Lovely three bedroomed villa with a small infinity pool. Situated away from the city facing a paddy field in the midst of greenery. Its very calm and you can see small birds, monkeys around the property. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. Absolutely love the decor. The caretaker was very nice and really helpful. the pool was clean.
If you provide rations for food they will cook for you and charge a fee. We had our meals from outside as we felt it is easier for us as we were a small group.

Private villa

We remembered Galle as a smaller place and thankfully we booked Kalahe House just outside Galle -  a beautiful villa in the rice fields.   It was so gentle and relaxing and yet still allowed you to visit Galle in 12 minutes.  Prasanga the houseboy and his wife cooked us wonderful curries and we slept soundly in the really good beds.   They have just put in a infinity swimming pool that overhangs the rice fields.   My brother in law said he just didn't need to leave the villa.  Would highly recommend this spot.

Beautiful calm spot just outside Galle in a charming villa

Wow, what a way to finish our family holiday. This place is a little gem, off the beaten path and set in amongst the trees and greenery. We had monkeys nearby, a night sky full of fireflies, we saw snakes in the trees, squirrels, bats and plenty of interesting birds. This house has a very nice feel about it - it’s tranquil and relaxing - surrounded by nature and wildlife. There are only three rooms and my family and I had two of them with no one else in the third so we had the entire place to ourselves. The decoration is tasteful, simple but top quality traditional styled items. We felt truely at home and it’s the sort of house we’d love to own! We had dinner here and were served a delicious traditional Sri Lankan curry with rice, dahl and vegetables. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the two managers/hosts (a married local couple) couldn’t have been more lovely. They have other staff on site too who helped us look for wildlife in the trees and bushes (with the help of the very handy google translate!) and they opened up coconuts for us to drink too. We were provided with fresh towels every time we went swimming which was an excellent touch. The rooms were made up like new each morning with clean towels, soaps and bedding. The rooms are large and comfortable - excellent mattress and good sized beds. The swimming pool absolutely makes this place - it’s the perfect size and the perfect temperature and depth. We were in and out the pool the entire time, between reading and sunbathing. The hosts gave us plenty of space and privacy but were there if needed. The wifi connection was good. Unfortunately the ACs didn’t work while we were there but this was the only downside. We still thoroughly enjoyed this place despite struggling through the heat and power cuts. The communication was also excellent from the manager who helped us with transport and local advice (like where to get some beer!). The only other comment would be that the photos don’t do this place justice and I’d suggest updating them. Just as a thought I think having breakfast included would top it off as a package as most hotels seem to do this (we’ve been traveling for 7 months and ‘breakfast included’ is often at the top of our list when choosing accomodation as it means we can save on lunch and have an early dinner! :) but overall we truely loved Kalahe House and thank you for our stay. 

Absolutely brilliant - highly recommend!

Kalahe House is a luxurious retreat with a beautiful view of rice paddies. The staff are amazing, the food wonderful, and it is only a short tuk tuk ride to either the stunning beaches of Unawatuna or the historic (and very cool) fort town of Galle. It was an absolute treat.

A perfect retreat to relax and rejuvenate.

I was lucky enough to stay at Kalahe House while I attended the Galle Literary Festival. 
It was so peaceful and relaxing- would go back in a heartbeat. 
We were looked after so well by Kalahe House staff and the meals, massages and manicure/pedicure were all fantastic. 
The building was colonial in style and the rooms, all with ensuites were decorated accordingly. The beds were very comfortable. 
The tropical surroundings were beautiful and we even saw the occasional monkey swinging in the trees. 
Galle itself exceeded my expectations- a charming spot with beautiful buildings, great food and lovely sandy beaches. 

Go soon and enjoy Kalahe House and the beauties of Galle and Sri Lanka.

Great holiday at Kalahe House in Galle

We booked 5 nights on the strength of the good reviews, not knowing what to expect. If you want peace and quiet in a most beautiful rural setting but still only a 15 minute tuk-tuk ride from the bustle of Galle town and historic Fort area, and the busy popular sandy beach at Unawatuna, this is the place for you. I wondered about where to go for dinner as Kalahe House is not close to a choice of restaurants. Didn't need to worry though as Dileepa the manager, as well as being a charming and helpful English speaking young man, is a really excellent chef. Every night he prepared a different but wonderful dinner. No exaggeration to say it was some of the best Sri Lanka food I've ever tasted. 

The room we had was simply, but nicely furnished, a large 4 poster double bed with the mosquito net over and, for all our electrical bits and pieces and chargers, enough power points ( not always the case). The bathroom, like the bedroom, was spacious and well appointed.  The a/c was powerful (and necessary!).

The main living/dining room is beautifully arranged, cool and airy, and just a heavenly room to have breakfast in with all the mahogany louvre doors open and the views across the paddy fields and forest beyond. There is a great variety of colourful bird life, including peacocks, so my advice would be to pack binoculars. Monkeys also visited most mornings.

Dileepa is assisted by 'Uncle' who lives on site and, though his English is limited, will go out of his way to help any way he can. His friendly dog Colu likes to meet visitors too!

Of all the places we stayed at during our longish holiday in Sri Lanka Kalahe House stands head and shoulders above the rest. We really felt like millionaires up there in the seclusion and peace with our own staff to hand.
