We have been to the local ATKV resort a few times, yes here at Kumbagana is pretty much f-all to do.....BUT it the ideal place to simply shut your phone of and relax. The peace and quiet is so tranquil, the staff are all friendly and make you feel right at home. We will definitely return again!

This is the best place to visit if you need to relax. I enjoyed every moment of my visit. I would visit this place every time i need to relax. The game drive was the best part. The staff was amazing! Thank you Kumbagana's team for making my holiday the best !!

Very peaceful environment to have a good rest. Facilities are good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would suggest a couch in the living area and one or two bowls in the kitchen. Will visit again if in Rietspruit.

Peaceful

The chalets look good at first glance, but as our time there progressed I started noticing that the maintenance is not up to scratch. The shower door was broken. Our bathroom had an ant nest somewhere and the bathmat was covered in ants. No hand towels were provided. In fact, for a chalet that can sleep 4 people, only 2 towels were in the room and there was only 1 extra blanket. There is only a small bar fridge in the chalet, which is not sufficient for a self-catering chalet. If we has been staying more than 1 night, it would have been a huge problem. Our game drive was scheduled for 3pm, but was moved to 2:30pm because the guy wanted to go home early. During the game drive, we could feel that he was rushing through it. We never really stopped long enough to take any good photos of the animals. The swimming pool was very nice and clean. I also found it strange that we has to make our own beds and clean the chalets before leaving. Do they not change the bedding between guests? I feel that the maintenance needs to be picked up a little here. It has the potential to be really lovely.

Room for Improvement

I felt that the staff was fake friendly and that your arrival is rather an inconvenience to them.  The accommodation is certainly not what you pay for, and we had the same experience as a previous reviewer - only 1 towel per person. Linen in bad condition.  Kitchen cutlery etc. not fully stocked. The game drive was a complete disappointment - barely 30 minutes long and we got stuck without diesel (gas).  We had to walk the last bit. Thankfully only stayed one day en route.  Hopefully the owner gets to read this, because I realised it wouldn't help to complain to the staff because they simply don't care.

Super disappointing

We were invited here by some friends for two nights.

Firstly, I think the prices charged is very steep for whats on offer here. There was a booking blunder which saw our group pay far more than we should have.

Secondly, there is just about nothing to do. (Apart from a 30 minute nature walk). Many reviewers on here warned against the game drive on offer, saying it was awful and rushed, so thats not even an option by the sounds of it.

Thirdly (and most upsettingly), there are two dogs roaming the property which seem to be starving for food. Bone thin, and scavenging for scraps all the time. I'm really not sure if these dogs get food and water here from the owner but it doesnt look like it. We felt really sorry for these pets and we fed them most of the food we had brought for ourselves.

On a different note, the Chalets were ok. Fairly clean, but no wine glasses in the cupboards, and some chipped/damaged plates, and considering how cold it is this time of the year, they only have very thin, tiny throws on the beds that attempt to serve as blankets, which, even with the room heater on, we still got very cold in our room. Only 1 roll of toilet paper in the room with no spare rolls incase.

The braai area is ok. Does the job for a braai, but the areas dont get cleaned, and even if you were to clean the previous night's ash up, there seems to be no tools/spades/bags etc to even to attempt doing that. The firewood doesnt get replenished either.

The road leading up to the camp from the main road is barely drivable, and its a really far drive up (for a driveway), with loose sand so thick that if it rains, or if you are in a regular car with a low profile, that could be an issue for sure.

Whats more, is that on a weekend, (the busy time), they employ weed-eaters, tractors etc to do noisy maintenance right outside your chalet during the time that guests try enjoy some peace & tranquility.

I'd understand if this place charged R300 per night per chalet, but at more than 3 times that price, it wasnt anything to rave about at all.

There are far nicer places out there to visit and stay at. 

I'll give this place a 3/10 at best.

A rather depressing establishment.

I would never recommend this place to anyone. My chalet was thee ants nest it was so disgusting. Ants were everywhere, kitchen, bedroom, toilet and couldn't control them because they look like dirt or wet soil only to find out its dead ants. They come out only to die, it was so unhealthy you barely sleep at night and you can't even enjoy food because they crawl everywhere. You have to make sure your food is properly sealed and wash the cutlery and plates before you use them. even the dish cloth is forever full of ants.

The bar fridge is too small for more than a day visitors, no TV, you clean your own chalet. The place was also full of dust and the blinds, the double bed was old. This place is dead, it must just shut down and get on a serious maintenance because it has potential of being the best. I doubt anyone who visit this place ever comes back. I even had to drive the kids to Sun City on one of the days I was there so that they get to enjoy their holiday because there was nothing to enjoy and the lodge. Actually, they couldn't wait to go home.
