What a place.
We were made to feel so welcome and the staff were fantastic.
The evening meal was absolutely lovely and the breakfast was amazing and made it a great start to the day.
The price of drinks and food were very reasonable.
The room was very clean and tidy.

Great staff great food and we will be back next year.

Fantastic place

Stopped for a planned visit on a weekday in early September.  Had read the reviews and understood there to be new people and the food had good reviews.  We were not disappointed. The first thing was the great welcome, friendly hosts, it had a nice feel about it. The other thing which ticked our boxes was the plain home cooked food on the menu, nothing fancy, just old fashioned hearty food, and lots of choice.  We had the cauliflower mornay - absolutely fab, so tasty.  We also had the fish and chips and the ploughmans.  Good sized generous portions.  On chatting to the landlady it is apparent that the food is all cooked from scratch and home made, with proper ingredients, which we liked, not processed food. Next time will have the steak pie, and the landlady offered to add kidney if we let her know beforehand  - (happy husband!). We couldn’t fit dessert in, but came away well happy. It will be interesting to see how this traditional pub fares as the new hosts get established, but we wish them well and will definitely return.

Superb home cooked food good value

Forest platter was superb, lovely fresh ingredients, home made coleslaw was a treat! Staff friendly and helpful,  beautiful country pub in superb location!! Will definitely return on next visit to Devon!

Perfect 

I turned up without a reservation, and got a room with a seperate (not shared) bathroom, which was no a big issue.  Room was nice, extremely quiet, cosy.

Location excellent for exploring Dartmoor. The drive to the Inn is beautiful.

Breakfast pretty good.  Nice bar.  

Dinner was not great, but believe that is managed separately to hotel.

Great wee Inn, the bed was so comfortable. Very relaxed environment.
Great TV reception in room. No phone signal, but Wi-Fi easily covered that with VOIP calls.
Hosts were great, very knowledgeable about other local establishments for food/drink. Breakfast was very good.
Lovely little Bar, with a good range of drinks. Plenty of outdoor seating.
Couldn't comment on evening meals as they weren't being served during our stay.

If I had a reason to visit Dartmoor again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

What a surprise!

I stayed in The Forest INN with a colleague a week before Christmas.  I fell in love with the place it was perfect. 

The bedroom was spotless  Best nights sleep due the comfortable mattress  The hospitality tray was fantastic.  There was something for everyone; good quality tea, coffee, chocolate et al. The lovely china mug sold it for me.  The room was so warm; it felt like home 

The lovely landlord Paddy went above and beyond for us. I am returning in February for work and really looking forward to being there again  This really is value for money and I would recommend it to anybody.  I think this would be a lovely safe place for families.

It was peaceful and quiet; a lovely place to wind down after a long time travelling and a long day working  Thank you

MAGICAL

Within walking distance of our b&b, this pub is a wonderful find. Perfect for a post-walk pint yesterday afternoon and then for a very satisfying dinner this evening. The barman is very friendly and accommodating, serving a great selection of local beers and cider. The restaurant, which only started serving food again on Thursday, is very good. We had garlic and chilli prawns to start, which were lovely, followed by vegetarian lasagne for my partner and mushroom tagliatelle for me. Both delicious. Service excellent. Portion sizes generous. All in all, a great little place.

Great pub and restaurant in Dartmoor

Beautiful area.Staff are very friendly and accomadating.Comfy bed and soft fluffy towels.Good breakfast.Good food.Would certainly reccomend.Hopefully will go back.It was very relaxing a very nice break at a very reasonable price.

Relaxing 4 days.

We had such a super time at the forest inn! It's in a really beautiful location with great views and a perfect place to relax after hiking. The room was super nice and clean. Food is good. Great trip and we will definitely come back when we aren't feeling camping

Beautiful place!

I stayed at the Forest Inn recently with my brother, and had an amazing time. This is a friendly little pub with rooms, and everything about it was first class.

The rooms are not the most up-to-date in the world in terms of decor, but the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. The shower could have done with more power, sure - but the hospitality tray had the most generous quantity of coffee, tea, and even hot chocolate that I’ve ever seen. I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time.

The owner and staff are super friendly and welcoming, the location is jaw dropping, and it was delightful to awaken to the sound of cows mooing in the nearby fields.

Breakfast was included, cereals and juice were available, along with porridge and a selection of hot breakfast dishes cooked fresh to order. The full english was thoroughly enjoyable.

We ate both nights in the restaurant, and had excellent meals. Liver and bacon, local burger, ham egg and chips, and rump steak - delicious, well cooked and hearty - and reasonably priced. There was a good range of choices including a specials board. Sunday’s is a carvery, although regrettably we’d left by then, or we’d have been up for that! 

The Forest Inn isn’t ‘flashy’ or ‘chic’. It is a friendly, honest, welcoming establishment and we were delighted with all aspects of our stay. We would both happily return
