Hotel Jorge I

Stayed for 7 nights, booked through Travel Republic and booked my flights through Ryanair. Half board, so breakfast and lunch were included. Breakfast was breads, croissants, hams, cheese, cold boiled eggs, cerial, orange juice, hot drinks, fruit, jams, constantly replenished as things ran out. I only had lunch 3 days, and it was acceptable and abundant. A plate of salad, followed by 2 courses such as paella or pasta with meat, then fish (deep fried or in tomato sauce) or pork ribs, then fruit or cake, and tea or coffee. I found the hotel staff to be pleasant. Always a smile and a 'hola' when I passed reception, and the restaurant staff and cleaner were all pleasant too. My room had a (slightly squeaky) double bed and a single in it, so was big enough. The bathroom was fine. Air-con worked effectively, as it was 30° outside. Hot water every morning for a shower. Didn't use the TV in the room or Wi-Fi, as I'd downloaded a number of films from Amazon before I left home. I heard very little noise from other rooms, except on my last night, when some guy seemed to be banging about a bit and talking loudly, before they went out. The pillows were not great. Certainly no fluffy hotel pillows here, sadly. The tram stop is 5 minutes walk up the hill. Supermarket is 5 minutes down and to the right. Big Lidl further along. I visited Benidorm twice, using the tram, but found it too crowded and too hot (33°). Also visited Alicante on the tram. It's so cheap, it's amazing value. I enjoyed my stay at the Jorge I Hotel. I would stay again. Only little niggle is lack of outside space to sit with a drink. The rooftop 'pool' area is not that pleasant. However I was spoiled for choice 5 minutes away on the promenade, with wine from €1.60 to €2 per copa and cheap tapas and pizzas. Happy days!
