We stopped here for a relaxing quiet lunch break after touring part of the hot dusty city of Antananarivo. The garden was pleasant and we sat under shade for a lunch for our group of 14. 

The service was prompt. The cold beers nice, the meals ok but nothing special. The staff were pleasant. 

Note that they take cash only, or credit card if over 50,000 ariary, so we ended up having to pay for everyone's meals on our card as we didn't have cash. Copped a 3% surcharge for Visa...

My wife and i enjoyed lunch at Relais du Rova after visiting the palace complex at Ambohimanga. Both lunches were well prepared. the pumpkin soup was quite good. Service was very slow. There was a strange musical presentation while we ate lunch. This restaurant is convenient to reach off the main road to Antananarivo

Not Bad

Although we only stayed a night at Relais du Rova, we were welcomed by kind and English speaking staffs. It is a very peaceful place to relax. Lovely birds are singing in the garden. We would definitely stay again, when we visit Antananarivo.

I photographed the wedding of a very good friend at Relais du Rova. Food was delicious and well served. The setting is at the same time convivial and picturesque. The lunch was served in the chalet of the large yard. this place is perfect for private intimate receptions

After a morning visit to the royal settlement (rova) located 24 kilometers north of Antananarivo, our group of 10 stopped here for lunch. A pleasant restaurant set in a quiet, attractive green park area, it offers a variety of Malagasy specialties along with European dishes.

Because we could not be seated together, we were divided into a table of six, and a table of four. My spouse and I, made up the foursome. We both ordered the Malagasy soup made with zebu and noodles costing 10,000 Ar. because we enjoy trying the local cuisine.  We felt it was reasonably priced, and generously portioned. We rated our meal slightly above average.

Although everyone in our group ordered about the same time, our table of four was served without delay. Our other table of six waited more than an hour for their meals. In fact, we four had finished eating before the others were served. And one person's spaghetti dish was completely skipped by the waiter. Because of this, we had to postpone our departure until this10th meal was finally delivered to the hungry man. 

Since there were few people in the restaurant at the time, I cannot understand why the service was so slow. As such, our two tables offered mixed reviews given their table's experience: one above average; one poor.

Mixed reviews on our group experience

Our group of 13 stopped here for a local lunch after our day trip to the Royal Palace outside of Antannanarivo. The owner served a variety of Malagasy dishes but the favorite one for us was the Romazava with beef, onions, and spinach cooked in a tomato sauce. The owner had a couple playing local music on traditional instruments like a valiha, which looked like a zither. There was a small selection of locally produced crafts. The food and service were excellent.

This is a hotel and restaurant, but I was only here for lunch. The grounds are attractive, the restaurant is very pleasant, and the Malagasy food is good. I had a combination plate with stewed meat and vegetables, rice, and french fries. I believe that the dessert was a fruit plate.

There was a selection of goods for sale, and a local dancer and musician performed for the guests. The service was good.

I would recommend this place for lunch or dinner.
