Liyu Lake is a special spot in Shoufeng, near Hualien, and Lakeside 46 makes the most of its location, with views from the front of the guesthouse looking out over the lake to the mountains beyond. Our room on the second floor had floor to ceiling windows and we could step out onto a large terrace to enjoy the scenery. The windows were well insulated against any sound from the road that runs by the hotel, so we slept in great comfort. We awoke to a lovely breakfast of fresh fruit, delicious little sandwiches, and red beans in soy milk. One morning, they accommodated our schedule by offering breakfast a bit earlier than usual. It was a perfect base for taking a walk around the lake (and we saw others cycling and others rowing), and going for dinner at a lakeside restaurant. We were close by National Dong Hwa University (NDHU), which we visited. When it was time for us to go, the manager arranged a taxi for us to the Hualien train station. We were received with courtesy and attention, and stayed for two nights. Everything was lovely!
