Juan and layla are the most friendly and lovely hosts you could ever wish to meet. This place is a real gem. Forget the rat race and just relax in idyllic surroundings. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys. We will definitely be going back . Beautiful old world charm .Thank you guys 😁

what a place, it simply took our breath away, the rooms are stunning with a private pool, bar and quirky vintage rooms. We stopped over as we was dining at the gorgeous santa maria Michelin star restaurant... the owner of the rooms Juan was just the nicest guy nothing was too much trouble... very romantic place if you want to impress the wife!

Absolutely idyllic

We stayed here for two nights, and had the best sleeps of the entire holiday wondering around both Fuerteventura and Lanzarote! The rooms are all quirky, as are the common areas, either the open courtyard, or the 2/3 rooms, be they a dining room, a music room or a charming old fashioned bar. Laila and Juan are consummate hosts, discreet but helpful. It is a very laid back small inn, so do not expect anything like you would get in any of the coastal resorts. Yes... the hotel offers a limited dinner menu, and as it is the only place in the whole village that stays open after 5, you either go for it, or eat a big lunch! There is good WiFi cover, and a lovely plunge pool to relax by. We both enjoyed it thoroughly, and if you like getting off the beaten track, then you will too. 

Out of the Ordinary... 

The Casa Princess Arminda is located directly above the main square in Betancuria. Location is amazing! The owner was born in the original house and after many years abroad has returned to his hometown and created an amazing boutique hotel. We stayed for 2 evenings and we felt so comfortable here. The room was super cozy and unbelievably quiet! The last sound you will hear is the church bell ring at 10pm and then no sound until a single bell at 7:30am. We stayed in November and the evenings can feel cool, the room had several blankets to keep us warm. Our hosts made us feel incredibly comfortable in the space. Breakfast can be served in the beautiful courtyard or in a small diningroom depending on weather. They also have a menu for dinner (we ate at hotel both nights and food was delicious). It turns out that the owner lived in our hometown in Canada for 20 years so we had an instant bond and an unforgettable experience.

Home away from home

Phenomenally helpful & friendly host, Juan Dumpierrez. Not only did he find our friends an extra room in Betancuria when his Casa was full, but he also travelled to & arranged lodging for all 4 of us in the preceding town on our hike across Fuerteventura. Way way over & above what we might have expected from an inn proprietor.  All done via promptly answered emails & phone calls.  His English was good, as he lived 29yrs in Toronto he told us.
Once here we found our room & the Casa’s main rooms (2 bars & 2 dining areas) clean & functioning, full of fascinating historical curios & all had considerable charm,  The whole Casa complex is in a restored 14th century building in tune with & in the centre of the historical old capital, Betancuria.
Nothing was too much trouble for Juan & his colleagues.  They served us drinks & food all evening. The menu was hearty, Canarian & tasty.  It was particularly excellent that they served food in the evening (to residents) as all of Betamcuria’s restaurants & cafes close at 6pm because the majority of the visitors to the village only come in daytime.
All in all the perfect stop in rural central Fuerteventura.

Walking holiday

We spent 6 nights at CPA and everyone was a treat, Juan who has been instrumental in rebuilding CPA, now that's a chap with a personality, we arrived late he meet us with beer and cheese.We stayed in the Jnr suite, a really nice room with loads of charisma, being in Betancuria its a must to have a car, but the rest of the Island is easily accessed from Betancuria.So if looking for somewhere less than ordinary that's got charm and a bucket load of atmosphere you could a lot worse than Casa Princess Arminda..PS do not try and out drink Juan.

Lovely Gem

Not that there are many choice of where to stay in Betancuria but this place is just perfect. Its not fancy, its rural, with rooms set around a courtyard in a restored villa. My partner learned from the owner that when he took it on, it was pretty much a complete ruin - what a project to restore this place - its beautiful - so much history.
Our room was simple but great - the bed was comfortable, the room, thanks to its thick walls was cool - which was very welcome.

My partner had some work to do, so later on in the evening, I went to the bar area for a glass of wine. The owner opened a fresh bottle of Rioja (I think it was a Crianza) and left me with the bottle, saying he would charge me for whatever I had drunk, the following day - a lovely, personal touch. 

As much as this is a great place to stay, I have brought various friends and family members here when we visit Betancuria during the day and every time have found the service lacking. 
2 weeks ago, with family, we were turned away as they weren´t open for another 10 minutes. (Why not just ask us to take a seat and explain that she couldn´t serve us for 10 mins - its not like we can´t speak Spanish, so language wasn´t an issue.) What made it more confusing is that there were a group of 6 or so Germans who had been served with soft drinks. Its such a shame, as this hasn´t been a one off experience.... 

In summary - great as a hotel in such a lovely town - but very let down in the day time by lacklustre service which if corrected, could make this THE place to go when in Betancuria!

Quaint

I have just spent 5 days at Casa Princess Arminda. The setting is lovingly restored  with modern amenities while retaining it's historical integrity.  The new chef is fabulous! This is definitely not a 5 star experience but if you're looking for authentic charm, search no further.

Quaint, authentic  villa with charm

We did a fabulous trek across the hills from Antigua to Betancuria last week and decided to stay in Betancuria for the night. Unfortunately Casa Princess was full but the staff rang around and located a perfect place run by Tomas, That night the town closed down! But we did have beers in the Casa Princess in a cosy little bar with a very friendly hostess and residents. They all liked the place!

A short  visit to Casa Princess Arminda

We were so excited to have 'discovered' this beautiful, secluded, rustic restaurant... we hadn't seen the previous reviews.  However, our hopes began to  fade as the young waitress - who obviously didn't want to be there - ignored us and some considerable time later 'SLAPPED' a menu on our table.  We should have followed our instinct and left then but influenced by the lovely surroundings we enthusiastically placed our order in beginners Spanish:  small beer, glass of white wine together with garlic prawns, Canadian potatoes and goat's cheese and chorizo sausage with potato salad.  More than half an hour later a small dish of the smallest prawns ever,  floating in oil, were delivered to the table (my husband's order) and I was told that mine would be a couple of minutes 🙃... 10 minutes later we asked if my dish was coming... 'yes... coming' was the reply.  My husband explained that we would have liked to eat together.. and asked again for the bread.  I was a little puzzled as to why cheese and sausage could take so long but anticipated a very special dish 😊.  When it came it was a plate of 'plastic' meat with tasteless cheese triangles. A couple of dried olives sat on a mound of 'potato salad' reminiscent of .... !?*!! ..which was inedible.  For this pleasure we were charged an extortionate 30 euro!!  We paid and left as quickly as possible - our visit to Betancuria forever tainted.

It is such a shame that this beautiful village and perfect location is being spoiled by this poor imitation of a restaurant.  

The only way we can influence this is to vote with our feet .... perhaps then they will look at what they are offering 🤞
