Oamaru House Bed and Breakfast

We had a wonderful stay at Oamaru House in late February this year!  Wish it had been for longer.  Greg and Jacqui are warm and gracious hosts at their lovely B&B on the hillside with great views.  We loved staying in the spacious suite with outdoor patio area, very comfortable bed and extensive library (which made for some interesting book conversations with our hosts too).  Greatly enjoyed dinner at the Portside restaurant at their suggestion and unforgettable experience seeing the blue penguins nearby after dark.  We also had a great time exploring the Victorian area, particularly the sculpture and prism shops and we still can't get over the Adventure Bookshop there.    We are so glad that we found this community and B&B on our trip from the US and our fortunate timing.  Hope to go back for longer!

We loved our huge room with a separate seating area and library. Was also nice to have a separate toilet and shower rooms. Jackie fixed a terrific breakfast and she and Greg were lovely, helpful hosts. For the penguins, she also told us the right place to watch them. But the night we went was cold, dark and windy so we decided to walk a short way to the actual penguin colony. Although it cost $25NZD each, it was worth it to watch a record number of 127 blue penguins come up for the sea while we sat under a covered observation deck.  When we went back to our car, there were also a few penguins coming up right where Jackie said they would but it was too dark to see them. So it might be worth a try if it’s light out and not too rainy.  But if you want to be sure to see them , just go to the Penguin colony. We Highly recommend Oamaru House! 

Oamaru House is placed about the 3 km out of Oamaru. The gorgeous house is based at a hill with a fantastic view above the city onto the sea. It was a pleasure to meet Jacqui and Greg. They are so friendly and helpful and taking care for all your wishes. The breaklfast is delicious.

We stayed at the Oamaru House B&B for one night en route Queenstown to Christchurch. We stopped in Oamaru as we wanted to see the Blue Penguins. Greg & Jacqui gave us some great advise and directed us to wait (and be patient) close to the boat launch just before the Penguin Colony. At about 10 PM an group of Blues did come up the boat launch. 
The bed  (Pacific Room) was comfortable and the bathroom quite unique. For breakfast Jacqui made food to order. Great breakfast. Much better than staying in a hotel. 

Was not sure we were making the right decision to go to Oamaru or not.  The boulders on the way were at high tide so it made it less than amazing. However, after seeing this property and Greg and Jackie, it made the trip worth the full time.  A most beautiful home set on a hillside.  The bedroom was out of a fashion magazine.  Breakfast was excellent. Even for cereal and fruit guy like me.  If you go that way do not miss this property.  An exceptional value.

We stayed at this B&B for one night and loved it! The room was huge and opened up to a large deck with plenty of room for relaxing and beautiful views (unfortunately it was quite foggy so we couldn't appreciate it).  The hosts were wonderful and gave us great recommendations for things to do around Oamaru.  The breakfast was wonderful and the portions were great.  The best part was that the bed was so comfortable, we slept so soundly and woke up refreshed.
