Location can be the only issue, if you don't have a car and don't want to depend on taxis. On the other hand, beeing a bit (9 kms?) away from the center, turns this place very quiet, ideal for relaxing.
The hotel has 4, i think, two storey buildings, surrounded by very nice gardens.
Great big and deep swimming pool.
Rooms are classic decorated, with iold style furniture.
Great matress.
Small but ok toilet, with walk in shower.
Small tv with only one international channel.
Great breakfast, with western and asian dishes and all the other usual things, like bread (many options), fruit, coffee, milk, tea, hot chocolate, ordered made eggs, juices, etc.
Nice and not so expensive restautant by the river.
Discret and very friendly staff.

Great for relax

We stayed here as part of a Titan tour group.
There are no lifts to upstairs rooms (only ground and first floor) and rooms are set out in separate blocks.
The bedroom area was fine, comfortable and enough room. No English on the TV, a shame as we like to keep abreast of news when away from home. Beds are spacious but the sheet on one could have been cleaner as there were a couple of marks probably from insects.
The bathroom was a little tired, the bath had seen better days and the shower was a little weak in terms of flow. Plumbing is narrow and so toilet paper must be put in a bin and not down the toilet.
The restaurant is outdoor although covered by a roof, mosquitoes were a bit of a pest around the whole site but not as bad as we expected them to be. Breakfast selection is good although there was no gluten free bread, there was other food for coeliacs though such as eggs, fruit and yogurt etc. Although we didn't have an evening meal there we heard that the restaurant was cheap and very good, just as well as there is really no-where else to go.
Outdoor areas are lovely. Nice pool area and superb bar seating area overlooking the river. The hotel is in a good location within easy reach by car of the Kwai bridge etc.
However, we did not appreciate the checking out procedure where you are not allowed to leave before the rooms have been checked to make sure nothing is missing, even the car park has a barrier pulled across for this. I realsie why they do this but surely like any other hotel such tiny losses must be included in the pricing structure.

Nice hotel but could be better

We stayed as part of a tour. The room was very nice and comfortable. We had a really nice dinner on the water at the hotel. The staff was excellent for both the hotel and the restaurant. We had taken a two hour train ride ending at the Kwai bridge prior to check in and the hotel was very relaxing.

Nice Stay

I feel that my one night stay at this wonderful resort deserves a positive review as everything there exceeded my expectations and travellers really should give this resort a try.

As I was visiting Kanchanaburi to visit the famous 'Bridge on the River Kwai', the war graves and museums, and 'Hell Fire Pass' and so sought somewhere to stay overnight to break to my 3+ hour trip from Bangkok.

I booked directly with the hotel rather than through one of the booking companies. 

On arrival I was greeted by the friendly staff and check in was efficiently completed quickly. The room was clean and spacious with a firm but comfortable super-king bed, and balcony overlooking the tropical garden area.

The outside restaurant overlooked the river and jungle beyond, and served an delicious variety of Asian food and very reasonable prices. There was also a very talented solo guitarist playing for several hours during the evening which added to the ambiance. The staff were all friendly and efficient.

My nights sleep was very peaceful and relaxing and not a sound could be heard outside.

Breakfast consisted of a variety of Asian and Western choices and was included in the price of the stay.

Overall, I was delighted with my choice of hotel in this area and would thoroughly recommend it.

Peaceful and Relaxing Stay

As a family of 3 adults, we got a very nice corner room on the first floor, all great. The pool is absolutely fantastic as well as the location, beautiful setting on the edge of the river and very nice Restaurant for Dinner. Staff very friendly and great ambience. Even a ping pong table which we enjoyed a lot :))

Great choice, highly recommendable

After spending one night at this hotel on the banks of the Kwai River, I can say that it is very beautiful. The pool is very large and it is pleasant to swim there. The rooms and bedding are comfortable. I recommend staying at this hotel.

The frame and the pool are beautiful.

I was recently staying at the Royal River Kwai and unfortunately my experience at the reception seemed to be not meeting my expectations. As soon as we arrived, there was no one outside to welcome us, and we had to make a mistake on the road before someone came to help us. Furthermore, there was only one person to take care of our luggage, which was not enough given that we were five people. The lady at the reception seemed to be constantly upset and even raised a few voices to tell us where to go. Then it started to rain and the person who was loaded with suitcases was not able to take them to our rooms. We were desperate to change our suitcases, so we decided to make a decision to take care of ourselves at the time of the break, so we had to make sure that we hadn't had to make a lot of improvements under the rain, so when we first arrived at the hotel, we saw that it was a great experience and we were not able to make room in the hotel. However, we did not have a very comfortable room in the hotel, so we had to make room in the hotel, and the hotel was very comfortable.

Limited service.

In my view, this represents fantastic value for money. The rooms are well maintained and modern. The showers and bathroom are excellent. The staff are quite delightful and the food is more than adequate. I take issue with the family who were critical of the food. We have stayed for two nights and I have enjoyed very decent food on both nights. The swimming pool is magnificent and there is a most relaxing atmosphere to the whole hotel. In the evening, there is an open restaurant area literally above the bank of the River Kwai. Dining by the edge of this historical  river with a gentle breeze blowing is an outstanding experience. We paid around £60 per room and for this money it is excellent value. I suspect some other reviewers are a little unrealistic about what you can get for this price. I would certainly come here again.

For the price it could well be the best in the area

A nice hotel with a large swimming pool. We had dinner in the restaurant that has Michelin allures, but our experience was that it does not even the name snackbar. The problem is, that it is part of a resort, so you do not really have an alternative for diner. 
As a starter we had the fried loempia’s. I think they were already standing under a hot plate for a while. When we mentioned that to the waiter the brought them back to the kitchen. After a while we got them back like chewing gum. They fried them again. Every cook knows this does not work. As a main dish a had a tenderloin steak that was not hot and was more chewing gum. The mushroom were just cold. My wife had salmon that was cold and raw on the inside. This kitchen is a shame for every cook. I can only advice you to look for a different place for diner. The food is not only bad, but much to expensive for the quality offered. Stay away!!

Nice hotel but the restaurant is not worthwhile to visit

3 nights stay, small lunch and dinner taken at the restaurant A varied lunch with a very large selection of European and local products Very pleasant evening restaurant by the river, very well served cocktails, very good and very well presented places. Spacious room with balcony, classical bathroom with bathtub (small bemool on hot water pressure) Three clean and clean days without special demand.
