This review is long over due but staying in this homestay has been the most relaxing trip Ive ever been. Initially planned to go to Alishan alone but instead went there with my mother and she loved it so much. I live the relaxing atmosphere of the homestay, and how it gives you a sense of calmness once you stepped into the place. I love sitting over the garden and overlooking the view of the mountains especially during the sunset (haven't seen the sunrise because my mom and I were so relaxed we kept on sleeping in). 

We love the food served during breakfast so much that we didn't even realise that it was all vegetarian. The caretaker, being Filipina as well, explained that the owners are vegetarian which explaines the menu. Either way, it was so good and we have a very fulfilling meal before we set off to Alishan mountain for the sunrise. 

Another highlight of our stay were the fruit platter and tea that they would serve. My mother and I looked forward to it so much that before we left for Taiwan, my mither bought the same exact tea pot and cups as well as the Plum powder that goes so well with the fruits.and ever since then, she would have a fruit platter and tea each afternoon. 

The staffs are were all very hospitable and really took care of us. When my mother and I went to the nearby village to have a late lunch and we realised that there is no more bus going back to the hostel, we called the homestay and one of their staff ( I cant remember the name, a male staff) came with a car and drove us back to our homestay. Another staff, their caretaker, a Filipina having found out that were Filipinos as well were excited as she said Filipinos don't usually visit Alishan. So because if that she would always come and have a chat with my mom and I. And I dont know if it is deliberate but on our first night as I was taking a shower, I brought in my lavender body was. And when we came back the next day after spending the whole day at the Alishan Mountain, when my mom requested for the fruit platter and tea (she really lives it!), they served us with lavender tea together with the fruit platter. If it is deliberate, I love them even more as they take notes on these minute details.

All in all it was the most therapeutic stay ever. If ever the covid situation is finished, I would love to come back to Alishan Lauya and stay longer (we only stayed for 3D2N). Hang in there Alishan Lauya Homestay!

The most relaxing trip!

Alishan Lauya Homestay is located about thirty kilometers from Alishan Scenic Area in a small valley.
It is a place with a very charming decoration in which one feels immediately well. The rooms were very clean, quiet and have all the necessary comfort. In front of the bedrooms, there was a very large terrace with a fantastic view of the mountains. We stayed long moments to enthuse us in front of this extraordinary decor.
The other favorite of this place was the very warm welcome of the host. Before and during our stay, the owner was very pampered for us, telling us how to come, where to eat or what to visit ..
Not far from the homestay, there is a tea factory and a bamboo trail that you must visit.

Definitely, Laura Homestay is a great place to stay !

Charming place with a fantastic view

This place is really special. Nestled into the Alishan region, surrounded by tea fields and stunning mountain vistas, it is a utopia of gardens and kind hospitality. We loved our stay, and found it to be a charming accommodation close enough to the Alishan Recreational Area to enjoy a day of hiking while also having a restful and welcoming place to return to afterwards. The small details are delightful, such as ceramic jars filled with fresh flower buds on your afternoon/evening tray of herbal tea and fresh fruit. The gardens are lovingly tended, and extraordinary plants grow everywhere. Breakfast is delicious and includes a scrumptious variety of foods, including their own lemon marmalade.

Our room, 103, was comfortable and had everything we needed. The shower had lots of hot water, which was greatly appreciated on a day we got caught in the rain. The room had a comfortable bed, hairdryer, and TV. Two water bottles were left each day when the room was serviced, and hot/cold water is always available in the main building.

Our hosts were lovely and helped us navigate the buses, drove us to dinner, and assisted us with any questions we had. This was very much appreciated because the homestay is removed from the surrounding towns.

We did get to see the “sea clouds” from their amazing deck; what a sight! The views are spectacular; you could spend hours watching the interplay of light on the mountains. And their dogs and cats are precious.

Beautiful and restful 

Epic views. Our room was perched overlooking the mountains. Amazing stargazing opportunities at night. Room was cozy. We emptied the dehumidifier 2x a day and ran the fan to keep cool. TV was slow and did not load the picture well, which was ok because we came to be in nature and disconnect! Nice shower - great water pressure and got very warm after it warmed up. We loved afternoon tea. The fresh fruit was delightful after a long day! Both my husband, my aunt and myself were all bitten by leeches while hiking and exploring nearby the lodge so I recommend closed toed shoes and bug spray! Overall I highly recommend this place. I do believe they could improve on email communication, as we had some unanswered emails/questions that we could only confirm upon checkin, but overall great stay and one of a kind location.

Don’t Miss the Epic Views & Starry Skies of Luaya!

Extremely beautiful homestay in very relaxing surroundings. The homestay is clean, very green, and the rooms are cosy and comfortable. The 'Economy' rooms are still a good size and have all the amenities you need and the bathrooms are perfectly fine unless you are a giant (I am 5'11), with a great shower. 

The staff are very welcoming and will drive you to dinner nearby and pick you up again. The breakfast they provide is delicious. Congee, vegetables, dim sum and toast as well as tea and coffee are available and all taste great. In the afternoon they provide tea and fruit - if the weather is nice, you can have this on the terrace, with amazing views of the surrounding area.

The location is good. It is not in Alishan Scenic Area directly, but the bus from Chiayi to Alishan stops just outside and is fairly frequent ( although you may want to plan ahead of you don't want to wait too long).

Stunning scenery and beautiful rooms

We stayed in the Superior Twin room on the second floor. Be sure to  read the description carefully as we didn’t. It is a struggle to carry big luggage up and down the stairs. We didn’t realize that single latex mattress meant exactly that - it is a mattress on the floor. After a few minutes you feel the fact that you’re sleeping on the floor- it was truly uncomfortable if you prefer soft beds. The very small bathroom is exactly that. The handheld shower head is attached to the sink. So you shower in the sink and toilet area and everything gets wet. This is not the place for us but if you know what you’re getting then you should be fine. I didn’t like sleeping on the floor when the website mentioned cockroaches, bugs etc. Breakfast was simple but tasty. 

View over comfort

The stay here was amazing! The homestay was so lovingly and thoughtfully designed! I loved everything, from the interior design to the architectural design of the building which melded in perfectly with the natural surroundings. 
The hosts were very homely and welcoming and ensured that our stay was comfortable. Our hosts provided us with a lot of ideas on what to do during our stay here, recommending routes to walk, places to eat, places to visit, et cetera, they even helped us to connect our travel in and out of Alishan (including teaching us how to re-arrange our high speed rail bookings at no extra charge). Although we did not come with a car, there was no cause for worry because our hosts went out of their way to send us or pick us up from dinner, even making a detour to let us watch a beautiful 7-colour sunset from a lookout point. 
The hosts are very friendly and have good-natured pets (border collies and cats that co-exist very peacefully) that up the warmth level of the homestay. They also have a very beautiful garden and a huge viewing deck overlooking the mountain range to rest and relax in. 
The breakfast was excellent! They said it would be a simple and vegetarian breakfast, but the spread far exceeded our expectations. We had porridge with a wide variety of condiments to choose from. There were dumplings and buns. Also, there was toasted bread with a good variety of spreads, including their own hand-made hand-grown lime jam and the matcha spread, both of which were super delicious!! They also prepared complimentary afternoon tea / supper (depending on when you take it) with a different range of fruits each day. I tried so many different home-made organic teas during my stay here, including lavender tea, mint tea and tea made from crushed pine leaves! I felt so nourished and healed in my stay here (:

Great hospitality, amazing views, comfortable stay

Solo traveler/ Stayed at Alishan Lauya Homestay in Jan 2019 for 4D3N and regretted not staying longer. It was peaceful and quiet, very calm and zen with the occasional scampering of the furry residents. 

Minsu: The entire minsu is thoughtfully and beautifully decorated - lovely garden, fantastic view off the deck. It's a hidden oasis where you can slow down and smell the roses.  

Everyday there's afternoon tea with fruits so if the weather is good, do have it on the outdoor patio (you can also have it in your room).  They are many spots in the Minsu where you can leisurely admire the wondrous view and literally watch the clouds roll by + star gaze.

Minsu owner + staff are warm and genuine. They generously share info about the area, suggest possible routes, and take care of you like family.  I missed seeing the sunset and the minsu owner specially brought me to see when there's a good one!  

Room/ Meals: 
I stayed in a twin room (tatami style) with floor to ceiling windows/door featuring an unobstructed view facing the mountains - outstanding! Love the cozy feel of the room. It was winter time so I am thankful for the electric blanket + dehumidifier <3 

Water pressure and water heat is good and consistent (which is critical in winter time). Be prepared for a small shower area (think Japan). 

Only breakfast and afternoon tea are provided in the Minsu.  During lunch and dinner hours, they will drive you to the nearby area where there’s a variety of F&B and supermarkets.  Once you are done, contact them and they will come fetch you.  Do buy some bread or nibbles if you are the snack-ish sort.

Location:  It is a little out of the way but still easy to access as it is just next to ShangHudi bus stop.  You can also opt for a car transfer from FenQiHu.  

Note best:  Their Mandarin FAQ on the website is very comprehensive.  Do read up and truly, what’s there is 90% of what you want to know.   There’s always Google Translate. 

Final comment: If you want to be away touristy spots, this is it!  I would really recommend setting aside at least two nights just exploring the area around the Minsu to truly relax and enjoy a well deserved, quality stay. There are good walks and sunset views to be admired around the immediate area.  Head there before early 2020!
