Stayed multiple times over a few years. Clean and tidy with a friendly atmosphere. Not a huge hostel so much easier to make friends! Great for a long term stay if you’re looking to live in Wellington. Plenty of clean bathrooms for all hostel stayers too!

Great stay

A wonderful place to stay when you're in Welllington, whether that's for a few nights or long term. The staff are amazingly friendly and responsive to any requests, it has nice big communal, well stocked kitchen/dining area, there's a great outdoor space for sitting in the sun in the evening, and an atmosphere that is unmatched. I was lucky enough to meet friends for life at this place, as there are always people around to chat to, whether they're just passing through or are long termers. The location is great, just a short walk into town and close to a number of bus routes. Would stay at this hostel again in a heartbeat.

Best Hostel in Wellington

We, unfortunately, booked before checking reviews, decided to turn up anyway, then left almost immediately. NO PARKING at all, on a very steep hill, quite a few rooms were down a lot of steps. Our room and shared bathroom were amazingly clean  however the rest of the place was disgustingly filthy. The carpet seemed to have years of beer and takeaway food trodden into it, piles of clothes all over the floor in every room occupied by teenagers. At only 4 pm several half-drunk teenagers already lying about on the couch on the front verandah and a young girl virtually passed out on a table inside. We have travelled using NZ backpackers for years but hey I have standards..plus I am no teenager!  We left but had to pay for one night which I suppose is fair enough as we gave no warning..but then they gave US no warning either!

Worst backpackers in New Zealand

If I could leave less than a one star review for this place then I would. My friend and I stayed here hoping that this would provide a long term accommodation solution for us, how wrong could we have been. We didn't even make it through the first night! We left at 10pm and checked into a hotel around the corner, went back the following morning to grab our stuff and leave! A squat house full of youngsters that were drunk and more than likely high. Prepare yourself for a sleepless night if you stay here or better yet book somewhere else to stay!

Run for the hills, for your life and for freedom!

We booked (for two people) 6 weeks before our trip to Wellington.  A few days before our trip an e-mail was sent that ho beds were available.  We were en route and did not receive the e-mail right away.  When we received it, we found they had booked us in another hostel that had terrible reviews.  We declined and enquired why a "confirmed reservation" does not have any meaning.  They could not answer what happened or why.  
This was the second time my family had a reservation messed up by WorldWide.  We thought it was a one time thing when the confirmed reservation for a private room was not honoured.  I was in town for business so was not prepared for a dorm bed.  I stayed one night and then moved to an AirBnB,.
Now we know this is not a one-time problem.  It is too bad, because our first stay at World Wide, almost 5 years ago, was a good experience.  But they failed two out of three.  Don't trust that a reservation means a reservation, it seems to be more of a suggestion.

Don't TRUST a "confirmed reservation"

We had a really nice email contact but when we visited the place we left immediately. It is packed, disgustingly dirty, old and untidy to say the least. They even packed 3 tents below the terrace, put old mattresses into them and want to charge $20 pp.

Hobo hideout

Mostly young people here, long term tenants, thankfully I don’t see older travellers because it gets noisy at night, I had a hard time sleeping. Should’ve put my earphone on. 

A little messy in shared space, kitchen sink, lounge area with cups plates food laying around. Can see a few of management notes on the wall, tired of tenants not following rules. 

Otherwise condition is alright. 

Place is suitable for young travellers who like meeting people and enjoy drinks, musics, games and staying up late. 

Sadly I’m not one. 

For the young

Very busy hostel with a lot of long-term people staying there. The room didn't look that clean and there was always a key left in the door, so anyone could come in/out of the room. As I was there at the weekend there was loud music in the evening all through the night and people drinking - not ideal if you want an early night.

Wouldn't go back again

Being in central Wellington, I was expecting quality accommodation. When I arrived mid afternoon, there were no staff present & a long term resident kindly showed me around. The room was cosy enough apart from a leaking tap & a top single sheet fitted to the double bed sideways.
I left to visit family at the hospital & arrived back around 8.30 to find a party in progress.
Being Friday night it was not a total surprise but it continued far into the night which was annoying. The next night was a lot worse, excessive noise including yelling, loud music & running down the corridor. This continued till 12.15 when the long term residents departed for more partying elsewhere. The kitchen was packed with food from guests so hard to find space to store anything, including the fridge.
I departed next morning early, glad to get away as a couple of long term residents were sleeping in the lounge, & outside where I felt like having breakfast.
Every time I left the premises or entered, someone was seated beside the doorway which was less than ideal.
The hostel was not maintained well, a lot of work is needed to bring it up to a reasonable standard in my view.
