Good clean decent bedroom with ensuite.Breakfasts outstanding. Staff very friendly and helpful. 
It is a pub and yes, you can hear the bass of the stereo in room 7 in the background but when we went in the week, it finished by 11pm and wasn't an issue. 
At the start of the week, there is a reduced menu - only pizzas. They are very tasty but I didn't want pizza 2 nights running - staff suggested another establishment ( The Crown) then rang up and reserved us a table. Very good service and yes, The Crown was good. 
We would be happy to stay there again - and would like to try more of the meals at the King  Alfred.

We stayed at the king Alfred as we had a wedding. The staff were lovely, they attended to everything we needed. We the shower was powerful and the room was immaculate. The breakfast was beautiful. I left my keys and they posted them to me. Amazing service. Would stay again for sure!

In the area to visit family we stayed for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend, check in was easy and the room was spacious and very clean, we booked a table for an evening meal for 5 people,  tye only disappointment being that my granddaughters churros were inedible being incredibly salty and on complaining I was told it was sugar, it was definitely salt, a quiet nights sleep  and a great breakfast,  bar reasonably priced with a decent selection

Met up with family and friends at King Alfred 02.03 24, some I haven’t seen for quite some time and looking forward to having a catch up and enjoying our meals, knowing the King Alfred had a good name for food.

Having to Pre-Order, which I found strange, due to being only 7 of us, its not Christmas and the table booked for 12, O’clock, therefore I expect the food on my plate to be correct when ordered. Having sat down for 10, maybe 15 minutes, the food arrived, I myself prefer to sit, chat, peruse the menu and then order.

I ordered the14oz Gammon, with Salt and Pepper Chips and Pepper Corn Sauce, different yes, but I do like pepper corn sauce. What arrived was standard chips and no sauce, yes the chips were chunky, delicious and homemade, but not Salt n Pepper, I highlighted this to the lady who served us, she took them away and within a minute my plate arrived to see the chips were the same but what appeared to be salt n pepper on them !, I know the difference between them, however, I let it go, didn’t want to embarrass the rest of the table, I waited a short while and still no pepper corn sauce, so I asked the question, they looked into it, 5 plus minutes passed by, half way through my meal, the sauce arrived in a small jug, what poured out was lukewarm cream with pepper corns added, no pepper bite, this would have been the end of my patience but I held my calm.

I ordered the Apple Crumble Cheese cake, looked lovely but had no taste, it was solid in texture as if unflavoured gelatin had been added.

The Gammon was lovely, the chips were delicious, homemade, the Pepper Corn sauce was poor and the Cheesecake was a total let down.

I have eaten at The King Alfred a few times previous and the food was lovely, more or less the same dish I pre-ordered, I would guess a new chef had arrived and I guess needs to be trained.

Lovely afternoon with friends and family, let down by the food

Stayed at the King Alfred’s for a couple of days it looks beautiful out side then you go in and are greeted with the beautiful staff ,took us up to our room which was excellent a beautiful view of the bay  went back down stairs for a drink and the staff took us round the hotel which was beautiful. The breakfast and evening meal was outstanding will be going back to King Alfred’s in March would just want to say a big thank you too all the staff x

Booked an evening meal for 4 on Sunday 29/10/23, was informed last sitting at 6.30pm.  Arrived in time & staff were not interested.... eventually was shown to our table. 
 Ordered 2 roast beef dinners, 1 fish & chips & 1 gammon, soft egg & chips.  The waitresses were lovely.  
The meals arrived, the roast dinners looked like a road accident, everything thrown on the plates, chunks of meat.  The whole presentation was dreadful. The egg with the gammon was hard, the waitress took the egg away & came back with 3 more, all hard, the gammon had been cooked to death.  The Fish was okish.  We had to ask for condiments & sauces as there was non on the table.
We had to re ordered our drinks, as they had forgotten about them.
I appreciate that in the Hospitality industry is very tiring, as I have done it myself, but from the 1st meal to the last should be treated the same high standard, with care & diligence.  I have never served a meal like a road accident or one that's been cooked to death!!!  If a chef can't fry a soft egg they shouldn't be in that job, even all 3 that came out afterwards were unpresentable & hard.  Even the elderly waitress could see it was all appalling.
I won't be recommending the King Alfred to anyone or go back - sad as I was there a year before & everything was lovely & well presented.


Sunday Evening Meal - Very disappointing & waste of money

Absolutely amazing  the staff where amazing the hotel was spotless and the food was excellent  the portion size was massive  beautiful full English  and the steak was to die for top marks for everything well done 👏

Had food at the King Alfred today after being recommended by a friend and we was so glad we went! Food was amazing and couldn't resist getting one of their cakes to go which was delicious! Prices are really good for the quality of food they serve. Highly recommend and I will definitely be visiting again soon! Thank you! 😊

Definitely worth the visit for food!

Excellent value hotel. Friendly efficient staff. Comfy bed in immaculately clean room. Breakfast and evening meals lovely. A great alternative to a chain hotel with personal touches. Location easy to find and although on busy road no problems with noise.
