This place is a total pit.  Do not stay here.   It has concrete floors, is sparsely and poorly furnished, has  rusted fans, disgusting bathrooms, hot water that does not work, toilets that don’t work, is next to a Mexican restaurant that plays loud music until into the late evening and a teeny weeny pool.  There was no soap or shampoo in the bathrooms no bottled water provided.  The sinks were rusted.  I strongly recommend against staying here.  It is really quite unpleasant.

I stayed at the Hotel Casa Petra for two nights in January 2018.  The hotel offers excellent value for money: I paid the equivalent of 19 pounds sterling per night for my room.  Breakfast is not available at this hotel, although water and hot drinks are available free of charge in main public area.

There were many positives.  I was allocated a decent-sized room on the ground floor with a window looking on to the main public area; the double bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space for storing items and hanging clothes; wi-fi connectivity was very good; there was a nice en suite bathroom with plenty of hot water at all times; the location was great, being close to the main square and to many good cafes, bars and restaurants; I found the staff pleasant and helpful

The main negative aspect, however, was the total lack of heating inside the hotel.  With overnight temperatures falling to 2 degrees above freezing, this was a major issue for me.  Two blankets were provided, however, which means that I wasn't cold in bed.  Additionally, the metal door of room gave rather it a rather institutional feel and there were patches of mould on the ceiling and walls; the furniture was also very tatty.  I would also have preferred a room with a window looking on to the street.  For privacy, I had to keep my curtains closed at all times.

Had there been heating inside my room (even a small electric heater to take the chill of it), I would without question have awarded a higher rating.  Apart from that, the positives heavily outweigh the negatives.  I would strong recommend to fellow travellers planning to visit San Cristobal in January that they check that the hotel they're planning to stay at provides heating in the rooms.  It is worth bearing in mind that the town is situated an an altitude of 2,200 metres above sea level.  Even during the day, when it was quite sunny, temperatures struggled to reach the mid-teens.

By the way, there is a superb Italian restaurant (Trattoria Catanzaro) on the street parallel to the Casa Pedra, Calle Profesora Maria Adelina Flores.  It richly deserves its top rating on TA in my view.

Viajo mucho y nunca he encontrado un hotel con personal tan amable como El Hotel Casa Petra.  Y la dueña es especialmente amable!  El hotel es muy cómodo con buenas camas y cobijas y almohadas.  Todo es muy limpio.  También el ubicación es muy cerca al plaza y restaurantes.  El hotel es sencillo con muy buen precio.  Recomiendo este hotel muy muchísimo.  

I travel a lot and have never encountered a hotel with staff as nice as the Hotel Casa Petra.  And the owner is especially nice!  The hotel is very comfortable with good beds and covers and pillows.  Everything is very clean.  Also, the location is very close to the plaza and restaurants.  The hotel is simple and offers very good prices.  I very much recommend this hotel.
