My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights while backpacking through Europe. We booked a double bed room last minute at an amazing price. Our trains came in very late, but the room was waiting for us when we arrived without issue. The concierge services were excellent and the staff was very personable! She helped us plan our hiking route to the smallest detail and it turned into a perfect experience.

If you're looking for basic amenities, a clean building, a quiet room, and a breathtaking view of Matterhorn, do not hesitate to book here. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend to a friend.

Hidden Treasure

We stayed here for a night when hiking around the Zermatt area and had a pleasant stay. I booked the slightly more expensive (+~20chf) Matterhorn view room and was not disappointed. We had a huge balcony that extended around 2 sides of the large room, and gave us a pretty undisturbed view (1 building in the near foreground) due to the hotels location on the outskirts of town.
Staff were really friendly and hospitable. N.B. check-in was self-service when the staff were away: i.e. names of arrivals that day, and take your key to your room.
Be aware that the hotel's location means a fair walk (~15mins) from the station, though you can ride one of Zermatt's expensive electric taxis.
Overall - great base to go hiking and explore the area. You're a 2-3 minwalk from the cable car station up to Furi (and from there up to the Matterhorn + elsewhere)

Nice little family hotel, on the quiet outskirts of town

This hotel did not live up to expectations. My boyfriend and I came to Zermatt on holiday, looking to enjoy a cozy stay with views of the Matterhorn. I suppose it was our fault for visiting during the off-season (we arrived in early May), but the entire experience was awful. First of all, the hotel is a far walk from the center of town -- about 25 minutes on a steep uphill, which is made worse with luggage. When we arrived, there was nobody at reception to check us in. It was self check-in, and the lobby was completely deserted. We arrived to a tiny room that reeked of cigarettes, with no view of the Matterhorn (instead, we had a view of the property next door), and amenities that can best be compared to a Motel 6. Luckily, when we called the number provided, we got moved into a better, smoke-free room. However, this room had slanted ceilings that seemed charming, but ended up being wildly inconvenient. We had to shower in a squatting position so as to avoid hitting our heads (I'm 5'7'' and it was even a problem for me). Again, just a less-than-spectacular view of the property next door, with no Matterhorn view and no balcony. This room didn't even have a TV. The 15CHF breakfast was cereal and toast. The worst part, however, was check out. At check out, the receptionist (this time there was one, this was the first time we'd seen someone at reception all weekend) tried to charge me again for the stay, and I had to show her my bank statement proving I'd already paid (she spoke no English -- I know we were in Switzerland and thus it was unreasonable to expect English to be spoken everywhere, but you would think a hotel receptionist would know at least a little English to get by). Then, we asked her to call us a cab so we could catch our train. She told us it would arrive in 10 minutes, which was fine -- we gave ourselves 40 minutes to get to the train station. Well, 10 minutes passed, and then 15. We checked in with her, and she assured us it was coming. Another 10 minutes passed. She again told us it was on its way. At this point, we had to get going. We started our walk into town, with all our luggage. The owner of the hotel was arriving at the hotel in a golf cart for breakfast, so we asked him if he could give us a ride to the train station. He told us the golf cart was almost out of gas, and offered no assistance or solutions. Just shrugged and said sorry. After another few minutes waiting for the taxi, my boyfriend walked into the hotel and begged him to drive us in the golf cart. His urgent tone must have worked, because the golf cart miraculously had enough gas to drive us into town suddenly? Then, just as we were taking off, the taxi arrived. The owner of the hotel shoved our bags into the taxi and sent us off without an apology or a smile. He didn't pay for the taxi... nothing. We nearly missed our train. It was a disastrous experience and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Way overpriced. Pay the extra few dollars to stay somewhere nicer.

Off-Season Disaster

As Canadians, we have had winter vacations in Quebec, Ontario, BC, and stateside.  We used Trip Advisor to start the process of picking this hotel for this international snowboard trip.  Location, view and price made the week long stay good. Yes, it's simple and basic. Priced right, fair and easy to work with owner who is available but not always seen..... and did I mention the spectacular view of the Matterhorn;) 

First trip overseas snowboarding 

Our room faced South and had a stellar view of the Matterhorn.  The hotel overall has a late 70s early 80s look and feel, and is due for an update.  Our room was spacious and afforded an acceptable level of comfort.  The carpet was several years overdue for a steam clean.  We arrived on a Sunday night.  There wasn't anyone around to check us in; only a sign with my name and room number on it welcoming me to the hotel and advising me to contact hotel staff using the WhatsApp if there were any issues.  I had to scavenge through a pile of about 20 keys to find my room key.  We appeared to be the only ones in the hotel that night.  It was a little bit unsettling as you are fairly secluded from everything in Zermatt. The main entrance is at the bottom of a very steep hill so you are not even on "street level".  Taxis will not go down this hill at night.  As more guests arrived later in the week, noise levels increased with slamming doors and footsteps in the hallways, which is to be expected in a wood frame construction builidng.  For the most part, all guests were respectful during silent hours.

I found the beds to be very uncomfortable and unsupportive.  I had a sore back by the end of the week.

Breakfast was terrible.  Absolutely the worst selection of sliced meats, some of which had turned.  Poor variety of bread and other breakfast items.  Having stayed at other  Swiss and Southern German hotels I expected a lot more. For our remaining four  days we either went to the Coop (grocery store) - which had all the Swiss foods we love - and bought our breakfast items or found a baeckerei (bakery) and grabbed a breakfast sandwich for the ride up on the ski lift.  Keep in mind that both of these options require at least a 1000m walk from the hotel up and down a very steep hill.  I recommend picking up you provisions once you get off the train from Täsch and bring it with you before getting in your taxi to go to the hotel.  

Tip for skiers:  You can rent lockers for your skis and boots at the Matterhorn Express lift.  If you are skiing multiple days, lock your skis and boot up at the lift and leave them there overnight, allowing you to walk up the steep hill in your normal shoes. 2 Francs for each set of skis and 2 for boots.

Buses are free of charge in Zermatt.  Use them or pay through the nose for taxis.
