Kenny and Belinda looked after me royally when I was trapped here during the flooding last year. Thanks to both of you. If you are in the area and looking for good quality, value for money accommodation with an excellent restaurant then look no further.

Stayed here 1st weekend of August.  Fantastic welcome from the owners and staff could not have been more helpful. My room no.7 was huge and beautifully decorated,bed was amazing very comfortable only downside no curtains only blinds. Every room is decorated tastefully and all are different. Beakfast was really good. We also had the Sunday carvery which was excellent and also very popular with locals.

A most warm welocme for guests

Excellent Hotel

Please note: I would have given this a 'good' rating but TA doesn't give me that option.  A charming little hotel. Strange entrance with reception tucked round a corner.  Floors seemed a little uneven throughout which added to the quirkiness of the place. Large parrot at the entrance that is a great feature as he looks splendid and is quite chatty. Owners' dogs wandering around freely adding to the relaxed feel of the place ( but no guest dogs policy-why?). Outside garden area is charming.  Room was ok. Little details missing eg no tumbler in bathroom which really annoyed me! Bathroom floor was very...lumpy' which didn't fit with the otherwise quite fancy decor. Tv was tiny and on other side of the room-no good for folks like me who are short sighted. Otherwise ok.   Breakfast was excellent and service was good-staff were v charming and chatty. Although a bit overpriced in my opinion, I would stay again.

Overnight at Black Beck

We were booked in here as a large group attending a golf competition at nearby Seascale Golf Club and were met at reception by very welcoming staff. The room itself was adequate but only one bath towel had been left for us which required a visit to reception (and the ringing of a buzzer on the desk when someone eventually appeared from out of the back). When we were about to go down for pre dinner drinks we noticed there was only one coffee mug had been left & following a further visit to reception (and the buzzer again) we were told to just collect one on the way back up - no thought of taking one up for us whilst we were at dinner. The evening meal was at best average although those in our party who had the liver said it was beautiful. The cooked breakfast the following day was good although the choice of cereals was very limited. The staff however were very friendly and tried hard to make you feel at home. However the hotel dog was allowed to roam the public rooms and in the morning the pet hen was strutting around reception and even had a cushion to sit on on the settee (clearly a very rural area). Whilst there are a very small number of hotels in the area I will not be returning here in 2017 when another such golf tournament is held at the venue.

Not quite Fawlty Towers

An extremely average hotel (even for a 3*) that I will not be staying in ever again. Before I mention the issues I will say the staff were friendly(ish) and the bed comfy. However, there were loads of problems with my stay that were entirely avoidable. On arrival I waited for nearly 15 minutes for someone to respond to the bell at reception (I had to wander around shouting before someone heard me, with no apology from staff when I eventually found them!), and generally the whole pace felt understaffed and quiet. The food at dinner was very boring and took 45 mins to arrive even though there was only myself and two other people eating in the restaurant. At breakfast no-one ever arrived to take my order so I had cereal and left after 20 minutes of waiting. The whole place feels run down, and any redecorating has been done very poorly and the finish is extremely sub-par (e.g. the silicon around the bath looked like it had been applied with a spade and was all over the tiles, and was going mouldy in places). The room was barely clean, and the mugs left with the kettle were so dirty inside I didn't dare use them. There was one of the owner's dogs barking at 10pm in a room next to mine (it clearly needed to loo), and no-one did anything about it for two hours - it started up again at 3am and no-one did anything about it! The advert on booking.com mentioned a shower, desk in the room, and a mountain view. None of these were present, and I ended up kneeling in the bath for a very low pressure luke-warm "shower", I had to borrow a desk from another room so I could work, and the "mountain view" was actually of the main road next to the hotel. Apparently the owners were on holiday, so maybe this explained the lack of attention from staff (and numbers). There are many other small but frustrating things that weren't great about my stay here, and it has left me feeling tired and stressed out ahead of an important client meeting. With some care and attention to detail, and maybe some more staff, this could be a great hotel and the location is brilliant for business trips to Sellafield, or holidays in the West Lakes. But as it is now I will absolutely not be coming back to stay, even it that means a longer journey for my business meetings in the area.
