We booked with hotels.com, and when we arrived (within the listed checkin hours) they told us that they have sold our room to someone else and dont have a room for us. We had to find another more expensive room somewhere else after arriving at night. The person on front desk would only blame the manager, and was not helpful to find another room. No sympathy and would only say 'this is how it is'.

Dishonest and rude

This is definitely NOT a boutique hotel, it’s ugly, has horrible furniture, the towels are old and worn the beds are the cheapest and worst quality, the rooms have no ventilation, there are no windows, the bathroom stinks, the toilet doesn’t flush...
The only good thing is it’s in a great location and the staff is very helpful and kind.
Nonetheless I would never stay here again.

Don’t stay here

Super location, 2 blocks from the beautiful Santa Domingo church. Stone’s throw from all the gourmet restaurants like Pititona, Los Danzantes, Casa Oaxaca. Casa Rua is small, clean and front desk staff Alejandro and Samuel are always ready to help with a smile. They can book you on day tours to Monte Alban, Hierve el Agua, etc. All the places in the historical centre are by the road so there is a bit of street noise. Bring earplugs for better sleep. Shower area tends to flood into the toilet, but not fatal. Excellent value for money. 

Perfect little place

Casa Rua is a small (6 room) hotel in the best part of Centro, close to many restaurants but out of the bustle close to the Zocalo.  I moved there from another place that I found too noisy and enjoyed my stay.  The staff is friendly, I was given a good discount for a 2 week stay and for those wanting clean but not necessarily posh, I recommend it.

A Perfectly Good Budget Option.

The hotel was a big disappointment, my family and I were having out yearly family vacation and wanted to pamper ourselves with a really nice hotel. The first disappointment was the booking policies: one must pay all the costs in advance, and cancellations are non-refundable unless you cancel 2 weeks in advance. We thought that being high season could be difficult and ignored this first sign.

The second problem was the booking, we booked for two suites and on our arrival we were told one of the rooms was not ready, which was strange given we arrived at about 6pm, it turned out the room was given to other travelers!!!, so my parents had to sleep for two days in a mini double size room (40 cm from each side of the bed, that's mini!). This is a major failure in a 5 room "hotel" which has such abusive booking policies.

The hotel is an old oaxacan house, which is a common style in Oaxaca. In this case the rooms were poorly adapted, and way below the standard of a hotel, not to say a boutique-styled one.

DOWNSIDES: 
The room I stayed with my brother had two double beds, and only one little 30x30 cm window! The air in the room was hot and stagnant in december, I cannot imagine how hot the place can get in summer!
The door does not have a proper lock, but a regular door with a push-button lock, although the hotel seems like a safe place, it does not give much confidence to leave the room with such a simple lock. 
No room has a proper closet, only a space with a metallic bar and some cheap metallic hangers, no drawers, no doors, no safe. 
Pictures of the hotel show cute little amenities, the hotel provided us with little soap bars and shampoo sachets, probably worth USD 0.50 altogether, not at all related to the 100 USD fee one pays per night.
My room had only one bedside table abandoned in one corner with a malfunctioning lamp, the beds had no pillow covers, and overall the lighting of the room is poor. My room had cable TV, but the room where my parents stayed first had only air TV with 4 channels.
The bathroom was also poorly ventilated by a 20x20 cm window, which was dirty (or moldy, could never know because of the low light), above the head shower the ceiling was starting to peel down because of excess moisture. On the first day the room ran out of hot water. The bathroom needs urgently and air extractor.
Wifi is provided for free, but it does not reach all corners of the hotel, such as the room I stayed, so one must go to the common areas for better signal.

UPSIDES
Location: It is two blocks away from Santo Domingo square (and so do about 10 more hotels)
Cleaning maid and reception staff: hard-working people and very kind, it is a shame they work for such and abusive hotel that risks their employment by being so bad.

CONCLUSION: Search for another place to stay, this one would be an acceptable deal if it was a third of the price they ask now. The term "hotel boutique" was abused and definitively this place is not worth bearing such name.

Neither hotel nor boutique, disappointing

The hotel has a great location (2 blocks from Santo Domingo) but the facilities are quiet limited. The pictures show a beautiful place, but when you get there is a big disapointment. It's not worth what they charge! We suggest to look for other hotels in the area that are much nicer.

Great location, but very overpriced!

Our stay was horrible, the rooms need a lot of work. The price was outrageous 150 us dollars. We found a better place one block away and it was better for half of the price. The management was not helpful and never spoked the true and the way you see the hotel in the web is nice but in person is not good. Save your money or find a better hotel. The front desk agents were awesome but that was the best of the hotel.
