Hotel Casa de Pacifico Masachapa Playa

From the road there was nothing extraordinary about the Hotel Casa de Pacifico but once inside the walled gate we were confronted with quite the spectacle. A few colourful bungalows, a lovely well maintained tropical garden, comfortable patio with an inviting swimming pool and the amazing pacific ocean beyond framed with beautiful palm trees. Our friendly hosts and their two well behaved dogs welcomed us and made us feel relaxed and at home immediately by providing us with refreshing cervezas, showed us our comfortable clean room, gave us the low-down of the area listing the activities that they could arrange for us, gave us some tips on the local restaurants and then left us to relax. Our room was a few steps from the clean pool which we couldn’t wait to climb into. Just beyond the pool was the beach. The sound of the ocean constantly present and calming. We had arrived for the week of New Year’s when Nicas traditionally take a holiday and flock to the beach. Being a gringo it was great to be there enjoying the waves with local people rather than a bunch of other gringo tourists. We enjoyed long walks on the beach and watching the most incredible sunsets. On New Year's Eve our generous host arranged a shuttle service to take hotel guests to one of the big parties in the village; a disco with some live bands or a more traditional celebration. We decided to stay put and spend the evening at the Hotel Casa de Pacifico. Following a beautifully presented and cooked fresh lobster dinner with an ice cold bottle of white wine, we went with our hosts and their dogs to the beach to watch the fireworks. As far as you could see in each direction there was a wonderful pyrotechnic display and masses of stars above. It was one of the best vacations we’ve had.
