Holiday Inn Frankfurt - Alte Oper by IHG

We booked two rooms for my family of 4. Arriving early after a long, long flight we were thrilled that we could check in early into one of our rooms. We were also thrilled to learn that the other room was being upgraded. They were on the same floor when we got them both. Absolutely perfect. The reception staff were very friendly and professional, they didn’t make me feel bad about my lack of German, they slipped into English seamlessly. They advised me about the parking garage, as in another review it is a very tight turn to get in. The rooms were lovely, very well designed, very clean, comfortable. I would have been happy to spend more than one night there. We ate at the Francis restaurant, I have done a separate review, it was great. Breakfast was marvelous!! My son ate more breakfast than I can remember him doing in a long time. There were, cooked, continental and bakery options. The restaurant staff were also friendly and professional. . Now to the elephant in the room, the surrounding location is well, sketchy, we had to walk our kids through it in the day and it was really seedy and I felt lucky we didn’t see anything I left the need to drag them away from or worse still explain! It is not a nice area to wander through on holiday. I had read reviews and was expecting this, it may have been a little bit ‘more’ though! This is however not the fault of the hotel so I would not deduct anything for that. I would absolutely recommend this hotel, but maybe caution young families if they plan to wander around.
