This is our favourite come back to’ place in the UK.  Never tire of the beauty of the area or the quality of the accommodation.  Top notch in all respects.
Whether you want a tranquil experience or the opportunity for an active time in the Lakes - this is the place to be.

Unbeatable value

The apartment and surroundings are lovely. this was a short break booked for my parents who are in their late 80s. they had daily problems with the heating and engineer came had to come out eveyday.  Whatever time the engineer set it too the following day it didnt work and the heating was coming on at all peculiar times.the things that I most angry at is the total lack of sympathy shown by the Manager Richard, he as absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever.  Tried to blame my parents, several times when I spoke to him on the phone.  He was rude, off hand and obvioualy does not go by the saying the 'customer is always right'.  I also found out that he had been offhand/rude when he was on the phone to my Mum and one of his engineers, who was in the apartment at the time of the telephone call,  actually said to my Mum, 'yes he is, thats my boss'.  I cannot get over how horrible he was too me on the phone and had not a shred of decency or sympathy.  so the paprtment was lovely apart from the problem with the heating but I wouldnt go back because of how ignorant the Manager was.

Absoloutely fantastic place to stay while visiting the lakes , spotless , and had everything we needed staff were great from booking in online right through the stay, lovely location next to the river.  will definitely return later this year.

My happy place. The lodges are on the river with incredible views. Lodges have everything you could possibly need- it's our home from home. Super comfy beds and well decorated. Staff are always so happy to help even when I turned up on the wrong date

Lovely location on either sides of the River Leven. Quality though slightly dated furnishings. Smart TV in living room & password protected WiFi. No welcome tea/coffee. Recycling bag & bin provided. Patio & balcony to enjoy the river.

Great location for exploring southern lakes. Walkable in daylight, to Lakeland motor museum, Lakeside & Hatherthwaite Steam railway, & Anglers Inn. Discounts available detailed in welcome letter. Quite dark so torch needed if go to hotel which had a "Happy hour" Monday to Thursday.

Access to hotel leisure facilities cost an extra £65 for 2 of us but is open 7.30am - 7/9.30pm & good range of gym machines & weight.

Lovely quiet & scenic location which we would visit again 

Relax by the river & explore Southern lakes

Stayed once again in our timeshare cottage 42. Unfortunately, the weather this year wasn't great but we still enjoyed a relaxing stay. We visited the Motor Museum cafe for lunch which we thought was a bit overpriced (luckily we had our 10% discount card with us). We went to the Anglers Arms which was lovely and well worth trying. On are way home we called to Haverthwaite station cafe for breakfast which apart from the bacon (overcooked) was fine. 

Another relaxing stay 

Cottage No 4 with the sauna was certainly an excellent location! A beautiful view down the river Leven and the sound of the water was awesome! Daily you would see the rafters from Lake District White Water Rafting pass by and see the steam train puffs above the trees. The cottage had absolutely everything we could need, including a cute welcome doggy bag for our Lab. As we had a dog, a small side gate to contain him (or kids) away from the communal area and fast flowing river could be handy. We had a slight annoyance one morning, i messaged via my Booking.com app and a handyman was at our door and sorted within the hour. Perfect!
 Even though we had use of our own sauna we decided to take up the Cascades membership (£65 for a family of 4 for the week) which allowed us to use the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and squash courts. I had seen on another review that electricity was extra, but apparently ours was included (Booking.com). We didn't use the hotel for dinner, it did always seem quite quiet but if you do want to use it, you have to book a table by 6pm for that evening. The Swan pub is 2 miles up the road at Newby Bridge. Great location, great atmosphere and food. The Anglers pub (in the opposite direction) was very quiet but very polite and welcoming amd has a pool table. Pick up your shopping before getting to the cottage as local shops are a no no. The closest we found was a Premier located in the Shell garage at Newby Bridge. Higginson Butchers at Grange over Sands is a must!!! Their pies are addictive and their lamb is devine!! We ordered a half a lamb a couple of days before we left to bring home with us. 
All in all, a delightful stay. 

Lakeland View Cottage No 4 - sauna

This was a timeshare swap and we felt we'd struck lucky with a great July week and apt 14, which is the one with the balcony in the main photo to the right of the spiral staircase. Immaculate and with lots of virtually new contents, it was a joy to stay in this two bed apartment. [Well, once we'd mastered opening the key box and filed down one broken nail!]
  The view was stunning along the R.Leven, over to the weir and the sound of rushing water was an incentive to keep the patio windows open. Comfy beds, two fully tiled bath/shower rooms and a well equipped, very clean kitchen were much appreciated by us.
  With the apartment being part of the Whitewater Hotel it was a bit confusing, especially with a receptionist sending us to room 214 in a different part of the building. The hotel seemed very quiet for July and as we were self catering, we didn't eat in the hotel. Reception seemed to have an ever changing staff all week, some of whom always carried on chattering when we passed through rather than smile or say hello.
   We ate out at the cafe/restaurant in the nearby Motor Museum [worth a visit if you're a petrol head] and the food is reasonably priced and very satisfying. Although I did have to "see the chef" after yet another basket of chips, which were not cheap at £4, arrived with £2 worth of small bits and only seven decent sized chips. He said "that's how they came out of the bag" which made me wonder as the menu said they were thrice cooked chips! Anyway, harmony was restored when he brought through another tub of perfectly sized chips.
   The best place we ate was The Farmer's Arms in Ulverston, where my cousin and I enjoyed perfectly cooked WHOLE trout in a beautiful, butter garlic sauce with roasted new potatoes and a separate side dish of vegetables.  My husband chose the whole rack of ribs with a fantastic BBQ sauce, chips and salad, which arrived on an enormous wooden board, which took up half the table!  I nicked a taste and it just melted in my mouth...delicious. So we can thoroughly recommend this pub in the heart of Ulverston, but do book a table as it was very busy at lunchtime.
  Also worth a visit is the short steam railway journey from Haverthwaite [just down the road] and then by boat to Bowness, or further. On a sunny day, it's a wonderful trip and no cars to find a parking space for!
  Another day, we visited the gardens at Levens Hall with it's breathtaking topiary and gorgeous flowers to admire. Their tea room is very popular with a good choice of food and we shared a big scone, really fresh, with clotted cream and jam.
   Although normally we'd never visit such a tourist hot spot as The Lakes in mid-July, it is possible to enjoy many other places in the vicinity without getting caught up in traffic jams and Cumbria has lots of attractive venues.
 

Worth a stay for the view alone!

recently stayed in apartment 31 for a week. The apartment had everything we needed with the added bonus of lovely views of the river. If you're looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday apartment this would be an ideal choice.

Apartment 31

I am staying in Apt. 21 at Lakeside Village.  The accommodation is excellent consisting 2 bedrooms, one en-suite.  There is a se on bathroom and also a separate W.C. Downstairs.  Also a comfortable lounge and open plan dining room and kitchen area.  The apartment is fitted out for Six persons as there is a put-u-up which is concealed in a cupboard which pulls down into the dining area.  It is spotlessly clean and well equipped.  Large fridge and freezer, washing machine and dishwasher are also included.  Our particular apartment overlooks the River Levens and there is a private outside seating area with wrought iron table and chairs.  This is a great place for exploring the lakes.
