About a 15/20 minute train ride out of Yangon Central, I enjoyed being in the 'university' district amongst the locals and markets. Take advantage of the local circle train line for a cheap ride into central Yangon - avoiding the traffic on the roads - and getting a look into local life. 
The staff at Bamboo Place were very hospitable. My flight was delayed, however the driver the guesthouse had organised for me waited for over an hour to pick me up.
The bed was very comfortable with a mosquito net provided. Breakfast was great - fresh fruit and eggs your way.

Our arrival in Myanmar was warmly welcomed by the staff and our stay here at the Bamboo Place. 
The location between Airport/Bus-Terminal and city makes it great for late arrivals etc. 
Airport service available for 10$ and the taxi into the city for 3500-4000MMK.
The breakfast outside offers a nice atmosphere and even though the rooms are simple, they match the price for the stay. Definitely recommended!

We enjoyed our stay at the bamboo hotel. The staff was extremely friendly. They arranged taxis, busses and they even made our breakfast for take away the day we were leaving. They also upgraded our room just because the room wasn't booked by anyone. Only downside was that there is a stoepa next door. During our stay there was a festival and they made noice until 2am... not fun at all. But overall we had a very pleasant stay! It's a bit out of the center but you kind of want that. This way you can escape the busy city. For 3000 kyats a taxi will bring you to the city center.

Great location, welcoming staff

It was our first adress in Myanmar. I booked the room because of the good reviews but I don't understand the enthusiasm about this guesthouse. We had a big room with hardly any furniture. There was one chair and one dressoir, insufficient to put your stuff. There were some kind of mosquito nets over the beds - with holes. Screens for windows and doors would be more convenient. It is nice to have breakfast in the garden. As usual in Myanmar breakfast is nothing special: white toast or white rice with egg and some fruit. The airport pickup was expensive (10USD, 13000 kyatt). The  taxidriver was supposed to meet us “straight in front after exiting the arrival gates and out into the airport lobby.” No one there, we had to call. 
The guesthouse is far away from the main sites, you will need a taxi to go downtown or to the Shwedagon pagoda. Nowadays everybody in Yangon who owns a car works as a taxidriver. They don't easily find this place. Make sure to keep the phone number at hand so they can call the owner to ask directions. We  paid 74 euros for 2 nights, it's too expensive for what they offer.

Did not meet my expectiations

I staid there two nights with a friend. We each had a room (we are no couple). 

My (first room): 
* no airco (I told them already in the afternoon but they were too lazy to fix it). 
* almost no water pressure
* 52 USD/day (other people paid much less, even 16 USD/day)
* room quite dirty and stinking. 
* whole night: dogs barking outside. 
Result: I didn't sleap and asked for another room. 

So room number 2: 
* no water pressure
* the was one light that I could not switch of (after switching off, it turned on automatically after a couple of minutes. Unbelievable). 
* dogs barking outside. 
Result: no sleep. 

Breakfast in the morning: very very basic at a dirty table. 

I don't understand what people like about this place.
