Kumamoto Green Hotel

This hotel has an excellent location, just five minutes away from the Kumamoto's downtown bus station and right off the downtown core's covered shopping arcade. Great value for its location, paid just under $CAD 240 for a three night stay. Not many frills for this hotel though, rooms are very clean, but quite basic and small with no view (my room was 2 m away from the side of another high rise). Bathrooms are very small as with most Japanese hotels, about the size of an airplane bathroom. However, water pressure and heat in the shower were very good, and the tub was very deep if you wanted to soak. The hotel also has a shampoo bar in the lobby so you can pump little containers of various soaps and shampoos to take back to your room. There are an infinite number of places to eat within metres of the hotel, and for a quick meal there are two convenience stores on either end of the street that the hotel is on. If you want to go sightseeing, Kumamoto Castle is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel, and you can see it from the hotel's hallway windows. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay downtown in Kumamoto, just make sure you pick a non-smoking room as they make it a point to differentiate.
