  This fall our family (my son, his wife and myself) took a 3 week bucket list trip to Australia and New Zealand.  While in Dunedin we stayed 2 nights at the Fletcher Lodge.Our hostess, Ewa showed us around and let us pick our rooms. As soon as we got to the Edinburgh Suite I set my bag down and announced, "this is my room!"  
  The Edinburgh suite was beautiful, with a large sleigh bed, period furniture and art work and tapestries on the wall. I was happy to see that there was an ironing board and iron..  There was a charming little balcony through the glass doors.
   There was a lovely old sideboard with a decanter of port and a display of fresh fruit to enjoy. The large bathroom was luxury itself, a heated floor, a large, claw foot soaking tub, a separate shower unit, a large stained glass window with emblems of Scotland and  Poland, and a pretty display of toiletries to use.
  .  The  historic building is lovingly kept up and spotlessly clean. The attention to detail is remarkable.  Every night there was a small piece of gourmet chocolate on the turned down bed and a small stoppered glass bottle of water and a glass on the bedside table .
  Our host and hostess went out of their way to be helpful, making dinner reservations for us, cooking breakfast the way we liked it, even giving me a little plastic ball that could clip to my purse, containing a rain poncho because I was going on an excursion and it was raining.. I highly recommend this B and B. 

The Beautiful Fletcher Lodge

Ewa is the most wonderful hostess. She runs a lovely accommodation that makes you feel comfortable. Very conveniently located & Eva knows the answer or has a suggestion to anything you need. We packed our day in Dunedin with a fabulous breakfast(my husband is still talking about the fruit),a visit to the botanical gardens ( a must) out to the peninsula (another must) & dinner at Platos.. The previous evening we had dinner at Bacchus- superb. We would highly recommend these beautiful accommodations. Thank you Ewa & Kieth for a great Dunedin experience.

This is the place to stay as they make you feel right at home with their caring ways .  Ewa booked a cab for a tour around town with very little notice. The breakfast was made to order and just wonderful. We must come back again!

New Zealand 2019

My wife and I stayed here on our trip thru New Zealand. The home is very well cared for, the service was excellent and we were thoroughly impressed with the owner/management of the facilities.  A quite relaxing, beautiful environment. We would stay there again. The proprietors were very engaging and very helpful.  We loved it!

Well maintained and a beautiful experience

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Fletcher Lodge while visiting Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula and felt that we couldn't have stayed in a better place.  In a city so rich in history we enjoyed staying in this historic industrialist's house which marries all the modern amenities you need with an old world charm that expresses a sense of place.

The lodge is decorated in elegant, opulent style with antiques, tapestries and stained glass.  We stayed in the Edinburgh Suite, which is located up one flight of stairs from the ground floor.  Just outside the room is a niche with a station offering tea, coffee and biscuits/cookies for all of the guests to enjoy.  Upon entering the foyer of our suite we found a sideboard with a carafe of port and a dish of fruit plus plates, napkins and utensils and a hanging tapestry.  We had skipped lunch so we appreciated the fruit.

The bedroom was spacious, serene and handsomely appointed with a King-sized sleigh bed, night tables, a sitting area, desk, flat-screen TV and a large armoire outfitted with plenty of hangers and drawers as well as iron and iron board and waffle weave robes.  We especially liked the antique hat boxes and case atop it adding period character.  There were large windows and French doors leading to a private balcony with table and chairs exposing a wide-ranging view of city rooftops and the sea in the distance. The bathroom was positively luxurious with a claw-footed deep soaking tub, good-sized shower with excellent water pressure and thoughtful amenities like a toothbrush and toothpaste holder and high quality hairdryer.

Nights were peaceful and we slept well.  Breakfasts were very good, served in the lovely dining room.  There's also a cozy sitting room for guests to enjoy.  Secure parking on the property is available if you have a vehicle.

The owners, Keith and Ewa were very welcoming and helpful.  For example, we mentioned to Ewa that we planned to walk around town to see the street art and though we had a map, she gave us very useful tips and directions to help us find them more easily.   It's easy to walk to and from the main areas of town to the lodge.

This is a terrific place to stay when exploring Dunedin and the region especially if you prefer places with character, as we do.

Old world charm

Ewa looks after you. Where to go what to do and will be happy to book your activities and restaurants.
The room was spacious and comfortable and in keeping with the heritage age.
You can walk into the main area The Octagon where the shops and restaurants are. Breakfast is made fresh and allergies catered for.
I commend it to the house.

Lovely house, room and host

We had a wonderful stay, walking down the hill, a couple of hundred meters to downtown restaurants and museums.  With very friendly owners, who went out of her way to tour some of the huge wall murals (multi story) on the downtown buildings as well a fine restaurant suggestions and bookings.  The side of town was once glorious and returning with this lodge and a leading example.  Safe and convenient, to avoid moving and parking cars in town.
