The Golfe is a gem of a hotel in the chic and pretty coastal town of Cassis. It's location is superb, facing the bustling bay and port with it's views of fishing vessels, boats and striking yachts. Our room was on the second floor and sadly, despite hoping against hope we might have our request for an upgrade to a sea-view room fulfilled (as we had read the views from the pretty balconies were magnificent), this was not possible and we were given a room along the side of the building. It was a basic room designed for mobility impaired customers and therefore quite spacious, which worked for us as this was the last stop on a long tour of the Riviera/Region-Sud so we had all of our suitcases and paraphernalia with us and certainly needed the space, being a family of four. The bathroom was large but one thing to note: it did not have a barrier between the shower and other facilities as such, which took some getting used to.

Our reception host, Valerie, who checked us in and was on reception during our stay was absolutely exceptional: she was welcoming, friendly, helpful in every way. For example, we asked for any spare glasses for a bottle of wine we had with us - any would do, but she came back with proper wine glasses from the restaurant! - she was amenable in letting us leave our luggage temporarily and lent us beach equipment for our last day. I must commend her standard of efficient service, what a lovely lady.

We did not take advantage of the hotel breakfast buffet offer, we opted instead to have breakfast at one of the marina cafe's but judging by the prices paid, I would say the Golfe's offer for breakfast is commensurable and a good one. Please note there is some limited parking at the side/rear of the hotel, we parked in the local multi-storey up the hill and it was a steep incline coming down to the port location, just to warn those who may find this problematic. Some hotels deserve a little more than their 'official' rating, and I would say overall the Golfe is one of these.

What a Le Golfe gem

What a nasty little room we were given. It was overlooking the harbour and had a tiny balcony but that’s where the positives end! We could only book a standard sea view for that night but I never expected it to be so standard for that price! A small double bed wedged against the wall and two useless old pieces of furniture in to make it look even smaller! The wardrobe obscured the light and possible view. We tried to wait for a cancellation to a superior room that we would have paid for but not possible so after paying full amount we checked out and into a lovely Best Western spa hotel near the market place. Different worlds and not much difference in price. Do not waste your money here! Horrible!

Waste of money!

We were expecting a simple affordable hotel. What we got was exactly that AND amazing port views overlooking the harbour.  Super friendly staff in reception where nothing was too much trouble.  Yes the rooms are small, just as we expected, but they were very comfortable and spotlessly clean, and without a doubt the little balcony overlooking the port, really was the cherry on the cake.  Easy to walk everywhere from here and of course, the area is stuffed full of restaurants and cafes, from simple snacks to Michelin standard.  Just great value!

Super hotel and a great port

A well tucked in hotel  overlooking the Cassis harbour..ever helpful and smiling staff ensures that your stay is superlative. There are plethora of restaurants around the Cassis harbour and it's in house restaurant dishes out the best gourmet food. Ohh before I forget, kindly look out for ocean view rooms ( if possible on the higher floor) ... it's a view to a kill...we had a great time 

Spellbound 

Simple, cute, affordable and in a beautiful position!  My teenage daughter and I stayed here for a one night stay to visit the calanques, and wanted something affordable and comfortable which is exactly what we got.  However, we also got amazing, helpful staff and beautiful views over the marina.  The balcony allowed us to take in the night life of Cassis.  The bed was comfortable and big enough for us to share.  the bathroom was small but functional.  We were able to walk everywhere from here.  There is no lift, so have to carry luggage upstairs - which was fine for us, but FYI for others.  The staff allowed us to store our luggage prior to check in and were super helpful in trying to find us transport in the early morning back to the train station.  Perfect for what we wanted.  Would stay again.

Cute, affordable, perfect location

Fantastic location, excellent service, amazing value. What a great place to stay with lovely views over the harbour. The service from the ladies in reception was amazing, they were extremely helpful. This hotel deserves to have a higher rating!

Best location in Cassis.

We had a sea view room on the top floor with a balcony.  The room is simple but quite efficient despite the small size.  Air conditioning worked well.  The lady at the front desk was very helpful.  The staff in the night shift don't speak as much English so be prepared if you have a late arrival.  The cafe is surprisingly good.  The buffet breakfast includes made-to-order eggs.  That and the view is well worth the price.  Lunch was really good too.  They don't open for dinner which means no late night noise from the cafe.  The location is furthest down the port but closest to hiking to the Calanques.  We feel like we could not have stayed at a better place in Cassis.

Good location, nice views and a cafe that exceeds expectations

My husband and I stayed here 2 nights and had a wonderful view of the port. The room was small but comfortable and we didn’t have any problem with noise. The front desk staff was very helpful and we would recommend this hotel and Cassis in general when in southern France. Perfect for strolling around the port and town and getting a drink and bite to eat while people watching and enjoying the beautiful views. it’s a nice base for hiking the Calanques also.

Beautiful view of port from balcony room

What a great location - view a little impeded having been put in the room right at the end overlooking another building (the only room on this level with that obstruction and very disappointing). The staff here were very friendly and helpful. 

Unfortunantly that is where the good bits end.  The room was incredibly noisy as there was a pump or something going off evey couple of minutes.  Overnight too, though that was about every 30 minutes, so just as you get to sleet, you are woken.  Barely got a wink of sleep.  (Note: when we reaised this with the front desk - they tried to ascertina what the noise was and were not able to and when we let them know about not getting any sleep, they did comp the breakfast - so got some coffee!!)

Very basic room and very noisy - didn't sleep a wink

The hotel itself is pleasant enough, basic and simple, probably a 2* anywhere else but the position really makes it. Our room had the most fantastic views over the harbour and you stroll out of the front door onto the water's edge, with it's plethora of restaurants. Probably less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. I would happily stay here again. The staff were also very pleasant and helpful, contrary to the indications given in some other reviews.
