This Hotel gave our luggage that we left with them for safe keeping until we returned from a hike . They gave the luggage to a 3rd party without checking and was not returned. The hotel is now ignoring our request to get this back and this is appalling given the loss we are now incurring. Please do not book this hotel as they do not care about the customer.

We stayed at the Hotel Le Commerce on the 28th August and the 6th September 2023. We were hiking in the Vanoise Alps and this hotel stay was at the start and end of the hiking trip. There were three of us. Two of us left bags with spare clothes for safe-keeping, which we would collect when the hiking trip was over. We have ben hiking for many years and this was something we always do.

When we returned we found out that our bags were no longer at the hotel. We were informed that the bags were taken by an Italian Railway Company, by accident, following a rockfall onto the railway line close to Modane.

We have been waiting for well over 2 months to receive the bags from the hotel. I have suggested a number of times that the bags be posted directly to me. However, the hotel have not responded to my request and are ignoring us. The management are clearly disreputable.

At this stage, we find it difficult to believe that the bags were actually taken by this Italian Railway Company. We were never shown any confirmation of this. All we can conclude is that the hotel either allowed the bags to be stolen or they were taken by somebody either working/staying in the hotel.

The bottom line is that if you are planning to hike next year in this area, you should not stay in this hotel. Your possessions are not safe there.

A simple, serviceable hotel across the street from the Modane train station. Lively bar, solid breakfast. Don't be looking for creature comforts! Rooms in back overlook a roaring brook and the mountains. Rooms in front face the street and train station. We stayed here before launching our hiking trip the following morning.

This is an unpretentious hotel with an excellent manager . We had the most expensive room which was comfortable and quiet and would certainly visit again. Beware Sunday evenings thigh. The hotel has no restaurant and the restaurants in Modane are mostly closed .

A good place to overnight

We had a very positiv experience with this hotel from first message to we leave, all was great, rom looks new and all works well
 will recomand it
There is no  special parking for motorbike, but we parked close to entrance and no problem 

Motorcycle trip 2019

We stayed a night with my husband and daughter (5 years old) in a family suite (1 double bed and 2 single beds). The room was spacious, modern and comfortable. The hotel is located just in front of the train station. The personnel is really nice, welcoming and friendly. I particularly recommend the morning coffee, which has a special taste bringing back memories from Italy. If we come to Modane again we'll definitely stay at the same hotel !!!

Practical and comfortable

Quiet, clean, perfect location, good value - what more could you ask for? It was a perfect short stay during a rainstorm. Ask for a room in the back as it is cooler and quieter. Have a meal at Pulcinella Pizza!

Quiet, clean, perfect location, good value

The hotel is right in the middle of Modane opposite the train station on a busy noisy road. Its an older building but well maintained and spotlessly clean.  The family who run the hotel are really lovely - very friendly and helpful.  They don't speak a lot of English so brush up on your French before you go.  The breakfast is continental, plentiful and very fresh and the breakfast room is overlooking the river which runs past the back of the hotel so a lovely setting on a hot summer day.  The hotel doesn't have air conditioning and during our stay is was 36 degrees outside so it was unfortunately like an oven in our room which was on the first floor overlooking the road.  The room was small and basic but had a comfortable bed and was very clean.  The bathrooms have been renovated and we had a great shower in ours.

Nice Family Run Hotel

The place is situated less than 100 meters from the train station. The staff is helpful (don't speak much of English). 

We spent 70 euro per night for a double room. The room is basic containing a bed, chairs, a table and a modern bathroom. The place were quiet and easy to sleep.

The breakfast cost 9 euro / person. It includes coffee, bread, pastry, yogurt, cereals and fruits.
