We had an amazing stay here, if you are looking for a good ryokan on a budget in Kyoto, this is the place to stay! Very clean place, polite staff and  good location! Great experience! Highly recommend!

Amazing place

Very clean and Budget ryokan in kyoto, a Little bit small but confortable. Bathroom and showeroom really clean and big enough.
Hoever, they had a really ugly detail with me when after spending several nights there, they didn´t rent me a bicycle even leaving there all my stuffs there after checking-out. What did you think I was going to do with the bike meanwhile all my stuffs are at the hotel, c’mon?
Moreover, if you arrive after 21hours check in is not possible.

Very clean and Budget ryokan in kyoto, but rude and unpolite staff

An easy walk from the station, this traditional japanese ryokan is in the centre of town, in walking distance from many popular sights. Me and my partner stayed here for 6 nights and it proved the perfect practical accomodation for a low price. 
The staff are very friendly and speak good english. The rooms are small, however this was not an issue as we were here to explore the city. The beds were traditional futons and although they were not as comfortable as other places we had stayed, they were adequate. There is also green tea, hot water, toothbrushes and toothpaste, towels and a coin laundry available. The ryokan also provides bike hire for cheap, which was extremely useful for seeing the sights in kyoto and getting a work out. There is also a bar opposite, a public bath up the road and many food places to eat. 
The bathrooms are unisex which was not an issue for us but may be for some. There was also a very deep bathtub in the bathroom which the staff would fill daily. This was great for us to relax in after all the walking and cycling. 
In conclusion, great place to stay if you want traditional style accomodation.

Centre of town

Nice place, friendly staff and clean. 
You can walk from the station or take a bus. One-day ticket for bus is 500 yen, very god because every sightseeing-points are a bit off. 
Use the bus 205 or 17 from the guesthouse to the Gion-district. 
 

Mysigt och trevligt

•	Host/s: The desk staff we saw all spoke good English and were welcoming. We were shown around the inn and everything we needed to know about was explained to us.
•	Value for money: Not too badly priced for Kyoto. The room itself was well worth the price. Very pleasant looking and comfortable, traditional style Japanese room with tatami mats and sliding doors. The wooden corridors, paper screens and Japanese art works of the inn itself were very attractive. 
•	Cleanliness: The bedding was clean and comfortable (futon style, not western bed - to be folded away to make space in room). Room was spotlessly clean.  
•	Comfort: Room cosy enough although there were some drafts. It was cold (early March) but a heater was provided. Plenty of space when the futons were rolled away. Cushions provided to sit on. TV and kettle/cups/green tea provided. We were also provided with clean towels, disposable toothbrush and toothpaste.
•	Noise: The location was fairly quiet but one night, when it was very windy, the doors of our room rattled a bit which disturbed my sleep (but to be honest I am a very light sleeper anyway). We were also not fond of the local crows who liked to sit on the roof outside and caw in the early hours!
•	Facilities: Shared bathroom/toilet. Those who are accustomed to having private hotel toilet and bathroom facilities might find this uncomfortable. Special toilet slippers provided for use in toilet rooms. Bath area was clean and pleasant. Delightful ofuru bath (deep and long) which was kept at piping hot temperature. Absolute bliss after spending the day pounding around Kyoto on foot (you must shower off first before having a soak). Shampoo/conditioner/body wash provided. 
•	Location: The area is quiet, pleasant, with a very pretty stream (Takasagwa river) close by. The famous Kamo river is also a few minutes walk away. Well situated for exploring the rest of Kyoto via bus or train. It was a 20ish minute walk from Kyoto train station but a regular bus going from the station also stops nearby. There are a handful of cafes (shout out to Ask Me! Café Kyoto on the corner!) and restaurants near the inn but the nearby Kyoto Station area has a greater variety of restaurants, clothes shops, entertainment etc. There is also a bathhouse a few minutes walk away.
•	Overall: I would recommend this to both experienced backpackers and first time visitors to Japan who would like to experience a traditional Japanese style inn. Disabled people and people with very small children might struggle with the steep, wooden, (especially in the provided slippers) slippy stairs (I am not aware if there is disabled access but I might be mistaken). Highly recommended!

A lovely traditional style ryokan

The Ryokan was great, very well situated about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Kyoto and with easy reach of transportation.  The staff were very friendly and welcoming...couldnt do enough for you. Facilities were first class with plenty of showers and bathrooms
Only downside...the closest subway will not accept (or didnt when we were there) JR Rail passes...but this is certainly not the fault of the Ryokan's
