Being Christmas Market week we expected it to be busy, but it was packed and the staff was at a loss as to what to do. We ordered 2 cups, of tea, that arrived without milk, after asking the waitress she then delivered it to the table in front of us, then to the table across from us, totally ignoring me. And the bill was £4 a cup, not the place to go for a quiet drink

Very busy and very expensive

You have to queue in order to get a table and we wanted to join a friend who had ordered a drink already. So got mad at us because we asked to sit together and kicked her out because she didn't have a 2nd drink! 
Next we asked a 2nd spoon to eat cake and they didn't want to give it to us!
Nunca mas!!!

Awful service

We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return. The coffee could be upgraded and the cakes could too, but the people more than made up for it. Friendly, helpful and patient, they gave us a very nice afternoon.

Great hospitality as they love dogs

The Schloss-Cafe in Monschau was a lovely find on a rainy morning. The cafe provides a wide range of snacks and meals with some great special offers of three course meals for only 13 Euro. The staff are friendly and helpful 

Great place for lunch

Very nice small hotel in the middle of the beautiful Monschau.our room nr 10 a big room with entree hall and tv and private bathroom .nice view from the window. Very friendly  people at the breakfast also delicious cappuccino

Not knowing the village and situation we selected this one! Good room, good breakfast, bad internet (which they confirmed). Location just perfect! For 1 night ok ! Bathroom a bit small but beds and pillows great

Okay for 1 night stay

Let's not beat around the bush here: this hotel is located in the middle of historic Monschau, which is a fantastic experience by itself. The building is fairy-tale looking from the outside and renovated from the inside. In theory, this could be a golden combination, one could argue.
However, our room was already on the small side, but the bathroom was just way, way too cramped. Couldn't even use the toilet properly because of that.
Another concern was the constant presence of an undefined sweet, musty smell.
The pillows were really uncomfortable for us: very large, but too thin.

As to be expected in such an old building, we could clearly hear every footstep of the neighbours above us. And that's quite an experience if your neighbours seem busy trying to break the record "how to walk the marathon on centuries old wooden floors".

Breakfast was ok, except the eggs were missing. Staff was friendly though and the breakfast room was very beautiful, old and stylish.

All in all, okay considering the room price of 80 euro's including breakfast and the fact that the pension is in the middle of popular touristic location.
Still, enough room for improvement.

Great location, but slightly overrated.

There was no staff on hand to answer the locked door but a woman came from the restaurant next door to open up for us. Apparently, there is only staff in the morning to serve breakfast. Room was extremely basic, very dated and poor furnishings. Bed was comfortable, though. Wifi did not work up in the room, you had to stand down near he front door and, even then, it kept disconnecting. We chose not to shower, since the bathroom looked very grungy, without even a bar of soap. The towels appeared to be very old and rough and just 1 each, with no face cloths or hand towels.
