Raul and his wife, Paola are very lovely.  Paola’s services is second to none.  We enjoyed her meals and she was always cheerful.  The hotel is beautiful with loads of characters.  They also have cattle and you are welcome to visit their cow milking and their calves.  
The only complaint that i have is hot water was not that hot.  The path to the hotel could be slippery if it rained.  They also have a nice trail nicely marked.  I would recommend this hotel.  You cannot ask for better services.

Beautiful hotel with great services and meals

We stayed here for 3 nights, with a group of 10 and it felt like home.  The hacienda is a perfect getaway and very close to lots of good runs and hikes.  The staff and food was great.  They showed us the dairy production and went bird watching as well which was a great bonus.  The rooms are very beautiful and inviting with amazing views, including a view of Cotopaxi.   Highly recommend staying here.

This is a fantastic place to stay. Its elevated views of the Mountains are breathtaking. The hotel is superb, large rooms, big open fire and beatiful gardens. The camping area now has new Toilets, showers and Electricity. The track to the hotel is long but we managed it easily in our 8m x 3.5m rig. Check at the lower gate that the there is no one coming down first as passing areas are few.The Owner Raul, could not have been more welcoming or accomodating. Fantastic host. If you are looking to stop in this area then I would choose here without hesitation. Ideal for group meetings for overlanders

Long weekend Motorcycle Club Event

There are many things that make Sierra Alisos special, but as we've been telling friends and family about our trip, the thing that stands out the most is owner/host Raul and his staff.   We felt as if we were staying in a home with friends instead of as a paying guest at an inn!

They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, delicious, and interesting:  from the meals prepared with fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden (even for the cups of tea), the nice cozy fires every day, the great insights and color Raul provides from his knowledge of the history and culture of the area and Ecuador generally, to the above and beyond of Raul accompanying us for a day's outing to Quilotoa Lake and the beautiful Andean Highlands.  

Our family had a great time and we highly recommend Sierra Alisos!

Lovely inn with outstanding host, great food, beautiful surroundings

Upon arrival, we were immediately impressed with the exterior of the thoughtfully designed lodge and details throughout the main seating area. 
Raul, the owner met us and showed us to our warm and inviting room in which he had already prepared the wood-burning stove, which was much appreciated.
We were also grateful when Raul offered us hot Guayusa tea which helped with the altitude sickness we were both experiencing, having just arrived in Quito. 
Our superb meals (dinner and breakfast) were true 'farm-to-table' and were prepared using local ingredients directly from the hacienda and surrounding farms. These were easily amongst the best meals we had in our 13 day visit to Ecuador. Raul's staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.
Raul, was personable and we enjoyed his conversation and company, including the history he provided of the building and his family.
In short, we had a wonderful, but brief stay, and regret that we didn't stay longer to enjoy  exploring the grounds and hiking trails of the hacienda in this beautiful setting with amazing views of the surrounding Andes highlands.

A 4x4 or vehicle with good suspension would be recommended for driving up the unpaved road that leads to the property (going in a regular airport taxi was a little challenging especially in the dark).

I had originally been in Sierra Alisos for lunch some time back and was waiting for a good opportunity to go and spend a weekend there.  Back in January I finally did so with my girlfriend.

The location is wonderful.  You are close to Quito (about a 40 minute drive from the center depending on traffic) and yet you are isolated from all its noise, traffic, pollution and chaos.  You get to breathe fresh mountain air and be in contact with nature while being in a relaxing, comfortable, cozy, and familiar environment.

The main building is a comfortable sized house built in the countryside's traditional architecture.  The rooms are well equipped: beds are comfortable, you have private bathrooms with hot water, and you have a fireplace in every room.  The main lounge is nice and cozy, as well as its dining room.

For those who want to be connected, there is free Wi-Fi in all the building.  There are no TVs, which is good if you want to be disconnected.

The food is delicious and you get plenty of it.  Each dish contains a local element or decoration, all made in their own kitchen.  Sierra Alisos also produces its own "ají" or spicy condiment called "ahuma ahuma".

The surrounding forests are great for a guided walk.  You get to see many different species from the flora and fauna of the Ecuadorian highlands, and you get to see the "Aliso" tree (Alnus glutinosa).  It is very interesting to walk through although the paths may be a bit challenging fore some.  It is very rewarding to take that walk.

The view from Sierra Alisos is fantastic as you can see many of the surrounding volcanos on a clear day (Cotopaxi, Pasochoa, Antisana).

Pros:  Great price, very relaxing, very beautiful, wonderful service, great food, beautiful place.
Cons: You need a car to get there, preferably one with a good ground clearance. Otherwise it's quite a walk from the main roads.

If you're in Quito and want to get away somewhere near, Sierra Alisos is a fantastic option.  I recommend it for both locals and foreigners who want to go somewhere off the beaten path.

Amazing, relaxing, yet very close to Quito.

When I make it to Ecuador again, Sierra Alisos will be part of my trip. I appreciated the combination of the beautiful space and the gracious proprieters/staff. Both are important to me.  The grounds are green and hilly and sprinkled with dairy cows and beautiful flowers.  Walking into the main adobe building, you're bathed in warm light and ambience and welcoming music. The space is clean, well-appointed and beautifully designed, including the sleeping rooms (some of which offer contained fireplaces and hot tubs). Raúl, the proprietor, and staffers Mario and Patricia, took such great care of my group mates and me (there were 16 of us). We had various and sundry requests, and this team of 3 made it all happen: In the morning, per our request, Raúl graciously sat with us over coffee to share the history of the place; Mario took some of us on a walking tour; and Patricia prepared meals for the meat-eaters, vegans and vegetarians among us. Be flexible with the availability of hot water for showers and you'll be fine.  Six of us in my group got to enjoy ayurvedic massages at a reasonable rate (relative to the cost of living in USA) from a therapist who came to the property just for us! Sierra Alisos is wonderfully romantic, a great place to take personal retreat and a perfect spot for tight-knit groups. Thank you, Raúl, for your warmth, love of beauty and professionalism.

The punchline: I can't wait to return.

Driving down a long, long dirt road when we reached the entrance to this magnificent property I was immediately smitten.
Gorgeous is the only way to describe the house, the grounds and the gardens
AND I did not even get to explore the forest.  YES, a private forest.
The rooms are magnificent and I was not surprised to learn the owner is an architect.

Tea upon arrival and the first hot bath I had since entering the rainforest.  

Then an incredible meal prepared with fresh vegetables from the garden.
AND a view of the volcano.

A wood brining stove in our room, a lovely sitting area.
Old world charm, modern environmental consciousness and a charming gracious host.

A TREASURE!!!!

My only regret is that I did not get to spend more time at this exquisite jewel.
