This was the only pub we could get into on Christmas Eve in Truro. I wonder why? Staff disinterested. No fire in the grate! NO crisps in stock and completely undrinkable beer! My husband had a pint of tribute to start with, which was cloudy - not right, but not too bad. We were intending to stay for another because the children were playing pool but, having asked for tasters of 2 of the alternative beers, both of which were equally cloudy - we left without having another. So many small things they could do to make this a better experience, but surely a pub should at least be able to keep one decent ale? Now we know why there was no-one (literally) in there and I’m afraid we won’t be returning either. Couldn’t be more disappointing.

We would have done without!

Parking, went inside to ask if there was parking and although he wasn’t busy he kept walking off. Not welcomed at all, didn’t even ask for our names. Was told if there was no space on the cobbled front where people go to smoke then there is no where and did not suggest anywhere else he just walked off!
Unfriendly not welcomed, didn’t even say hello just told breakfast is between 8-9am in the bar and our room was room 3 upstairs.
Downstairs stank of dogs and like a urinal. Don’t get me wrong I like dogs but it stank!
Stairs were very very steep so difficult to get up and down.
Room was ready but no keys available to start with. Given key to room and outside door as no one there at night but not given any information on who to contact in an emergency or what to do in case of fire etc
Room was very dark and dingy and again smelt of dogs. Dead flowers displayed in room, filthy windows. No access to drinking water or to make a hot drink other than from the bathroom and Sette stained
No mattress protector on bed
En-suite stank of wee, had to clean it before using it and toothpaste in sink. The door didn’t shut properly and the lock didn’t work.
Complimentary bottles in bathroom had been used
Toilet was obviously blocked as just doing a wee the water came to the top when flushing so by the morning was completely blocked. Also toilet seat plastic was lifting off.
Had to sleep in clothes with blanket from the car and coats because bedding just smelt and felt dirty and the room was very cold. The noise from the road was very loud as windows are in such bad condition and you could hear every movement from the room next door and the hallway.
Tried to book somewhere else as that bad but only place available wanted £214 and we just don’t have that money.
Breakfast was had by my husband but not myself as just felt sick with the smell downstairs
Didn’t feel welcome or able to complain as very unwelcoming
My husband told him in the morning that we wouldn’t be there on the Saturday night due to me being unwell and he just grunted at him at few times and walked off 
Felt so I’ll in the morning had to return home, not that we were planning to stay there ever again and wouldn’t be surprised if it turns into covid as was just filthy.

Filthy place and not welcome, please think of your health and don’t waste your money!

An amazingly friendly bar , felt totally at ease , the room was so comfortable , an amazing powerful shower , I have hip issues , the bed was so comfortable  , amazing woke up feeling great , great choice of cereal at breakfast along with a superb cooked breakfast that was amazing !!!!

My stay at City Inn, Truro

I purchased a voucher for my parents for Christmas 2019, as they love Cornwall we searched through offer and found this lovely B and B, I booked for June but due to dads health and COVID restrictions and the fact he was shielding they were unable to go, I contacted Sheila and she was happy to change booking to September and was very helpful.
My parents have just returned home to tell me of their experience...they arrived at city inn, no parking they had to park down the road and walk, plus pay for it , no one to welcome them, dad called number he had they eventually let them in (6 hour drive) 4.30 in the evening!
Dad asked why they wasn’t in the room they were promised, sonia told them the man who was in there wasn’t ready to go do they let him stay...fair enough, but then she approached them half an hour later saying she was fed up of people purchasing vouchers and expecting 5star treatment, she then went on to say she has a new agreement to take on NHS staff and only agreed to my parents using the voucher had bought them as a one off!!

Made my parents feel very uncomfortable! 
I’m sad she felt the need to mention this to them, along with poor hygiene, breakfast and dinner times erratic, as well as portions and service!
I understand times are difficult and leading up to my parents visit, sonia was helpful and seemed to want to go above and beyond, unfortunately this wasn’t the case for this establishment!

Disappointing 

Stayed for two nights. Room was spotless and very comfortable Sonia was an excellent host even going so far as to  prepare me a meal when i had finished
 work late  Highly recommended and i will definitely return

The internet was very slow and almost unusable. The room smelled smokey and had very poor soundproofing with noises being heard from the street and the pub all through the night. The staff were also a little rude and standoffish.

Over priced for what it is

The City Inn Truro is in the perfect location in Cornwall and within 4 minutes walk to shops and cathedral. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The shower was excellent and Sonia was a very friendly host. We booked through a voucher and were supersized to see so many bad reviews as we highly recommend it.

Enjoyed our stay

Bad, Bad, Bad - no ventilation, shower head in wrong place, smelly toilet, Sinky and stained mattress.. No enough lights.. DON'T EVEN ASK ABOUT COVID precautions. I have used buyagfit voucher, otherwise it was total show stopper to be honest. Buyagift should remove this kind of place from their choice

Total strip off and awful accomodation

Dirty,dusty,dog hairs,no room service,carpets a disgrace.bed linen questionable.the laminate flooring in our bathroom ouzed water when walked over,breakfast---what breakfast ? Had booked for 4 nights,however walked away after 2. No chest or hanging facilities for clothes A dreadful dreadful experience

Wipe your feet whan leaving

Well, if is a filthy room with stained mattresses and rude staff then this is the Inn for you!
First impressions were awful, going up to the rooms the stair carpet was covered on dog hairs, still what was I expecting for £70? Undeterred I went on, the room was small but big enough, unlike the smallest TV I have ever seen.
I went to the bar to have tea, except they weren't serving food. 
Came back from Truro having found a pub that actually had food, not to worry about the TV I could watch my iPad well I could except the WiFi wasn't working, no problem - I'll read a book except there wasn't a lamp in the room so had to leave the main light on.
The ensuite was interesting, the toilet seat swung 180 degrees when you opened the lid, clearly no point in providing toilet paper as there was none.
Feeling slightly grumpy, I went to bed, pulled back the cover and was a bit disgusted to find no mattress protector and some dubious looking stains. The sash windows are single glazed and filthy and did little to keep out the street noise from below. 
A quick search told me that there were no other rooms in Truro that night so I had to make do. 
I finally drifted off lulled to sleep by the loudest ticking clock I have heard. 
Breakfast well, I won't even go there unless you like your fried egg slimey and your toast burnt. 
Needless to say, we won't be back
