Hotel owner was at train station and told about his hotel and promised to transport us there to have a look. We got good price for two triple rooms: 2500 each. Rooms were in second floor and newely renowated and nice with good balcony views. No a/c, but it was good temperature anyhow and shower had warm water. Internet worked excelently but was not accessible from room, just from the balcony outside. Location close to the train station was excelent for us. Trains and dogs were a bit noisy in the night.

The rooms had a no views but mosquito infested spider webs and dust. Blood sucking bugs in bed/mattress propping up and mosquitoes. No room cleaning every day even after placing request. Our bins were getting full with baby nappies, food & stuff. Though keys were handed over, they did not bother to clean or clear them. The bathroom was disgusting and mouldy. Neither tissue rolls or toiletries replaced. Intermittent internet  available only in some areas eg.. Lobby. 4G internet only, no broadband. 

It’s not guarantee that we will get the same room which is on display online. Dogs inside the hotel compound and gang of street dogs around the corner. One of the guest was bitten by a dog during our stay on 21st Feb 2017. We were horrified when the manager/owner said not to worry it is just a family dog. 

A steep uphill and a steep downhill to reach the compound even tuk-tuk's struggle to climb. At any time of the day you have to dread the pack of dogs to reach any shop or restaurant. At night (around 7pm) it was quiet and dark ruled dog gangs. We did not feel safe at all. It was pitch black and had a terrible vibe. No stores any were near to the hotel and nothing to eat out. You had to walk to the other side of train station to find food to eat. Website claims 24x7 hotel reception. Not true… It shuts around 10:30pm and everything around the compound gets dark. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The worst we have ever been

This is a nice little quiet Hotel with lots of space , nice friendly staff and very clean. We were travelling as a group of 10 - so being able to be close together was brilliant. A little kitchen made the odd cuppa simple. The monkeys coming down first thing was fun dawn chorus- maybe the builders could start a little later than 8.30 am ? Highly recommend this place - was a good price too

Lovely Place

I don't have enough words to describe how awesome the Hotel Kandy is. They're very friendly and kind. They went out of their way to help us with every thing. The hotel is very affordable and good price for our stay. The hotel is a 10 mins walk distance to down town about  800 meters and very close to the bus station and rail station. The hotel is safe and quite. They also offer a free shuttle to the air port.  Me and my friend highly recommend this hotel. Thank you so much Chanda and Benni for your great hospitably. We'll come again when we visit Sri lanka! :)

The hotel Kandy is the best hotel in Sri Lanka

Ok.. where do i start..
Stayed at the station a man confronted me of this hotel and showed me a brochure and it looked good.
Got there after a few steep hills.
Showed me one room full of spider webs, dirty and bed sunked in the middle. I said no..
So they showed me another room. Which was a little better. By then i was tired after 7 hours on the train so i took it.
Then needed wifi and they had one router that didn't reach all the rooms so when someone needed to use it they would move it towards their room so its cuts you out.
Annoying to say the least.
The floor was full of dust.
The bathroom was disgusting and mouldy
The room had a little view but mosquito infested.
The towels were torn and old.
Sheets were not washed.
I aak the guy was the room cleaned. He said yes.. yet there were loose tobacco on the bench.
At night it was quiet and dark walking back. 
People harassing you along the way. I don't think its safe at all.
It was pitch black and had a terrible vibe.
Close to the station yes.. but you had to walk to the other side to find food to eat.
I would recommend this place to anyone.
If you're coming out of the train station. I suggest to book something on the left side where there are things to do. Lots of cafes. Unless the right side that was like a dead city.
