What an amazing restaurant.
The location, setting, the room, and of course the food and the staff  - all exceeded our expectations.  We treated our family to the Christmas day lunch, one of whom was the previous reviewer (who gave a "Terrible" review regarding our lunch).  As you can imagine, we couldn't agree any less with the comments made in that review.  AJ and the other staff could not have been more helpful, and the food was delicious.  We all had four wonderful choices for each course, all of them difficult to choose between.  We are very much looking forward to coming to the Priory again.

Exceeded our high expectations!

Glorious. Looks like a picture postcard. Restaurant was first class, world class. Room was older than most countries and rather more interesting/quirky. Plumbing bang up to date. Shower was great, bed nicely balanced between firm and comfortable. Service up to scratch. Location bang in the middle of town, in a beautiful part of the country.

Tiny wee quibbles - a hook or peg behind the door or on the wall to allow hanging up full length coats (it's mid winter) would have been appreciated (the wardrobe was waist-height in the eaves).  Also some sort of shelf somewhere in the bathroom so you had space to put out your bathroom stuff would have been good.

Superb accommodation,location,food and service,who could ask for more! Atmosphere in hotel was incredible,staff couldn’t do enough for you. Priory in wonderful location on the river with lovely views over the fields where deer could be seen.
 A wonderful experience which I hope to repeat in the future.

A perfect Diamond Wedding anniversary.

This is a review of the garden room restaurant on Thursday 2nd Feb for lunch. I arrived, solo, and without a reservation whilst I was out exploring in the area. 
The greeting was friendly and I was given a superb table in the corner, nearest the river. 
My waiter was fabulous for my entire time there. I went with a negroni cocktail to start (my favourite and 'go to' drink) and an excellent one arrived.
Bread was delicious and piping hot. 
I went with the scallops from the treat yourself menu and the pork from the a la carte. Both dishes were phenomenal. I had a glass of delicious chardonnay (that I selected by a blind tasting offered by my waiter!) Overall my lunch was perfect in every way!

Exceptional!

Stayed one night here in the Bindon room. Beautiful old hotel, with lots of quirky architecture due to the age of the original building. Our room was lovely, with a view over the river. 5 stars for putting fresh milk in the mini bar to make a proper cup of tea. Breakfast was served in a stunning oak beamed modern extension. Everything was of a very high standard. The staff were very helpful, and I would not hesitate to stay again in the future.

Beautiful old hotel.

I have titled this review, not from a wish to be snobbish but to be honest about the Priory from reading other reviews. 
There is a market for this type of hotel, admittedly amongst the retired, which means that if you want a place with a relaxed attitude to dress codes and noisy children you may not find it to your taste. 
Living locally, we have been coming here for many years for “that special occasion” and on this last visit it more than lived up to our expectations. The welcome was genuine but understated. The food was faultless (the prawn cocktail very much worth the supplement) and the wine excellently presented. The service was efficient but again unobtrusive in keeping with the atmosphere,. 
The Priory is what it is and from a business point of view they make a success of it. 
It is expensive but for the special experience it is worth it. We shall return for the next family celebration.

Exclusive and Superb

We love coming here especially Christmas the staff are always so friendly, we did go for valentines which we didn’t really enjoy the food as it was to much seafood but we will not put us off. See you soon.

Always feel special here

Went for Sunday lunch with neighbours, food, service were all fabulous as usual. Had a lovely walk around the gardens and ponds, watching the boats go by on the river. Highly recommend it for someone’s birthday or just an excuse for a leisurely meal.

Howard’s Visit

Had a lovely suite overlooking the garden, dinner and breakfast House menu was very nice, choice for cooked breakfast and usual plus freshly squeezed juice. Coffee -tea almost as you sat down for breakfast. The garden is an absolute gem of a well established well cared for garden. Staff was attentive and discreet. rooms immaculate.

Delighful stay in every way

Beautiful building, and the grounds showed a lot of promise, unfortunately we stayed in wet and miserable weather. I could see it would be a stunning location in warmer months.
Staff are attentive and despite some other reviews, those we experienced were happy to accommodate, engage with you and to share a joke.
Some minor niggles with the room and building facilities, but I'm pragmatic enough to realise they're working with the dimensions of a very old building. I wasn't disturbed by any other rooms or guests, which as a light sleeper is rarely the case.
Food highlights were smoked haddock souffle and the breakfast bacon; some of the best I've had. Meal was enjoyable.
