La Perla (The Pearl) lives up to its name. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by all staff and made to feel very welcome. The house is beautifully decorated and holds many stories which are happily shared by Lars. There were many highlights but 2 that stand out: 1: 6:30 Happy Hour. Sitting around the bar, sipping margaritas, sharing our day adventures with our hosts and fellow patrons. Getting tips on our next day adventures. 2: the interest our hosts took in making sure we had a great experience in their city. 
Staying at La Perla was a wonderful experience, great atmosphere,  and good location (close to restaurants, public transport, and tourist sights).

A Pleasant Surprise

Well decorated and clean room with private balcony onto a quiet street. Magnificent view of nearby church towers and the dome of MUSA (site of one of Orozco’s mural) with lots of youthful energy from university students. Very safe for walking day and evenings, 20 minutes on foot to downtown and 7 minutes to nearest metro station. Hosts Lars and Guillermo were attentive and very forthcoming with ideas and information that blended with our plans and heightened our experience of the city during our short 4-day stay. Breakfast and margaritas were excellent!

This stay at La Perla was a really nice and memorable time. I rarely travel with no plan but did this on this occasion. It was no problem as the hosts have a passion for recommending day excursions around the city they clearly adore. Whether it's a tour, hike, point of interest, restaurant, or bar you're interested in, these guys have you covered with recommendations and detailed mapping, or they might even take you themselves. This level of service and attention made it a unique trip for me. And let me not forget to mention the room comfort, delicious daily breakfast, evening Margaritas with other guests and the hosts, all of which made for a time I feel very happy to ramble on about and highly recommend. It was my first time in Guadalajara but it won't be my last and La Perla will be my home base again when I return. I cannot imagine you won't be thrilled if you stay there yourself. Six stars!

La Perla is the kind of very special find that my girlfriend and I will be sharing enthusiastically with our friends and family for years to come. The property and room (suite with balcony) were superlative -- VERY clean and comfortable -- and the style & character of the room and the hotel more generally had us enjoying the extensive eye candy throughout our stay. The location in Colonia Americana is basically the best in all of Guadalajara -- very easy (and safe) walking distance to many tourist sites, as well as GREAT restaurants like Xokol and Tikuun + stylish bars like De La O, El Gallo Altanero, and Primer Piso. But easily THE best part of staying at La Perla is the staff / hosts and the way they all warmly go above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfy & memorable, and that you feel like family and get all your questions answered & needs met. Truly the best value and highest level of service we've experienced in a LONG time and we'll definitely be back! (Among other things, the happy hour margaritas and breakfast buffet were top notch and provided a nice time to chat with the La Perla crew -- and other guests.) I can't recommend La Perla highly enough -- their sterling reputation is richly deserved.

La Perla is pure Guadalajara magic!

The most charming place to be found.they were magnificent hosts at night for their delicious margaritas. In the morning was a beautiful breakfast. We highly recommend this place to stay. Each adventure we went on , they gave us maps and suggestions. Great location

We had the great privilege of spending 5 nights and 6 days at LaPerla.  From the moment we were greeted by Lars and Memo they exuded a warmth, class and elegance second to none. Their attention to details and their professional way of providing impeccable service is unmatched.  We began our adventure as strangers but left as friends and are looking forward to planning our next stay at LaPerla.  Joe and Kimberly

Wonderful people, wonderful place

The overall experience and attention to detail by the owners and staff are what makes La Perla a perfect choice for your stay in Guadalajara.   It's perfectly located close to everything yet on a quiet side street.  The mansion retains it's original glory while also providing up to date luxury.  There is something to see in every corner, on every wall, on every floor.  The relaxing rooftop terrace is a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the city.  Happy Hour talking to other guests was sublime.

Our room was comfortable and huge.  Much larger than anticipated.  Double shower?!  Perfection.  Location felt safe at all times.  No issues walking anywhere at any time of day or night.

The owners will be involved with you as much or as little as you'd like.  We took them up on their daily suggested itineraries as well as their restaurant recommendations.  It was a personal concierge service which I noticed was seamlessly adapted to each guests interests and abilities.

This is not a huge property, it's very intimate.  If you crave lots of booze and a wild night life where you can hang all day at the bar and then stumble to your room in the wee hours, this would not be the place for you.

Intimate and elevated experience in a very busy city

My recent two-day stay at La Perla was a wonderful experience. I absolutely loved my spacious and well-appointed room which also included a balcony. And, it's hard to say which I enjoyed more: the margaritas on the rooftop watching the setting sun or the delicious breakfasts presided over by the huge portrait of Gloria Marín in the dining room. Most importantly, my stay was made memorable by the the warmth and hospitality of Lars and Memo who went out of their way to make me feel comfortable at La Perla and in Guadalajara!

Highly Recommended

The hotel was incredible. Staffed by friendly helpful individuals that went way out of their way to make us feel like company visiting from out of town not just like travelers needing a place to crash. 

The City of Guadalajara was incredible. The Gothic churches and adjacent architecture is as beautiful as anywhere in the world. People were friendly and we felt safe everywhere. 

They close some of the streets for family time on Sundays. Cool to see everyone out enjoying the fresh air together. 

Compared with locations that have more US tourists it felt like many of the tourists were Mexican. Great of you are interested in taking in the native culture but could be difficult if you only speak English. I am bilingual so had no issues, but my wife mentioned that she felt like there was way less English spoken there and needed help navigating menus etc more often than usual. On a similar note the Peso is their currency not the US dollar. Making an exchange before hand will make things easier.
