Princess Salme Inn is located conveniently near the ferry and is a short and pleasant walk to the Forodhani Night Market, Museum, and all the shops and restaurants of Stone Town.  The architecture and furniture are filled with wonderful details from Zanzibari history and culture, and we appreciated the air conditioning after hot days exploring.  The charming rooftop nook was a great place to have tea and breakfast in the morning and beer and softdrinks in the evening while catching a breeze.  The receptionist, Juma, was very helpful and assisted us with any questions we had and even helped us bring our bags to the ferry when we were leaving.  We felt very welcome.  It was a fantastic home base for exploring stone town and the price was incredibly reasonable.  We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Stone Town!

Zanzibari culture and charm for a great price

I recently spent just over two weeks at the Princess Salme Inn after last visiting there for three weeks in 2017.  It was just like coming home.  The staff are wonderfully warm and welcoming - they have become our friends, actually - and nothing is too much trouble for them.  The breakfasts are still excellent, and the rooms immaculately clean.  A TV has been added to the rooftop terrace since my last visit - whether you watch it is up to you.  Mostly the ever-changing view of the port from the roof is entertainment enough. This is a wonderful place to stay, and I can't wait to visit again.

Another wonderful stay

3 minutes from ferry. 7 minutes from night food market. 7 minutes from coastwalk way. Night food market over priced. Rediculous rip off. Eat at small businesses and always ask what will be on the plate.  They add more and don't say.

We have had an amazing stay here at this hotel. The place is so nice, the breakfast is tasty, and the staff is lovely people. We really enjoyed the rooftop and, the cosy and relaxing atmosphere here. It was very nice to stay here for some days: close to the city, the WiFi is good and the employees took really good care of us. This is a trip that we will never forget. Thank you so much!. 

Lovely stay, at this lovely hotel.

It seems this place has lost its glory with time. Now in very bad state. The Reception area is covered with dusts and a bygone era look. If you are looking for a cheap place and not bothering about other consideration, then only come here. Located in a byline and even the Board is not visible from Main Street (it took me quite a time to locate this place). Better to book hotel in Changing area or other side of the city.

Staff is extremely good especially the receptionist. Otherwise nothing much to talk about.Rooms are so basic..just opposite the main whole sale fish market5 mins away from the port to proceed to Dar as Salam

Stone Town Zanzibar

Princess Salme is very great place for the money and I will for sure come back. There were some issues with the A/C at night and regarding the heat of Stone Town, you want it working....
Rooms were clean and sprayed with mosquitoes repellent. 
I was welcome with a welcoming juice (which is more than tasty). I got sick on my 2nd day and Nema did her ginger/lemon juice to calm my stomach.
The two Getrude, Nema were very helpful and friendly.
I enjoyed my stay there and I recommend it

Nice place, friendly staff 

Room was basic but comfortable and everything we needed as a base to explore Stone Town. Good mosquito net too. Great views from the rooftop eating and relaxing area and the breakfast was excellent. 

The staff went out of their way to help my wife who was a little ill and made her stomach-friendly drinks. They also helped organise a trip to Prison Island.

It is quite hidden away and we were a bit unsure we were in the right place when we first arrived late at night! But it is actually only a few minutes to reach the buzzing sea front.
