Casa Paz do Barrocal

We wanted a short break near the coast and beach, but also the peace and tranquillity that Casa Paz was able to offer. Approximately ten to fifteen minutes from the property is the Town / City of Tavira, a lively and welcoming place straddling the river that runs through the centre and interconnected by various bridges, here you will find many restaurants and bars, lining the waterfront and down the various alleyways and squares, as well as shops, a most wonderful fish market, plus butchers and local vegetable growers all under one roof, there are beautiful churches, ramparts and gardens plus many other things to interest and stimulate too varied to go into here. Casa Paz itself is delightful, nestled in the hills above Tavira the views and sunsets are simply breathtaking, and Mark and Lizzie are the most wonderful and friendly hosts, never intrusive but always on hand should you need some ideas or simply a recommendation be it a restaurant, bar, or maybe somthing cultural, Mark and Lizzie really know their stuff when it comes to food, drink and even music based events, particularly those special places only local knowledge is aware of. The room we had was super clean, well appointed, very stylish and only a few steps to the wonderful pool and lounge area, the place has a unique feel about it and we loved every part of our stay, not least the gorgeous continental breakfasts taken on the terrace overlooking the valleys and surrounding hills. You will need a car if you want to travel about a bit, or visit the local hill top villages with their traditional bars and high elevation views over Portugal and Spain, and we picked our incredibly good value rental up at the airport, but equally you could get the transfer service the hosts offer if you're not planning on leaving the property, but in our opinion that would be a shame as there is just so much to see and do ! All in all a fabulous break, and we wouldn't hesitate to return when next in town, indeed we can't wait, as Mark and Lizzie are adding to, and improving the property for the benefit of their guests all the time, we will be back.
