An 'old english hotel' that feels calm and elegant. Well furnished rooms with great views over the surrounding countryside. The food was excellent but the drinks prices at the bar are way too expensive and took the gloss off an otherwise good night. 

We spent the Christmas period at the hotel and there were mixed reviews so we didn't quite know what to expect. The hotel looks lovely from outside and our room was average - we didn't spend much time in the room anyway but what stood out was the fantastic quality of the food. Every meal was superb. I'd say the hotel was catering for an older age group as the general atmosphere was quiet. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We enjoyed our Christmas there - we especially enjoyed going in to Ludlow on Boxing Day morning to watch the hunt meeting outside the castle and watch the spectacular ride through the town .

Christmas 2017

Management is indicating Hotel is closing long term so best to check out the facts before booking. However Dinham Hotel in Ludlow is still available and equally good.
Goods rooms and excellent food and convenient location

Change or circumstances

pulled up to this grand house inside was beautiful. but bar or restaurant wasn't open when we arrived (friday) we said we may stay eat in restaurant Saturday to be told it won't be open Saturday. so both night we ate out. breakfast amazing and service was 5*. but our room was freezing had take tiny heater out wardrobe plugged in. The TV reception was awful only could watch one channel bathroom beautiful but unfortunately shower was attaches to taps.some us can't get into bath cause of injury health reasons. also shower head was on wall as low as the taps were turned shower  on and leaked everywhere.and worse thing was every electrical in the room was 4mths out of 're testing (pat testing)   below is just one pic of put date pat testing.  bad management. 
And when complained the guy on desk said he take £30 off bill as we had  it cheaper through booking.com.
don t care where we booked it through still should had pleasant stay.

won't stay again

While the hotel itself is lovely and generally well maintained, the welcome we had was unbelievable. We arrived on a Thursday night to find the car park empty, the hotel in darkness and the front door locked. Many futile calls were made to the manager Franck who had days earlier confirmed the reservation and that  check in was open until 10pm. A voicemail then came in (poor reception) from the reception indicating that they were closing reception at 7:30 and that we had missed our opportunity to check in! This response was truly unbelievable. We made our way back to the car to figure out our options at 8pm on the day before Easter. After a couple minutes of looking up options, a gentleman cane up to our car & explained that he called the manager & she would be here in 10 mins to check us in. We were starving and had hoped to have dinner at the hotel but that was clearly not going to be an option.

Once she arrived, we were shown to our room and told that she could not stay in the property & we would be there by ourselves. The room is clean but a bit on the small side and the power from the shower is quite low, but you’re still able to take a shower. We were then told that the rate did not include breakfast but that we could have a full English for an exorbitant £15 each!

The stay was uneventful. Skeletal staff but the room was cleaned daily.

If there was proper service/reception at the hotel, this would be a very different review. The manager never apologised or offered any discount. Would only return if under different management.
Still have 1 day left on my stay- maybe amends can still be made!
