the lower level. Could not hear the visitors above me or to either side of me.   Parking was not "at the door" but only a few steps away and covered. Still much better than the expensive condos where you have to walk a football field away and uncovered.  

I hesitate to recommend this place because I feel like it's my little secret. 

My home away from home

Great location! The condo complex is located on the West side of Maui, about 15 min drive from Lahaina village – a popular tourist destination with shops, bars, restaurants, art galleries, a local port providing countless excursions and entertainment options.

With our booking, we got: vacation rental condo with a living room, a bedroom, full kitchen, washer & dryer, a parking spot, free WiFi access, access to shared amenities, pool, BBQ, and BEST OF ALL - access to a PRIVATE BEACH!

Not too many properties in Maui or even in Hawaii can boast that. We've made few stops at public beaches, and frankly, it is a total nightmare: too many people along with security concerns, privacy concerns and total interference with enjoyment. So yes, the fact that Kahana Sunset has its own private beach is definitely earning its bonus points on our review.
The absolute best thing about the private beach at Kahana Sunset, well, actually two things, are turtles and sunsets!

If you travel with your kids, you couldn’t find a better spot to watch and interact with large sea turtles! They are right there at the beach and in the water near the beach feeding off the reefs. 
...and sunsets are absolutely spectacular!!!!

The only discomfort we’ve experienced was: the windows in the bedroom do not have the glass. These only have wooden shades that even when fully closed do not sit tight and are not sound-proof. One of the nights a guy next door was talking loudly on the phone with someone at 6 am and this woke all of us up. So bring earplugs! 
Otherwise, everything was great!

Canadian Family Review and Honest Feedback

We had a fantastic time! Great place to stay - beach and pool easily accessible. Our only complaint for the entire week we spent there was related to the parking situation. The rules clearly state that "parking is first come first served" yet we were very rudely yelled at by the occupants of D-1 (they seemed like permanent residents) when we used "their" parking space as all of the other spots in the lots were taken. Rude to the point that they were banging on our front door and yelling. The only improvement I can think of would be for that unit to chill out a little bit...
