Rats running around outside the entrance and along the bottom floor hallway. Cockroaches around the hotel. Left some personal belongings in the room and they were stolen by staff and the management did absolutely nothing to help me. Said they'd call me back they didn't. Called them for days and they hung up on me 6 or 7 times in a row. Accused my mother of taking my belongings. Incredibly rude owner or manager. Totally unprofessional and ignorant

the only thing that is good about this hotel is the location, you can barely see the staff. And it definitely urgently needs a complete renovation, some things are even dangerous. Don’t go there…………..

Don’t go there

I am here now and it's my 3rd stay here. I've also stayed in many hotels around the island.  I return here because of the location, the price and the kitchenette as it makes a very cheap self-catering holiday. 
I am sick of reading moans about " no bidet" " no phone" blah blah. You get what you pay for.  Don't pay peanuts for a large ,ideally located,essentially equipped studio room and then moan about basic bedding and furniture.  
I have always found my stay of 3 weeks or more to be quiet and comfortable.  Yes I need to buy plug in insect repellant and spray but that is no different even when I've stayed in more expensive malta hotels. Yes there is only a sheet and a cover, with blankets in the wardrobe but I find it adequate for a good nights sleep in a hot country.  Yes there is only housekeeping every few days but I personally don't want to be intruded on every day when self-catering.  Instead of moaning about there only being one cup etc in a review, why not go and ask them for another one. The staff have always been nice to us. You get rude staff at every malta hotel it's part of the fun.
I will definitely return again when on a budget. 

Great location, quiet, affordable and well equipped for self-catering.

Positives-Location was fantastic. Shopping and the sea both a 2 minutes walk away.
Wifi was excellent.
Paid for single room and got a huge 3 bed apartment (no balcony).
Both air con & ceiling fan was great.

Negatives-No hairdryer.
Customer service was bad, i had emailed twice prior to arriving, neither was answered. The man at reception seemed really surprised when i checked in,like they weren't expecting anyone.
On the morning of check out which was 11am, housekeeping staff banged on my door around 9 and again an hour later which was annoying.
The bath looked in need of TLC.

Very basic but excellent location.

I spent 10 days at the Alborada ApartHotel in central Sliema, Malta the last week of August 2020 and have a excellent opinion of this hotel. The hotel is perfectly situated, four minutes walk from the pier, where ferries leave for Valletta, and from the central bus arrival point, where frequent buses leave to go to Valletta and many other destinations, two minutes from the seafront and from an excellent outdoor bar/restaurant, the Compass Lounge, open until about 2 O'Clock in the morning, where I had dinner and a few beers most evenings, and one minute from a car park and a very well stocked local supermarket.
The hotel is extremely inexpensive and excellent value for money. The room I stayed in was really a studio appartment, with all kitchen equipment, toaster, micro-wave, electric hot plate, refrigerator etc, a small dining table and a small desk. There was a balcony, though I don't think there is in every room.
The manager was really nice and I had no problem arriving just before midnight. I would certainly re-book into this hotel if I went to Sliema again.

10 days stay in august

Budget room but great location.  The whole of Malta is a building site (European Funded!) and so on every street be prepared to dodge cement mixers, builders trucks and more importantly, early noise in to the room from roofers and builders. Ok, so not the hotels fault.  Decor and amenities are mixed.  We had new pots, pans etc but bath taps dribbled water out and not enough hot water to reach much above the ankles.  Shabby decor in places but the room appeared clean.  Advertised that rooms were attended to every other day but we had no evidence however, not an issue for us as only stayed four nights.  I didn't see a member of staff until I left in order to pay cash.  All done over an intercom otherwise.  The rooms needed more info on how to work the TV, Hot water, oven etc as some may struggle.  eg Hot water you need to turn a wall switch on and then the boiler high up on a wall!  Some neighbours seem to insist that you had to talk loudly when leaving the room!  Lovely food at the One Thai outlet at the entrance to the apartment which is a plus if you can not be bothered to trek around.  No cleaning materials so if you do cook in the room you need to get washing up liquid, clothes etc.  No shower curtain but then again the water would not be powerful enough to run it anyway.  In our room the water came out of the shower head and tap regardless - controls didn't work.  This is advertised as a 2* and so expect 2*.  Our only real issue and complaint was the bath taps and hot water otherwise this was perfect for what we wanted - a budget, good location and base.  If you get good water (hence the 3 rating) then worth a visit.

Depends On What you Need

I am surprised by so many negative reviews and by people's regrets about booking this hotel. The only regret we had was a piece of cranberry cheese forgotten in the fridge in our room :) It's a basic budget hotel, we did not expect Four Seasons Resort service for that little money we paid. Location is excellent - the hotel is surrounded by shops, café, restaurants, supermarkets. Bus stop and ferry - 5 min walk. Quick commute to/from the airport - it took us only 25 minutes to get to the hotel on X2 bus. There is a beach nearby. Very helpful manager. We got our boarding passes printed for free. There was a fridge, stove, oven, microwave and tea kettle in the room - everything in good working condition. Essential cookware, utensils, glasses. Clean linens and towels. TV did not work, but we did not come to Malta to watch TV. The only substantial flaw we found was weak WiFi signal. WiFi was free, but it worked normally only in the lobby. Overall, good value for the price and nice base to explore Malta.
TIP: We recommend ferry rather than bus  to get to Valetta – it’s cheaper, faster and much more pleasant.

Decent basic budget hotel

Minuses:
1) Found half dead cockroach in hallway;
2) WiFi was working inconsistently;
3) Beds were worn out, however got changed after request;
4) Walls made of paper - no sound isolation;
5) Breakfast was the most basic we have ever seen. You can find better deal in cafe down the street;
6) Room got cleaned once on our 7 night stay and only after demanding request;
7) Window door handles broken, curtains ripped, toilet does not flush properly;
8) In our stay around 4 times elevator got stuck because of the weight limit. Once with 3 of us in it. Warning sign says that it is for 3 persons or 2 with luggage. In fact it is only for 2 persons or 1 with luggage;
9) TV not working;
10) Print out that you have paid for the hotel to avoid unnecessary discussion with the manager about it.

Pluses
1) Good location.
2) Room got kitchen in it, however when going on a trip you better enjoy local food in cafe than to cook it yourself.
3) Staff were friendly

Avoid if possible. Add those few EUR and buy decent hotel.

excellent location because is very central, rooms are huge and you have a lot of space with a quite well furnished small kitchen. very cozy room, very welcoming and helpful reception and good deal the only problem we have had to face has been the cold, room was pretty cold during the night and even when we have reported it the problem has not been solved. but i would come back there after all

nice place after all

Rude and unfair owner. dirty place and wi fi didn't work.. we had no water.I wouldn't let a review here but now it's too much. no water in the hotel, they denied everything. we lose a lot of time to wait until the problem was fixed for 2 days and finally changed hotel. go to the diplomat it's a better place same price.They charged the payment of both nights even if booking cancelled the second one cause they didn't answer even to them!!!!!! REALLY CHEAT.
