Tentsuku Guest House - Hostel

Very friendly and kind owner helped me out a lot while I was in Tanabe preparing to go hiking the Kumano Kodo trail. Nice small town with a great beach turned out to be a good way to spend a few days off the beaten track in Japan.

Good value

I've traveled quite a lot, in many countries, and I can tell you : this is the crappiest hostel I have been to : 
- the 6 tatami mat rooms are tiny and you have to share them with other customers, but like you put your futon on the floor and there is 10 cm between you and them (not kidding). The sheets were not dirty but old, like they had yellow stains. And the futon are pretty thin.
- one shower for everybody. You have to share the space with the owner's (I guess) personal belongings : clothes, books, golf clubs etc, covered with dirt.
- the "living room" is as tiny as the rooms, you just don't wanna spend time there.
- there's just only one sink to brush your teeth and it's in the middle of the corridor.
- the kitchen, oh my god : sticky, no fridge, sponges have been used for years I think, they were kind of gray, there's a bad smell coming from the sink, like it has not been cleaned for months, and the gas stoves have turned black and sticky. Dangerous. I made myself some coffee and the sugar sticks there were so hard the sugar wouldn't come out! They must have been there for god knows how long.
And you have to pay 2500Y for that? This place should just be closed for its dangerous mix of old and dirty.

The crappiest youth hostel I have ever been to

I had a reservation Tentsuku Guest House on the 18/4/15. 

After falling asleep I woke up to be covered with bed bugs, and discovered the futon was completely infested with them. 

When I complained to the owner I was told:

1) I brought the bed bugs with me.
2) This is normal for Japan. 
3) The town is near the mountains and he (the owner) cannot control the insects. 
4) My English was very bad and that I know nothing of travelling, to paraphrase. 

I asked to cancel my booking for the next night and was told to get out and and "Bye bye!"

I suppose the location but since I am sitting  at the station waiting for the bus at 6:30AM this location is in fact more convenient and has less insects.
