Rachid is an excellent host and will do anything to make your stay a pleasant one .The riad is very clean and from the terrace you can watch the  sunrise and sunsets over the medina .Breakfast was very good, and access to the kitchen was a bonus . I would definitely recommend this place as was very clean ,quite and very nicely done. Room was clean and beds very comfortable with fully functional AC . I will surely come back when we return to Fes.

Wondering Experience 

Tldr; A SAFE,FRIENDLY,TRADITIONAL RIAD WITH HOT WATER,HEATERS and A/C. Be sure to book ahead! 

So we visited Fès as a group of four students. We got cheap flight tickets, cheap booking in another hotel called Tombouktou, we arrived at midnight to the very dark and empty medina. Taxi ripped us off with the I don't have change trick, As we got to our hotel the owner said he was fully booked for the night and took us to a hotel across the street. That hotel charged double the price, but what other choices did we have at midnight.. So the next day we woke up early and found Riad la bauge de kenza, and a tourist couple that told us this Riad has hot water!!! We met Rachid who was escorting them to a taxi and invited us in to look around the place while he takes them to their taxi. He was friendlier to us then anyone else. 

When he came back we talked with him, about the price, he offered us to stay for 30€ a night (a couple) which is quite on the expensive side for students, but the hotel we spent the first night didn't have hot water and was really cold at night and cost about 20€ per couple) 
We later found out that the other tourist couple payed less than us (26 C$ which is ~18€ a night) and got better rooms than us. But since we didn't book ahead we didn't try negotiating any further. It was worth getting out of the other hotel. So be sure to book ahead to get a better price.
The breakfast is really good and included in the price (eggs, breads, pancakes,marmalade, honey and butter) and if you want something else be sure to ask, Rachid is very friendly and will do his best to make you happy. 

The water in the bathroom is HOT which on our first experience here is RARE. 
The nights during the winter months are cold, but Rachid got us tables and put heaters on them besides our beds so the rooms were warm and cozy.

We forgot to print our boarding passes and Rachid called a dozen places and got them delivered to us from new city on a Friday when about everything is closed in Fès. So again thank you Rachid.

So really the only minus is that we are students and we spent a little more than expected. But again we are 
glad we found this place as it seems to be the only place they don't try 
to scam you. Rachid will offer you many things like tours which might be expensive for students, but won't be offended if you decline them.

If we return we will definitely come to this place.

SAFE, FRIENDLY, TRADITIONAL RIAD WITH HOT WATER! VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE!

We stayed here 2 nights during our 7 day Morocco trip in Jan 2020. The riad is located in the old medina which means you have to connect to the manager (Rachid) from the riad so he picks you up from the medina entrance. You cannot enter the medina with any motorized vehicle, bike etc. Only hand cart, donkey or on foot which makes it a really special experience feeling you are back in the 9th century when it was created. Its a labyrinth and the riad is alone difficult to find, especially if you arrive at night. It has a weird feeling to it. The labyrinth of the medina, the riad which is 500 years old, the surrounding old houses, but it feels magical! Once you find your way up the roof the claustrophobic feeling of being deep in the medina (old town) passes instantly and you enjoy the sunset on the roof top of the riad. 

Rachid the manager and Fatima (who prepared our meals) were phantastic. They took amazing care of us and it felt we were privat guests at the guesthouse. The food was amazing! We had dinners there (beware, if you want to do dinners in any riad, you may have to inform them aheaf of time!) It just was amazing!

The rooms are cosy, the bathrooms are to be honest a bit simple, so if you are sensitive to that - be warned. But I am usually very sensitive to having a good bathroom but the entire experience was so good that even I was able to look beyond that. The bathrooms are a bit old and coud use rennovation but keep in mind the building is 500 years old! Our room had more warm water yes but not hot, my mother in law had hot water actually so it may depend on the room. Otherwise cosy room with the really local riad feeling. 

I gave it a 4 stars and let me explain why: the entire experience is a 5 - I would stay there again any day. Just for the bathroom and lukewarm to warm water but not hot shower which is kind of import for me :)) I would probably do a 3-4 so here we are with 4 stars. - But a very high recommendation to stay there - the experience and flair, atmosphere and hospitality is something I would never want to miss and that would always come back to! THE experience of ancient Fes you dont want to miss!

Great atmosphere and experience

The host is so nice and the location is easy to find.

We arrived in the evening and Rashid helpfully met us from our taxi having organised one for us after our bus was an hour late. We may have struggled to find the riad by ourselves in the dark.  Rashid was seemingly on call for guests 24/7. He was so helpful to all the guests and Fatima, the cook, was lovely and smiley. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The riad itself though is pretty tired and felt a little run down, but it was a cheap option in Fes and very close to the medina. Thanks very much Rashid.

Fantastic staff

Rashid was very kind with us, also Fatima, but the Riad is a bit “down”, they could change some stuff, I mean, the guy who runs the Riad sleeps downstairs on the sofa, the breakfast basically is bread with margarina, jam and tea, that’s all. The A/C was working but couldn’t keep the room warm as well as the bathroom is horrible, freezing, the shower doesn’t work properly, couldn’t take a hot shower and the wc was basically broken. Wouldn’t stay there again. 

Disappointed 

I stayed there because I couldn't reach the hostel where I reserved,  I met Rachid by chance then asked him about the address of the other place and offered me the Riad to rest then pick me to the other place. 
As I was late and we were @ 5 pm I made my decision to stay at this Riad  till the morning when I should leave to Marrakesh. 
Actually,  Rachid helped me and gave me a reasonable price and I was so lucky that I met him again in the night when I finished my tour in Fes old city streets and couldn't reach the Riad! 
I stayed for one night in the most scary old city I have ever seen and thank you God that I met Rachid to overcome this feeling. 
The place is simple, clean,  traditionally decorated and very calm. 
I have enjoyed my quick stay there and if I will come again sure I will stay in the same Riad. 


One night stay

My husband and i spent 2 nights at this really traditional riad. We had the Arabesque suite which is extremely large and furnished extensively with traditional Moroccan decor but it gets a bit cluttered with the heavy furniture and decor. 

The housekeeper Rashid  is extremely helpful,  pleasant and treats his guests with pride in delivering a truly comfortable stay.  Fatima comes in during the day and cleans the place which is no small task considering the tiled walls, steps and several floors of furniture and decor.  This riad also offers a menu of a selection of main meals, mainly prepared by Fatima.  These need to be pre-ordered during the day so that the ingredients are sourced and cooked. It is not encouraged  to venture out at night to find other restaurants so the meals prepared in-house are pretty useful though priced high for Morocco. The meals are presented as tagine cooked,  they are served in a tagine only. A lovely breakfast is provided by Rashid which is included in the room rate.
There are little convenience type stores at the end of the alley open during the day should you need to pick up water etc. 

WiFi reception was strong and available in all areas. The showers are very good.  The aircon is very effective. There was a little tv in the room but we did not attempt to put it on so cannot comment on it's reception.  The bedside light switches and plug points were not working in this room which made it a challenge especially at night to walk through the room to the private bathroom navigating through the furniture.  

Looking beyond these shortcomings which could be coloured by our personal expectations,  you experience real medina  life staying at the riad especially during the day when you venture outside. It is safe to wonder around  and lose yourself in this amazing place which is second to none where working donkeys are the only mode of transport for the shopkeepers and businesses to get their supplies in.  You will need a guide to take you through the maze to see the people living their daily lives.  
You need to contact Rashid to get to this place as it is impossible to find any riad within the medina on your own and taxis cannot enter the medina.    
You can get a taxi after a 10 min walk through the maze to get to the outside of this medina should you want to venture out to the main city or transport hub.  
If you want to really experience Morocco,  i would highly recommend a min 1 night stay at this riad.i have rated location a 5 purely because of it's location within a medina to experience  a traditional stay but if you are looking for some place where you can venture out freely at all hours this location is highly restrictive.

Good place to stay to experience life in the old Medina

Very attractively priced. Clean and reasonably well maintained.  Inside the medina with very dirty alleys all around. Very small room and even smaller shower & toilet.  But Rachid, the caretaker is so amazing that he makes you forget all these negatives with his super service. You stay here only because of Rachid. Otherwise, staying in new town will be a better option!
