Arrived to find the place closed with a message to ring for entry. Number was ring and each time the phone put down after establishing out names and booking. Suffice to say we didn't get in despite our reservation. We found out from another hotel owner in Hawick that the Hawick Hotel had recently gone bankrupt and there had been some dodgy dealings. I would not recommend this place at any cost AVOID!

AVOID - BANKRUPT 

AWFUL! Avoid this hotel at all costs! I booked this hotel for two of my engineers to stay in on a business trip. When they arrived at the hotel there was nobody there, it looked closed! Finally after an HOUR of waiting outside they got through to someone on the phone who came and let them into the hotel. They were told that their room wasnt ready and nobody was going to be sorting it for them either (this was at 6PM!). I had also booked two rooms but they had to share a room as that was all they had. No heating or hot water for them either. I tried calling the hotel the following day to complain (and to get some money back for the additional room i paid for but didnt get) but it is impossible to get through to anyone, the phone just cuts off. I should have read the previous reviews before booking this place, i can see this is par for the course for this hotel. Dont make the same mistake i did. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Absolute S***HOLE!!

Awful! 
I have stayed here several times in previous years and it has been great. 
It’s a shame because a lot of refurbishment has been done with new carpet, great heating and comfy beds but service needs zero stars.   
On arrival we were met with ‘You need to pay in cash cos the system is down’ 
The lovely bar /snug was shut down. 
Bathroom had broken tiles hanging off. 
1st day breakfast : no cereal, fruit etc
Bacon, sausage, beans and 3 fried eggs all of which must have been cooked 2 hours before we tried them.
Help yourself drinks. No marmalade or jam. 
2nd day breakfast : No cereal, fruit etc
3 rashers bacon, empty mushroom dish, same old fried eggs.   No butter or marmalade.  When we complained fresh bacon and mushrooms were prepared. 
Help yourself drinks with milk in shop cartons……etc

Awful!

When I arrived at the Teviotside I was greeted with a "for sale" sign and paint-buckets and no one there. With the help of a friend we managed to find out who the former owner was, and, as he was now co-owner of The Hawick Hotel, we could get a room there. He claimed that he had told Booking.com several times that he had sold the guest house. Unfortunately Booking.com had withdrawn the price for the 3 nights already the 21st of May whereas we were not arriving until the 26th. AND I have not been able to get my money back from Booking.com, as they claim that they have not been able to confirm that the place had been sold!

Difficult to rate as it had been sold!!! Awful experience!!!

One of us had a previous positive experience at this hotel a few years ago, which was the reason for booking it this time. We were on a visit to a family member, who is in poor health and visiting for the first time since Covid restrictions were lifted.

However there is now something afoot with this hotel. We were told that the former owner has passed it on to his daughter, who was absent throughout our four night stay. 

We aren't in the habit of posting poor reviews here and we always seek to say something positive. We found the hotel to be very clean and the bed linen and towels were all fresh. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. There is also a convenient car park at the rear and the hotel is centrally located. Sam who appeared to be trying to hold the show on the road was nothing less than apologetic and polite at all times.

However......

This was one of the weirdest hotel stays we have had in many a long year. Our suspicions should have been aroused when we booked the hotel direct and had a call three weeks before our stay asking us to pay up in full in advance.

On arrival, we were greeted in the car park by Sam, who said he had been there for only a few days himself. We found that the bar was closed and chained and padlocked due to "changing the licence".

As far as we could tell neither the front door or the back door to the car park were ever locked, so we didn't feel completely safe.

In the room we found we had no plug in the sink. The sash windows were stuck closed. The weather had cooled down by the time of our visit, but we could have done with some fresh air and the room (no 6) would have been insufferable in the recent heatwave.

At breakfast the following morning there was one gentleman wandering around taking tea and coffee orders, still in his puffa jacket. There were some self service cooked items on the hot range, but no cerals, juices, milk, yohurt offered. Our request for soya milk had been noted.

We sent Sam a text with a list of requirements for next morning and to be fair these items were provided the next day.

Our final evening was Sunday and we appeared to be the only people staying. We came down at 08:35 the next morning to find no-one around and no  breakfast laid out. The kitchen was deserted and no-one responded when we called out. The only thing missing was tumbleweed blowing around! We finished packing and loaded the car. Still no-one around. We ended up having breakfast in the Wetherspoons across the road before heading home. A reply to a request for a refund for our last night is awaited.

We wish Sam and the new owner the best of luck in getting this place straight - they are clearly going to need it.

Finding quality accommodation in Hawick has eluded us. If Premier Inn ever make the numbers work and open here they will clean up on present form.

To close on a positive note, we had some very good restaurant experiences in and around Hawick and will post some further reviews.

Hawick deserves better

This hotel accepted our booking via Hotels.com and it was still confirmed and prepaid up until arriving at the hotel. We were visiting from Australia and visiting relatives in Hawick, we rented a car in Edinburgh and drove there. We arrived early afternoon and found a handwritten note on the front door requesting guests to call a mobile phone on arrival. Whilst in the car park an employee arrived and said that he had no knowledge of our booking, I showed him my confirmation and he blamed Hotels.com booking system. After prolonged discussions with some “manager” on the phone he said that he would have to prepare a room as they were busy. We set off for a coffee advising that we would return later.Whilst at the coffee shop I received an email from the hotel (via hotel.com) advising that they were cancelling my booking due to a FLOOD at the hotel.We returned to the hotel where the same employee advised us that Hotel.com had double booked the room and therefore they couldn’t accommodate us. When questioned about the earlier advice that no booking had been received, he shuffled around embarrassingly, we then asked about the FLOOD he said that there had been no flood and we showed him the email. He blamed his manager who was not at the premises, we insisted on speaking with her however she was very evasive and unhelpful and continued to blame Hotels.com.We eventually gave up and left, we had to find a bed with our relatives and to be honest we were happy not to be staying

Avoid at all costs !

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.  There was no front desk and no "front desk staff" to greet me on arrival.  Someone eventually appeared but did not take my name and there was no check in (or check out) process.  The room was in an annexe in the car park and was small and very old fashioned.  There were flies in the room, debris in the kettle, a damp bathmat and a non-working bedside lamp.  It was barely clean.  There was no soundproofing and there was noise from other rooms late at night.  I would not recommend a stay in this hotel.

Checked in ok- was taken to room by a lady, nice enough, told breakfast times. Room 4 was at the front, roomy warm and clean. Bed linen good quality and nice pillows. No bedroom browser, no one around early evening so no internet info and no means to make a second drink. Cups odd sizes, one big, one a bit bigger than an egg cup. No biscuits. Paid a little over £80 for a Sunday night. Breakfast freshly cooked on cold plates. 2 choices of boxed cereal - OK if you like special K or coco pops and the dreaded Tupperware containers with cheap muesli and something else. 3 apples and 4 yoghurts displayed along with milk and orange juice. Coffee served in a teapot with ill fitting lid. No teaspoon. 
No one around to speak to when ready to leave so just left. 
Mobile number left taped to front door for late check- ins but no response from it re wi-fi access. 
Felt poor value for money and even poorer customer service and guest experience.

Clean but lacks personality

Was here on the 15th October for my dad's 80th, the staff were amazing went above and beyond to cater for everyone... Buffet was great, rooms were lovely spacious and clean.. Breakfast was also great.. If needed to use again definitely would 100% 🥰👍

We have given full stars because the host (fran or Fearn) was excellent. She has just taken over the hotel and we were able to sit with her outside for a few hours and her family were there, a very very great bunch of people. Very sociable and very relatable, doing an amazing job. At breakfast there was fresh fruit, mixtures of cakes and rolls, fry up was fantastic, fran is going through a hard time and it was lovely to hear from an open honest person that connects and values all guests, very chatty upbeat and very positive 
We would stay again not just for the room but the fantastic service that certainly makes all the difference
