20 reviewsWe spent two nights at Asumi Onsen. It is not easy to get there (no bus, far to walk from the train station), so we arranged that the owner picked us up with his car from Fuji Station. Tip: Go to the tourist office and ask them to call him. We didn't manage to make the coin phones at the station work... The rooms are traditional ryokan with tatami mattresses and beddings that need to be taken out of the closet in the evening. There are two onsen-like bathrooms with big tubs that are free to use and very hot! We rented bikes to explore the area and went to the famous pagoda with view on Fujisan. It is best to go in the afternoon because there are fewer clouds around the summit. Also, we took the train to Fujikawaguchiko. The breakfast was included but not traditional Japanese - we got toast and yogurt which was a bit disappointing because this was the only ryokan we booked on our trip and we had hoped for breakfast with rice. The owners are very friendly and try to help wherever they can. They also offered to bring us to a restaurant when it was raining heavily one night.
