Spent once again three nights at Klaserie River Safari lodge. It is still like we knew it from our visits bevor! The time there, with all the staff was so nice and we were welcome. We enjoyed delicious food and also lovely gamedrives. Looking forward to our next visit! Thank you all so much! Susanne and Jackie

Amazing time

We came to South Africa to enjoy several days Safari in Kruger Park and in a private reserve. Our best moments were at Klaserie River Safari Lodge. 

The highlights were the game drives with Lauren, the owner and manager. Full board included 2 activities a day. We started with an afternoon game drive and saw a beautiful male leopard, next morning a bush walk along Impala, giraffes (a baby giraffe!) where Lauren explained us all the animal tracks, in the late afternoon we saw mating lions Lauren had tracked them down from a single roar we heard and the tracks. Fotos of a lifetime !

The lodge with wooden structures in traditional style is very nicely set up at the banks of a small river with a resident hippo family right under our porch, The huts with thatched roof are decorated in a nice safari style. Two swimming pools.

The food by the cook Steven was superbe. The breakfast  including fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, muesli and the English breakfast eggs. A light lunch is served, which had salad and quiche on fay one, and very good chicken wraps on day 2. Three course dinner with BBQ, and our second with Impala stew. Very good deserts. 

We highly recommend this place and felt very welcome by the owner and staff.

Excellent Safari stay with Leopard and Lion sightings

We just want to start off by thanking you guys for taking us on such short notice - we had an absolute blast during our stay at Klaserie River Safari Lodge. Lauren went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. The day trip to the Kruger was a bucket list item for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed it - brunch served at a perfect picnic spot in the KNP just brought back so many good childhood memories for the both of us, and we can never thank you enough for that. From the room to dinner and breakfast, we can’t find fault with anything. Units are well equipped and clean. We were really able to just relax and take in every moment of the magnificent bush. Lovely stay

We had such a great stay at Klaserie River Safari Lodge. Great staff, great food, great views..it felt like leaving behind a friend when we had to say goodbye to the managers. We would recommend it to anyone who needs a relaxing bush break and we will definitely visit again!! 😀

Awesome bush break

The place was very expensive (at least according to my budget) but i was underwhelmed as i was expecting 5 star but it was average. Also, the milk and teas in the room was all expired, and when i alerted the staff was told that they had not checked and all of it was expired. Also, the muesli at breakfast was very stale and had some crawling insects, and when I alerted staff they said nothing was wrong with it. It really put me off.

Underwhelming

Rustic accommodations.  Our cabin backed to the river and each morning we could hear the two Hippo's.  We enjoyed seeing and hearing them each morning.  At night we enjoyed the bug sounds.  The staff was very nice.  We were there for Christmas Eve and Day and the staff decorated the Christmas Eve dinner table to make it festive which all the visitors appreciated.

I recommend to improvement opportunities.  The first is the 45-60 minute safari ride to Kruger National Park.  The driver drove too fast on the gravel roads which was unsafe and made the ride miserable.  At one point he almost lost control of the vehicle on the gravel roads as the rear end slipped out.  One the way back, before we got into the vehicle I asked the driver to slow down and drive safer and he did.

My second suggestion is for the safari guide, Fabien to increase their customer service levels.  I know the guides have seen the sights many times, but suggest they ask the visitors if they've seen enough and are ready to move to the next sight before driving away.  Secondly, I suggest Klaserie ban smoking on the Safari's both by the guides and visitors.  It's a danger to both the wild life and nature, especially with the high temperatures and dry conditions.  Use Australia as an example how a fire could get out of control. The whole safari could be wiped out because of a careless smoker.  Fabien was more concerned with having his cigarette during our coffee breaks than with making coffee for the visitors.

Good budget friendly experience

Stayed for two nights Jan 2020. Really enjoyed our stay, rooms very nice and good offerings (cheap mini bar and laundry). Very nice food provided and beds were comfortable. Morning and afternoon game drives or walks were included as well as all main meals. We didn’t do a walk but explored the property ourselves and found lots of giraffes/zebras. 

Highlight was the game drives with Vusie (unsure of spelling). He was AMAZING! Very courteous to guests as well as the animals on the reserve. He had so much knowledge and tracking skills, he really made our trip. Our last game drive was with another guide who (unfortunately) was no where near as good. Ask for Vusie!!

Excellent accommodation and food.
Game drives very informative, guides are extremely knowledgeable & will answer any questions you may have.
Nothing is too much trouble for them.
We really enjoyed our time there.

Excellent Place

After researching a LOT of different places on private game reserves around SA/Kruger, we decided on Klaserie and were NOT disappointed. It is exactly as it represents itself on Trip Advisor and the website. 

The individual villas overlook the river and have nice decks to sit and enjoy the hippos. Each morning we were greeted by giraffes in the ‘front lawn’ as we left for our game drive. 

The game drives included were good. We saw a a hippo, a herd of elephants and a pride of lions in addition to the many antelope species, birds, etc. Additionally, you can choose to do safaris in Kruger or other game reserves for a reasonable additional price which we chose to do in place of one of the included evening drives. In hindsight it was a very good decision as we were able to see what we missed of ‘the big 5’ at the other reserve (rhino, cougar & buffalo). A day ‘panorama’ trip was an option but as we were limited on time we elected to the do the Blyde River Canyon boat ride in the AM (other reserve game drive PM). It was perfect as we were able to get a good view of the 3 Roundavels without taking the entire day (and losing a game drive). 

Unfortunately our packed schedule didn’t afford us pool time, but the pool area is beautiful and people do take advantage during the day between game drives. 

The food was good. Breakfast is good, lunch is simple & modest and they go all out for dinners. Drinks are ala carte and the wine list is just okay. Obviously not a place that is for wine connoisseurs (and that’s okay, they don’t claim to be).

Our only wish is that we had more time there!!! 

Excellent 1st Safari

We spent a great weekend in the beautiful surroundings of Klaserie River. The staff and accommodation were fantastic the surrounding area beautiful and the food fabulous! Louis and Evance led the bush walks and night drives which were great with many sightings, and very educational. Our highlight was seeing a black rhino. Thank you to the staff we had a great time 🙏
