Unfortunately the cottages are equipped with a very narrow, steep staircase with irregularly shaped steps that leads to the mezzanine where the beds are located.
During the night I slipped from the ladder and this required me to return home and check myself in hospital due to very serious bruises on my back, consequent reduction in mobility and a 15-day prognosis.
The reception (in a fast food restaurant open from 11am to 11pm) was closed and there was no possibility of getting help.
The ladder is definitely illegal and dangerous for adults and even more so for children.
We add that the cottage was dirty and that a supplement of NOK 175 per person is required for the sheet kit and a single towel. Lack of pots and therefore you can't use the kitchen. No possibility to have breakfast.

Traumatic and sad experience

Arrived in Oslo and headed straight here after a stop at the Stave church nearby.  Happy to have a cozy cabin right on the river with a nice little waterfall right outside our door.  Good food at the restaurant too.  Lovely town, beautiful scenery which just kept getting better as we headed toward and on the Ryfylke scenic drive down to Stavanger.

Great Start to our Norway Adventure

We had booked a three night stay here and was pleasantly surprised by the standard. Parking is free and just outside the cabin. There is a little terrace in the back and a small kitchenette, but we didn’t use it. The fridge came in handy, as it was some very hot days. Only small thing - our cabin was facing the river, which was nice, but it meant it wasn’t possible to keep the window/door open at night, as it was very loud. We would definitely stay here again.

Very nice accommodation

Stayed here overnight in June and chose the cabin as we were traveling with a dog. Cabins small, but OK, fine for a very small family or 2 adults. No extras provided, not even soap. We cleaned the place ourselves on leaving, but even so there was an extra cleaning charge because of the dog. We tried the food at the cafe and wished we hadn’t. No vegetarian options and no breakfast provided.

Cabins small, but ok, food best avoided

Nice and tidy little lodges next to the fast food restaurant. Kitchen isn't very well equipped but we managed. Ours had a kitchen/living room downstairs, a nice bathroom, and a double and single bed in a bedroom. More beds upstairs but not much headroom. It would be very cramped with more than 4 people

Cozy

Beautifully positioned by a mountain stream our gold coloured cottage did not disappoint. The first impression was space - it was great to have room to move. Two comfortable chairs faced the wall-mounted TV. There was dining table and chairs and space to keep your belongings. The kitchenette had 2 hotplates and pots/pans/cutlery/crockery but did not have a microwave or toaster. At the back of the cottage was an outdoor table and chairs facing the stream. Parking at door.
Dinner is available at the restaurant alongside reception.
Despite the Booking.Com booking confirmation stating bed linen and towels were not included and cost 150 NOK per person per stay this was not so.

Very clean, comfortable and warm.
Location excellent for rjukan! 
Fridge, hob and coffee machine included.

Cosy traditional cottage experience

Been comming to hyttebyen many times, and it always delivers. Nice welcome, clean and great rooms/small cabins/ appartment with bedsheets and towels included. This is my 8 th or 9 th time and i appreciate a place like this. Can recommend for sure.

Nice and clean

I knew I wanted to see Rjukan when I heard about the mirrors that were installed so as the town gets sun in winter. It’s an amazingly situated twin, straddling a river between two mountains. The Rjukan Hytteby is pretty basic but for one night it was adequate. Three of us shared a cabin. My partner and I took the upstairs “room”, accessed by a very steep ladder. Cabin itself was compact. The cleaning fee for just one night but we could have avoided this by cleaning ourselves. 

Be warned though - Rjukan is a small town. We were there on a Saturday night so the only places to eat were at the cabin grounds or the cinema cafe. We choose the cafe which was lovely. The cafe at the cabin grounds didn’t look great. Breakfast the next morning was even harder to find on a Sunday - we ended up getting a hot dog at the petrol station. 

All in all - Rjukan is well worth a visit. 

Simple but acceptable

Was very excited to stay at this property during our recent trip to Norway.  This is very slick marketing that's just short of false advertising.  We rented a large cabin, advertised as having " Bedroom with 2 beds and the loft with 3 beds".  The "two beds" in the bedroom are bunk beds with the top bunk being very hard to use by an adult which resulted in one of us sleeping on the couch.  The "three beds" in the loft are three mattresses on the floor.  We checked out a day early and when I complained to the manager his comments was "we have pictures on the website".  The pictures do show a bunk bed but with no explanation as to where it is.  Since the small cabins have a picture showing two single beds one can make a reasonable assumption that is the standard layout.  And as stated previously, this is not in a remote area, despite what the pictures of the property try to imply.  The ladder going up to the loft is very steep-steep enough to make my adult son nervous.  The food in their restaurant is mediocre at best.  I would recommend to stay elsewhere unless you are desperate.
